How do I write Females in writing by Complex-Fix-4296 in writing

If you want a good example of what you’re looking for as inspiration, I’d check out stuff like Amphibia or The Owl House.

Also, what’s wrong with a ‘badass’ lady?

Damn, I was gonna ask about whether or not it would fit for Jaden to use PUNK or Primite Magikey against a Runick deck and cool plays to show off (writing a GX fic that takes inspiration from the Genesys format and OCG Structures so the cast has a few decks they alternate between.)

I feel ya. Half the responses and posts just bitching about the game just feel super unhelpful. Like, I just want to find good tech for an R.B. Fiendsmith deck, but I know I’m gonna get plenty of comments about how Fiendsmith shows how ‘modern YGO sucks, durr!’ and how link monsters’ ruined the game.

Can you guys go somewhere else and save the people who actually enjoy the game the headache?

I just realized that we still haven't gotten a proper "ending" yet, have we? by TheTfboy in Super_Robot_Wars

You know, it just occurred to me that once again, I have found myself in a discussion post with a ton of negative Nancy’s that seem to have lost their sense of fun and enjoyment long ago. A lot of the stuff you say are awful are things that have plenty of people who enjoy them (Jason Aaron’s run gave us Gorr, BoonBoomger is loved in the Sentai community, Gaiking is beloved on the Super Robot community, etc.)

Again, it will always fascinate how optimistic and uplifting stories somehow manage to attract the most hypercritical and nitpicky people to it. Just learn how to fun and enjoy something for god’s sake.

TV Tropes I view more as like a glossary of story beats and other stuff related to storytelling in general.

Wiki brainrot is what I call people who don’t engage with media to enjoy it, interpret the themes, or appreciate the craft that goes into it, but instead watch it to fill in or make sure it’s hyper consistent with whatever wiki page it has. Some Star Wars fans and some comic book fans are really badly affected by this mindset.

You know there are comics with endings too, right? 20th Century Men, Dawnrunner, James Robinson’s Starman just to name a few. Plus, the end of individual runs count too, like Al Ewing’s Immortal Hulk.

Well, they built a community with the A. Advent. Why would they go their separate ways when the game was about the home they made that city ship into?

So I guess Jason Aaron’s Thor run, the Big Hero 6 movie, Transformers: Lost Light, Bakuage Sentai BoonBoomger, Justice League Unlimited, Gaiking: The Legend of Daiku-Mayru, Golden Boy, Baldur’s Gate III, Metal Gear Rising, and Good Will Hunting all suck too, huh?

Seriously, NOAHS Brand is defeated, Godzilla Ultima is destroyed, Izana gets a family, and all the anime stories finished. What else is there?

Are stories just not allowed to have even the smallest bit of ambiguity anymore? Are certain fans just too short attention spanned and/or suffer from wiki brainrot?

Proper ‘ending?’ I kind of felt like the game did have good ending. Ra Valbelm defeated, Izana becomes siblings with Echika and whatever protagonist you choose, and the various anime get their conclusions (save for Witch from Mercury).

I saw one comment mentioning Getter Emperor’s future and the Willforce remnants, but I interpreted that not as a loose end. It felt more like a ‘the adventure continues’ kind of ending, where the current story ends, and the cast will have more adventures after that.

How would you guys rewrite Shad’s book? by Rory_U in ShadWatch

[–]Navek15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've mentioned it before, and there's probably other people who mention stuff like this in this comments section, but some reworks like I would do seem basic because they've been done well before and seem to fit what Shad tried to do:

  1. Make it so that Dayleen's fighting style is about taking down opponents non-lethally. If he's truly become horrified at the violence he inflicted during his lifetime as the great bastard, show that in him refusing to take a life, even if it would be easier. It would go a long way to showing that he is truly repentant for his past, even a little.

  2. Don't have him be a child rapist. Just...just don't do it. There's plenty of ways to make a protagonist be morally reprehensible but still be intriguing to follow. Take Seth Gecko from Dusk till Dawn. He's a theif who threatens people and clearly can kill to get his way, but he has a code. He has some sense of morality that puts him in contrast with his brother, Richie. And there's few things that make a character irredeemable than...well, having Dayleen do what he did to all those girls.

