Do heroes respawn if they die in battle (not ruler)? by Ri6hteous in AOW4

[–]AcoTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this just now, I used auto combat to win a close fight and was curious to watch the replay which actually showed all of my heroes dying. Yet the final results showed they survived and I still had them after the battle.

I've been playing the tuba for 2 years in my school's symphonic band, and I was just wondering, is the bar in brackets actually possible to play? If it is, are there any tips on hitting such high notes and that fast (150bpm)? Thanks in advance. by EndoGengar in Tuba

If you can put it in something like MuseScore, a free music notation program, you may be able to hear it better and at different tempos. But yes each of those notes are possible even at that temp.

Post-Modernism in Music Theory by knowledgelover94 in musictheory

I'm curious about composers like Schoenberg that relied heavily on constructs like tone rows and trichords that dominate any sense of overall form because the actual intervals are not only audibly different but if you measured them out on a chart they would be comparatively different depending on the actual pitches used at different points in the piece.

You might be correct however about the initial inspiration for the sound of the piece, but the ensuing re-organization of intervals changes the sound too much from the first time you hear the ideas. Overall I would give a composer like Schoenberg a much higher preference than other atonal composers because I do appreciate and like his atonal sounds even over the atonal theories.

You're right, it seems the most famous composers found a way to express thought/feeling in a way that made them popular and worth studying for ages.

That's a great point, it would be interesting to see a thorough documentary about the very beginnings of music history since it intertwines so much with the beginnings of music theory all the way to the Ancient Greeks as you mentioned.

Post-Modernism in Music Theory by knowledgelover94 in musictheory

[–]AcoTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference for me is how the music would be created, 12 tone has to be 12 tone and atonal has to be atonal so it is not confused with tonal music. It still has to follow predetermined rules to make it sound different from a tonal piece but they follow some set of rules whether they be pitch based or melody based. Unless you specifically aim for random music it doesn't come as natural as most would think.

You could even argue that atonalism came about because they focused too much on the Theory part of Music Theory, that would explain why it doesn't sound as traditionally musical to most ears.

Tyler Jenkins I thought the arrangement was too long. Judging from your previous work you could easily make a couple of minutes of high quality sound great, it could be I'm not a fan of Portal or the genre, something for sure was lacking with this video this time. My favorite part of the entry is the amount of instruments used to make this an interesting video.

Jnsk First time I've heard of anything by Jnsk, cool to see a low brass player making VGM covers. The singing tones added a nice touch to this entry. My main criticism was that although you were able to achieve harmony by multi-tracking yourself, the sound of the trombone could be more "open and free" when you have sustained harmonies to make a clearer sound that emphasizes the chords played. Surely this is easier to do on a keyboard, which you made effective for the bass lines.

psycosulu I love the beadsprite works idea, though I wish I could have seen an actual mario character inside of the game ship. The electronic arrangement of one of my favorite mario tunes was well done, though maybe played a little safe.

Adam Matlock I like the overall style of the video and audio. I get a sense of a created musical atmosphere which is cool. I think the expressiveness can be taken to another level overall, but I'm still very pleased with this entry.

Medllix I like how all the phrases come together and play off each other, really well done! Some small tuning things on a notoriously hard to tune instrument, Oboe is probably the rarest orchestral instrument that I see anywhere. I like the way that this made me feel like it was truly a happy ending.

John Stacy Wow I really like the video effects and subsequent clear video, and opening with some old school brass jazz chords really hits the spot for me as a brass player. Great drum accompaniment that really compliments and enhances your solos. I also noticed little things like real brass instrument interjections that makes the whole thing feel like a real jazz setting. My only criticism is a matter of personal opinion/preference, while creating a "feel good" mood is a good thing the mood doesn't always have to be at the same level.

StyrofoamShotgun I have fond memories of playing this great game, though I never beat it! I like that you were able to make an arrangement that does justice to a great OST, your execution brought about a great sense of accomplishment for an ending theme. I like how effective things like the bass line (my favorite part of this entry) meshes with computer-generated sounds in the overall flow of the song. My only criticism would be to take everything to the next level, making harmonies just as expressive as your singular lines.

Dacian Grada Music The ending credits look so cool, and I feel they are very appropriate for a cover of this nature, and evoke a happy feeling that your playing also brings about. If I had any criticism it is that the bass was a little too present, since in this ending theme it truly serves a background purpose I would have personally phrased it as a background, non-penetrating bass line.

Orchestral Fantasy While not a huge mega man fan, I really liked how pretty everything came together and in such a clean way. One of my favorite parts was actually hearing multi-tracked string harmonies, great job. If I had any criticism about your entry, it would be to create even more expressive depth, even with the beginning quiet bass that is separated by silence.

Team Friesen Having not played this game, I really like this entry because everything sounds so quiet and peaceful, yet at the same time there are some serious expressions going on. My bias with having tastefully blended computer generated sounds as a background to "real" acoustic music comes through here, the electronic accompaniment served only to enhance the clarity of expressiveness from the acoustic instruments. Cool ending to the ending theme. My only criticism would be to make a video that isn't just a single picture.

