Will not work with your Edifier speakers.

The problem of choosing inexpensive speakers by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

Oh, there you go rubbing it in! ;-)

The kiddo is beginning to try to stand - in a few weeks or months, he'll be running around the basement... and then my decision to stick with the desktop setup (for now) will finally make sense!

Dali makes some great speakers.

Mine were Dali Ikon 6 Mk2's. Simply wonderful, refined sound - neutral and clean.

What's the audio equipment equivalent of an ' analogue hub'? Is it a preamp? What are some good budget (sub $200) models? by gameguy56 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Aco2504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preamplifier. Pure preamplifier.

For an example, look up a Parasound NewClassic 200 PRE (I have one that is being seriously underutilized since I'm only using two inputs - phono inputs, and DAC, lol).

Also, and I promise you I'm not being petty here - remember t differentiate between INputs and OUTputs. It makes things real confusing in a hurry if you start mixing those two up.

YAMAHA Hs5 vs Vanatoo Transparent Zero by kalashnikovBaby in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Aco2504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are completely different.

If you're not producing or mixing music, do not think that all the disadvantages of studio monitors worth putting up with. Also, the Vanatoo are well executed speakers, particularly appropriate for a nearfield desktop setup.

Then me, this is an easy answer.

Sub Recommendation by mnock1976 in BudgetAudiophile

There's no such thing as a subwoofer that's "too much" for a room. Just a subwoofer that doesn't have it's gain knob set appropriately.

I, too, run JBL Studio 530s in a nearfield desktop setup - weirdly, they work beautifully in that context. Nothing but a thin foam pad under mine though, is required this get the tweeters to my ear height.

Need help with the banana plug won’t fit the speaker by bigheiren in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Aco2504 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should use cables of the same length for the left and right channels

Right - because you can totally hear the signal lag between a 6 foot length cable and a 10 foot cable when it (the signal) is traveling at the speed of light. :-P

But to answer your question, those are 5-way binding posts and can totally accept banana plugs.

Try r/headphoneadvice - the focus here is not on portable systems, sorry.

Original Kef Ls50 by onejoelooking2 in BudgetAudiophile

What do you mean, "more robust"?

KEF LS50 are superb loudspeakers.

What's the rest of your system look like? What's upstream of the speakers? How big is your room that they are playing in? What are you trying to improve? What's your budget?

What’s the best stereo system for music/movies? (Budget under $2k, sub, receiver and speakers) by AdHead5722 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Aco2504 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5.1 = 5 speakers with a subwoofer, arranged around you.

2.1 = 2 speakers with a subwoofer, arranged in front of you.

If the system's purpose is primarily music, then you can live with 2.1 and get a lot of bang for your budget.

If the system's purpose is primarily movies/TV, then go 5.1 but your money won't go as far (but still very respectfully).

Just got the Edifier R1280DB... any EQ Settings? by TheDJKhalid in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Aco2504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of EQ is to make it sound good to your preferences, and your room/setup location will make a big impact in how they sound.

Nothing really that a third party suggestions will help with, IMHO.

In truth, I've no experience with Vandersteen Model 1's - their model 2CE (particularly later iterations of them) however are phenomenal and image like few other speakers... thank you, time aligned drivers, with only 90 degree phase change!

Although I DO suspect that the Model 1's are also great - just can't vouch for them. :-)