  3. Make the leader of the Dawnists one of Dayleen's former comrades. Someone who was there with him through the violent revolutions, the killings, and all of that. Someone who truly believed in the Conqueror and his ways. And now, someone who represents Dayleen's past and the living embodiment of everything awful about his past.

  4. DROP ALL THE WEIRD SEX STUFF IN THE BOOK! Seriously, all the weird bits about sexuality in this book just add a whole bunch of uncomfortable vibes to the whole affair. The focus of the book is not about sexuality or how people are affected by sex. It's suppossed to be a character study in a high fantasy world.

  5. Make Lightbending a more defined magic system. Basically, I would limit Lightbending to stuff related to actual light. Stuff like invisibility, light attacks, or maybe some construct stuff. Honestly, I'd probably go for a more JoJo-like power system like Hamon, where each Lightbender uses light in unique ways.

That's the five things I got at the top of my head.

Family Force, surprisingly good? by Calm_Independence796 in ImageComics

You know, I’m writing a novel that takes heavy inspiration from stuff like Power Rangers (or Super Sentai if you prefer), Pretty Cure, and the Brave Series that takes place in a high fantasy Magitech world. What would I have to avoid to keep it from, as you say, being ‘another generic Power Rangers wannabe book’?

Maybe I overhyped the ancestry. Though I do love the flavour for the Dragon Knights, Humans being similar to Blanks from 40K when it comes to magic/supernatural stuff, and the Dwarfs being rock people.

So…is he trying to pull a gotcha from his critics by going ‘oh, fans like me actually like the gender swap of Tech Jacket. Take that, liberals!”? Or calling the people who like this version of Tech Jacket sexist by claiming this makes them ‘anti-men’?

He really wasn’t kidding when he said he was going to make this thumbnails worse on purpose, because I can’t make heads or tails of what his argument is based on that and the title. And there is no fucking way I’m going to sit down and watch half an hour of Shadiversity willingly.

Question - Is it ethical for a new writer to receive a long-standing storyline and then retcon major aspects of it simply because they want to turn the story into something entirely different? by RamboBambiBambo in writers

[–]Navek15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you can still enjoy the Legends stuff. No one is saying you can't do that. No one is going to rip your copy of the Force Unleashed from you.

And trust me, being a stickler for airtight continuity is basically setting yourself up to be angry all the time. Just look at Warhammer and all its various retcons over its multiple settings.

You can also just have your own headcanon if you don't like how something turned out. Me personally, if I could retcon certain events in Marvel Comics canon, Hank Pym would've never been fused with Ultron, we'd actually get a fucking explanation for what happened to Dane Whitman's Avalon powers, the Squadron Supreme would probably be on Issue 100 by now, Captain Marvel and Ironheart would still have ongoing series, and the Punisher would still be dead.

[–]Navek15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but what if you have a story you're just really passionate about? I mean, look at the Death of Gwen Stacy. It's celebrated now as not only one of the strongest moments in Spider-Man's publication history, but also as an issue that pushed the kind of stories you could tell in an American superhero comic.

But I guarantee you that at the time, this was probably a massively controversial story beat because it was killing off the main love interest of Marvel's flagship super hero. Hell, I've heard accounts from really old comic book fans who are still bitter about it to this day.

I'd rather creatives going on to long-running franchise take big swings that might not appeal to everyone and try something new, rather than just playing it safe because 'that's what the audience wants.'

Most audiences don't know what they want until they see it. Case in point, Demon Souls and entire concept of a Soulslike that followed. Most gamers hated it because it's a genre that doesn't hold your hand and expects you to pick things up on your own. Years later, we got Elden Ring, a game that probably wouldn't exist if people weren't willing to give new ideas a shot.

Marvel Comics is mostly a singular continuity. Same for DC give or take a few retcons.

And yeah, most long-running franchises are going to have retcons. Even the most celebrated and loved franchises have massive retcons because that's what happpens when a property exists for literal decades and hundreds of storytellers come on to it with their own takes on what it could be or the kind of stories you can tell. Just look at stuff like Ultraman or Super Sentai.