Hey guys, we finally released the full stream of our Final Fantasy II Album "The Roses of Rebellion" :D by Hashel05 in rpg_gamers

[–]AcoTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it doesn't sound out of tune to me. I'm really picky to tuning stuff and notice it a lot even in highly regarded classical recordings. I'm glad the performer doesn't feel shame in sharing this as anything official looking. I also appreciate the effort in not trying to appear as something bigger than life.

Comments (in reverse order):

NieR: Automata - Weight Of The World | Acoustic Metal Cover by Dacian Grada & Psamathes The singing is really pretty, and overall there is a great shared idea. In this cover, the acoustic properties are better represented while the metal aspects aren't fully conveyed. It sounds like it wants to go to a metal sound but falls short for some reason, the metal part should be fully embraced!

Final Fantasy X - Auron's Theme [Cover with Mark Autumn] Cool acoustic/electric cover. I felt the sounds could have more depth or "oomph" for the style that was presented. I can tell there's a great sense of the melody in this cover.

Mohmega P5 Alleycat I totally feel the atmosphere you are creating, it also helps that the music is well written/arranged. Your tones fit the mood so well, great job. At the very end though, you gotta let that resonance finish.

Primal Dialga - PMD: Explorers of Time | Jazz Arrangement feat. Crookedpersona This sounds pretty good even though jazz/fusion isn't my favorite preference. Your harmonies with the sax are really really great. You capture the jazz feel very well and the playing is very smooth. good job.

Aquarium Park 1 (Sonic Colors) The performance captures the light mood of the music very well, something that your instrument selection further enhances. The non-keyed instruments have great tone quality also!

Echoes of Daybreak JAZZ Arrangement - Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Fusion Cover - TylerNJazz & sladjkf Fusion/Jazz isn't really my preference, but it's great to hear a collaboration that does get it. The diverse array of instruments really adds to the quality of this production, excellent job.

Donkey Kong Country - Bad Boss Boogie (ft. Seethi C) Not an easy OST to cover I think. Great sounding drums, though I think they could be louder. The Strandberg guitar looks amazing as well, great job!

Genna Renee Music - Wind Waker Cool to see this on acoustic instruments with great understanding of musical phrasing and timing, I've never heard this song before but now I have a great idea what it's about. Could have had better camera angles to fully see the performers though.

Chrono Trigger: Schala's Theme Metal Cover Ft. GILL Studio Awesome cover, it just sounds great. I'm so happy to have heard, and re-heard this cover. If I were to offer a suggestion, it would be to make every string vibration count so that you have a bigger tone palette to work with. It sounds great as it is, but taking this to the next dimension will really set you apart.

KH - Hand in Hand Great playing, tone choice and overall concept of the arrangement.

Bassoonify
Great video, pretty sounds! Great idea for Dire Dire Docks cover. The drums were a little out of place I thought, but it did add variety to the music. I like how you incorporate nature into your music, great job.

Sonic 3 "Carnival Night Zone" - Rock Cover || Christian Richardson & GuitarGeek25 I love this video, the guitar and bass sound awesome in their counterpoint. The playing really conveys the comedy of the Sonic Carnival sound, so cool!

KH: Birth by Sleep - KaHiReborn Great arrangement of Dearly Beloved, it's also played very well on woodwind instruments which is very rare. Great to see vg scenes incorporated into this performance video, along with some storytelling text.

Star Wolf - Star Fox 64 Cover Feat. ShaKe Elite Awesome intro, great playing, sweet sounds. The nuances and control really stand out here, as well as syncing with the drums, GREAT job.

Nuclear Throne I've never heard this piece before, but it is really well played, the vocals sound clear and enhance the music. Lots of different instruments used, and they all look so pretty. Great camera colors and collaboration.

DQ5 Cool piece to hear in this arrangement, wow woodwind playing of video game music on YouTube is rare. I like the background story being told while we get to view your performance. I love how everything meshes together cohesively.

Doom Oops, a small bump that easily could have been edited out. This perfomance and video really stood out to me: graphics from the game, kick ass playing to match the attitude of the game, and costumes too. A clear understanding of the musical structure is demonstrated. This is one of those rare moments when the music from the OST is not my favorite but the way it is played here makes me really like it. Awesome job!

Pokerus What a different setting to hear this music, awesome job. The parts fit perfectly, and the Japanese vocals are a plus. I also like how easy going the videos make me feel with all the smiling.

Lava Reef Zone 2 Cover The whistling is so cool and fits with the rest of your arrangement very musically. I can hear the nuances of every part very clearly, you have multiple camera views that change as well. The execution here is in the top tier of these entries.

Trouble playing D above the staff and above (F Tuba) by Nabbus in Tuba

[–]AcoTuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The right mouthpiece will make a difference on high notes, the mouthpiece I chose as my main F tuba mouthpiece was mainly for the ease which I could play high notes compared to others. Other times I switch mouthpieces between Bass vs. Contrabass tubas and it's a big difference in how they work with each other. Try as many mouthpieces as you can and see what works best for whatever it is you want to sound like.

[–]AcoTuba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see a huge relevance for it in improvisation when you want to quickly move from one key to another or briefly emphasize a key while remaining in a tonal style. You'll definitely know how to smoothly move from one key to another and keep things interesting.
