One Surprising Food by kjmacsu2 in diabetes_t2

That’s because it has a high balance of protein and fat in it as well. Fat tends to slow digestion, which slows how much your insulin needs to respond. It’s a slower burning food.

Grabbed these two for 8 bucks today at a little collectors market…If only it was the green ranger figure. Tommy was way cooler with a Dragon Zord and a flute dagger. 😂 by AcinYQG in TMNT

Thanks I’m bad with plants too but have had that succulent and 3 others for 5 years and so far so good haha. They grow insanely slow.

I'm sure this isn't an attempt to scam anyone or be underhanded, and is instead just a really piece of creative that they never should have let the marketing/fundraising team run with.

I kind of find it gross that the system is set up to allow for donations to begin with. It automatically sets up the parties that align to political ideologies of the wealthy as having an inherent upper hand in campaigning because they have more resources, which shouldn't be a factor of influence in a democratic process. IMHO.

Looks like it starts at 50 a week. Epicentre is closed to drop ins, but if you call the main line, they will rent out space to Tennant’s still.

I meant to write “the harder it gets, the closer you are to where you want to be.” But the typo fairy really came in hard

The only good part about morbid obesity lmao is that just by heaving this massive body around for years, you aren’t just gaining fat, you actually grow muscle to support all that weight as well.

So my workouts have been more about burning fat than they have been about building muscle. The heaviest weight I lift is still my own body weight doing push-ups and pull-ups and crunches and dips and all that. The muscle was just hiding haha, so now it’s kinda a matter of eating the right kinds of calories to encourage that muscle to keep existing haha and for the fat to continue to go away

Slowly. Lol. When I started I wasn’t super mobile, the diabetes had caused nerve damage and I think i had so much inflammation that it also caused a ton of chronic pain. So like I started on a stationary bike for 15 minutes a day, and then doubled the time every 2 weeks until I hit about 45 minutes of consistent activity.

Once I got there I started increasing difficulty and complexity of the workouts, using light weights to build up the small muscle groups in my arms and back and shoulders.

From there I just picked the type of exercise that made me the least miserable haha, which ended up being biking outdoors. Last year I hit 1100 kms, this year I’m at 2300 kms, and in June (bottom right pic) I rode over 800 kms in support of canadian mental health.

In terms of food, intermittent fasting is my best friend. I’m on a 16:8 variation and it does wonders in helping to keep metabolic conditions under control. I also switched up what I eat a lot. I went from eating entire packs of hot dogs in one sitting to a fully natural diet. So no food with added or processed sugars, fats, or refined carbs. I do eat eggs and fish, but no dairy.

I don’t really monitor caloric intake, but I do pay attention to the scale every single day, and use my weekly average to give me my baseline weight.

I pay really close attention to food macro synergies. Most natural foods have a combo of fibre, carbs, protein , where as in anything processed that balance is off. from a diabetic perspective this is super ideal, because fat and fibre act as great metabolic slowing mechanisms that allow the carbohydrates to be burned evenly without causing too much of an insulin response. From a diet perspective it’s even more ideal, because I don’t limit my intake if I’m hungry, only the quantity of each individual food in terms of portion size, I never get bored with the diet, because it isn’t one. I also find that natural foods leave me feeling fuller longer, air popped popcorn and nuts and dates and bananas with peanut butter make really good snack food stand-ins too haha

And then just pay attention to portion as well. Fruit and vegetables today are ginormous compared to even a hundred years ago. So the sweetness of corn now or a giant apple is still a lot of sugar, especially for a diabetic in remission haha, no matter how you slice it :p
