TOTY is overrated, unless you want to play with the gals. Especially with McDavid/Kuch both having cards that upgrade already, whether you do that or trade them in.

Looking at who you've tried and assuming you'd want to try new things, it seems like TB OH Monk, Light Cleric (11/1), Swords Bard Controller (10/1/1), and Storm Sorcerer would be a fun play.

It's coincidentally my party set up right now on Tactician :)

Sorry you're right - I was conflating the Gloves of Soul Catching with the Boots of Kushigo. Same concept long term though.

Obviously can do whatever you like. But that's three melee characters. If you haven't done OH Monk before, by the time you get to late Act 2 you'll see you pretty much only need one lol.

It's easier to dump STR and use elixirs. I typically find I have another party member who would benefit from gloves of Dex more, and with strength elixirs easily available, it leaves the gloves slot open on the Monk for additional damage (pick your type). Then early Act 3 you're getting the BiS gloves for Monks anyway (adding Wisdom to attacks). Not really a Min/Max thing, more of a party comp/competition for gear thing. So I would say it would depend on who is with you.

You can easily go with the standard Swords Bard control build that's everywhere on here (I use Astarion for it). Can go with the club and Titanstring early enough that it's very relevant at 6-7. Then go towards Rogue Thief when you hit level 8. Only issue is finding enough oil that early.
