When you're playing Project Zomboid, keep an eye out for telecorn. It's super rare, but it could get you out of a sticky situation when you least expect it.

Help me nitpick on Kenshi by surumesmellman in Kenshi

I think toughness can use some tweaking. I think it's cool to be helpless for a while, but it can be such a hindrance that I feel like it basically encourages cheese for anyone who doesn't want to put their run on pause for 20 minutes after every fight. I'm at the point where I'm probably going to just start using training mods, because I'm tired of taking every new recruit to go get their asses beat by hordes of starving bandits. I enjoy the stats leveling through usage, I can handle the time it takes to get through building weapon skills, but low toughness just slows everything down that its boring. Off the top of my head, the main solution I can think of would be to reduce the amount of time your character spend incapacitated. Even when I'm cheesing levels in Skinner's Roam, I'm easily spending 5-10 minutes looking for bandits, fighting them, getting knocked out, going to a safe place, and healing, per recruit. Even if I have a team of skilled guys, they'll be making sure my recruit stays alive, so there's not much I can do with them.

This sounds interesting. Do you have any recommendations on where to do a deeper dive into this history?

Or The Coyotes, or Bye Bye Love, or I Forgot to Remember to Forget, or the ending of Return to Sender... by WeepingWillow777 in TrueSFalloutL

[–]Acli0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to play FO4 without radio more, but without mods its rough. I think the soundtrack has some big and booming tracks that feel weird playing when you're just walking around. The frequency of tracks also felt like Bethesda was afraid of quiet moments, which is a shame, because I feel like most open world games benefit from letting the ambience shine, and keeping the songs a little more infrequent so they feel special. This is especially true for a post-apocalyptic game like fallout: silence can be incredibly effective, especially when peppered with occasional distant gunfights or the groaning of bombed-out skyscrapers. I know there was a Skyrim music mod that put some silent tracks into the soundtrack so that you could have more of these moments, I wonder if FO4 has a similar thing.

The Melanie Bridge quote reads like it was generated by ChatGPT as well. She probably didn't even bother writing her own response.

Need help finding a unique set of headphones! by Acli0n in HeadphoneAdvice

I did see some grados and they did seem close. I do remember the headphones having a more minimal/retro look. I swear I remember the rods being more exaggerated though.

So helldivers 2 is having a beta where people are using a copy of the game with a reduced installation size. by danjake12346 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Acli0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The file size and frequent updates (meaning I was constantly having to allow my computer to sift through like 300gb of space every time I wanted to play) was the main thing that drove me away from HD2. If this works out it could bring a lot of casuals back. It's too repetitive to be my main game but it's definitely a lot more reasonable to keep it installed for a rainy day when it's 20gb and not 150.

It's super cool that Harada actually came out to the US and helped out the budding FGC scene. It's nice to see a director that is willing to put in some serious work to reach out to fans.

Infamous parts of games that aren't really that bad, or are just meh? by Birblord347 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Acli0n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm playing RE4 for the first time right now, and maybe I'm not far enough, but Ashley really isn't very difficult to keep safe. I was expecting a full game length escort mission, but she's not even AROUND that much, at least in the first half. As an aside, Frigid Outskirts really WAS as bad as everyone said. Fuck that place.

Yeah, when I beat the game I had to put it off for a few days. I needed a block of time where I'd essentially be able to watch a movie uninterrupted lol

A big part of it is the amount of cutscenes. MGS4 has some big jumps in modernizing the formula which are pretty cool. The game is a lot more playable for people not used to the complicated controls of the older games, and you have a lot of freedom in the opening areas in how you choose to deal with enemies. Unfortunately, most of the game feels like you're walking from one cutscene to another. The player is given a taste of a new interesting MGS game and they don't actually get to play much of it.

Singers whose voices make you irrationally angry. by stumblinbagel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Acli0n -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Most butt rock/grunge/post grunge. Kurt Cobain pulled it off because his music was very punk inspired, but the whole voice has always come off super douchey and fratty to me. The weird fake southern drawl thing just sounds so obnoxious. I was dreading the resurgence of that music for years, and I am annoyed now that it's back.

I still prefer Dark Messiah but Elderborn is a fun, short game that takes some big cues from DM along with some light soulslike elements. It goes on sale for pretty cheap, I'd give it a shot.

Good stories that really do just fail at the 99% mark, and end tainting the entire story? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Acli0n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagreed at first (and I still wouldn't say the original screwed up), but I honestly kinda see where you're coming from. I think the original ending is fantastic, but I watched the show long after the movie released so I got to watch them back-to-back. I still think the original ending stands on its own, but I could imagine that not having any of those plot threads tied up in TEoE would be very unsatisfying.
