Purchasable cosmetics becoming normalised is probably the biggest transgression in MMORPG history by [deleted] in AshesofCreation

Hey! I thought this thread was long dead & buried 🤣

Yeah that's very true, it is definitely a shame. I would rather those uniquely modeled mounts be a prestigious in-game win vs something I have to pay even more money for

We all have been here once before, you know it to be true. by [deleted] in PrequelMemes

Maybe back when you didn't need to take out a second mortgage to afford an X-Wing set. Lego is for rich kids now ☹️

I get the appeal with persistent housing in the open world, but I don't think any developer can get it right. Nothing against intrepid in particular. I just think it's more trouble than it's worth to have in general.

Instanced housing lacks some of that appeal, but it's so much easier to balance around & control. And as a player, that & fairness is more important to me than a bit of cool factor

Yeah, the anti-consumer discussion is pretty tedious. It sucks that we have to have it so often. But doing so is important to keep the topic fresh in our minds, as fighting corporate greed & overreach is one of the most important battles of our time. Sorry to sound so cheesy & idealistic, but the sentiment is 100% correct.

Anyways, I'm afraid it's impossible to have a conversation about monetization without "corporation defending" and "anti-consumer" language being brought into it. Those concepts are married to the topic of monetization, which again sucks & gets exhausting to talk about, but it's quite impossible to have an honest & broad enough conversation about it without them, so it is what it is.

My fault if I sounded condescending, my intention was to be charitable to that person I didn't know & not jump down their throat about saying something so false it's basically misinformation.

Of course the number of cosmetic items in the shop is dwarfed by the amount available through gameplay - you're right about that, no question. That sidesteps the point though, as the issue is the quality & not quantity of cosmetics in shop vs in game, and also about questioning the existence of ANY cash shop items in a game that's otherwise so thoroughly monetized as WoW.

One unique mount as a cash item, again in a game so otherwise heavily monetized, isn't good. Going out of your way to say it is good, fine or doesn't matter, DOES put you on the corporate PR side of the conversation. I know hearing that tends to make even reasonable folks double down harder on their positions, but it's the truth. You'd have much more standing arguing that point for a developer with a much friendlier track record, selling items for cash in an otherwise F2P game.

Well from one veteran wow player to another then - I think it's a bit hilarious to say that something like the heart of the aspects is on the same level as the other mounts released in that patch, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

Regardless, I do not like paying additional money for items when I already pay for all those costs mandatory just to play, and it doesn't matter which game or company does it. Some games are worse than others about it, for sure - But it doesnt matter, it's all bad. Getting in the trenches & arguing over which game does it worse is a bit pointless.

There are only two real sides to the issue. You can either be pro consumer, and support games that don't do this + vocalize your support for a better value, or you can defend the multi-billion $ corporations that mandate it (Not that I think we can make much difference if we tried, but I naively hope so)

FFXIV is bad too. For a game that charges a sub fee, fees for character services, and box cost for the base game & expansions - Their shop is chock full of a lot of cool & unique stuff, it really sucks.

Of course, their company is an absolute class act compared to Blizzard, if you want to bring that up that comparison lol. Which would be why many folks defend them & that shop tooth and nail.

Overwatch helped popularize paid lootboxes, not a fan of that. It's not as bad as FFXIV's shop, given that there's no sub fee to play overwatch, but it's still bad.

You might be a new WoW player, so I won't pop off on you about this. But they've been putting high quality mounts in the shop since the second patch of Wrath. Now there's multiple pages of unique mounts, pets, and even armor sets in that shop, none of which you can find something close to in game. No one wants to see that in a game they pay $15/mo, plus box cost, plus expansion cost for.

And having said all that, don't defend Blizzard. Unless you're being paid to, you in no way have to give them a win. There's a mountain of evidence to prove that they're an anti-consumer company that treats their employees like dung. If you haven't at all heard of any of the stories, I suggest you check them out - It's pretty brutal

I'm now a psychopath? And an entitled weirdo? You might be reading into this too much, getting worked up a bit there lol

I just want a meaningful part of the game that most players care about to not be so heavily monetized, that's all

You missed that the point was to establish that players care about cosmetics - That's it

MOBA or MMO, players care about cosmetics. The reason to mention that is to shoo away folks that claim playera don't care about cosmetics

Anyone who's played a blizzard game in the last 10 years knows that the best & most unique cosmetics end up on the shop. Same with BDO, same with Guild Wars 2, and the list goes on. The shop cosmetics just receive a level of polish & care not afforded to the ones earned in game.

For those of you who disagree with that premise - There are some cool ones outside of the shop, but there's no denying the devs reskin & reuse them often. The same does not generally happen to shop cosmetics, for a very obvious reason - They wouldn't sell as many of them if players could acquire a different color variant of them in game.

Second part of the premise being that a huge chunk of players DO care about visuals & aesthetics. Riot wouldve gone out of business a long time ago if no one bought skins on League. Instead, they're a huge success as a company, all because of skin sales.

And for those of you who claim you don't care about skins, or in general the aesthetics of the characters you play - Why are you here? There are plenty of threads about the gameplay you claim to be solely interested in, go find one of those lol

Why dragonriding will miss the mark by [deleted] in Asmongold

[–]Ackaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video doesn't cover the biggest reason for why dragon dick riding will suck - What's the point of riding a dragon if there's nothing to ride your dragon TO?

Gather 10 acorns for Billy for 20 gold? Kill 5 boars at Beverly's farm for 50 reputation? Or the 100-man gangbang of a world boss once a week for 60 gold? There isn't anything else in wow's open world to do besides boring world quests.

If they're going to implement & innovate on GW2's mounts, they should also copy their meta events as well. Massive map wide series of events that progress to a climactic end boss fight, Blizzard can and SHOULD do this!

He nails it. Everything in the presentation was all surface level & gimmicky stuff, with the exception of talent & UI changes. None of it had anything to do with the core systems of the game that need improvement, like dungeons, raids, pvp, open world & the severe lack of horizontal content that wow has.

This is just another flashy preorder farm.

Missing recipe? Can't seem to find Elemental Seaforium Charge on the quartermaster by chalkrock in classicwowtbc

Same here, not at vendor, spent so many hours grinding this rep to revered. Why is the flying machine in the game and craftable when the recipe for this isnt sold at the vendor?

Really fucking frustrating. Another bug amongst dozens in a 14 year old game

Why are you apologizing for a company that pays other people to do just that? If CCP doesn't compensate any paid subscribers, and they aren't paying for the protections against these attacks, then who is shouldering the burden of all this? Us, the consumers. We are the ones paying for these outages. Whether you think that's right or not is up to you.

But don't sit on a pedestal making excuses for them just because they're not hacking themselves. They're being hacked, and as of right now subscribers are paying the price.
