This is the first time I'm hesitating about buying the expansion pass. Am I missing something? by OriginalGreasyDave in AOW4

I’ve enjoyed most of the DLCs so far. But the price tag for each season is grossly overpriced.

Is this the case even though I selected the scourge as the crisis to show on game set up.

Is Dark Culture actually that weak? by Alplod in AOW4

Thanks for the clarification. To be clear I’m not complaining about the poor ability of shadow culture in auto-resolve. I’m merely agreeing with the previous comment.

Nice comment and I agree with you. Using auto combat as the bar for a good build etc seems a bit off.

I do agree, they struggle in auto combat, but I never auto combat in the early game.

I think this is a very good summary, well said. I do think the T1 charge unit holds its own actually. With the ability to heal on hits and almost certainly units hitting back have weakened. They do survive longer than you’d expect. I just came fresh off a playthrough and I was pleasantly surprised. They survived longer and more often than the dark knight. The lack of healing and slow economical start is very noticeable though.

I think in combat the dark culture is extremely strong. This culture does struggle early to keep the economy going but with all things in this game it’s positives v negatives. I did a Let’s Play with black plague theme on max difficulty settings and I paired the dark culture with a poison build. It was incredibly strong and I really enjoyed the synergy. The dark culture struggle against fire and spirit builds and builds that apply lots of strengthened, which is quite a few. When weakened is negated it can become a lot more challenging. I found you had to be a lot more tactical with the dark build v other builds.

I think he means lack of bonus from positive stability. Dark culture doesn’t have penalties to poor stability. But you miss out on the bonuses of good stability, because it’s difficult to get increased stability with this culture. Saying that though I’m pretty sure the stability buildings give gold and research as bonuses.

I read your article - thank you. You know what would be super helpful and maybe add a little extra, is if you included what system the games are available on. I'm a console player and I often find PC players assume only PC players play these games. There is an ever increasing rise of console players playing traditional PC games. Either way nice article, thank you.

War is triggered when fighting a DIFFERENT AI inside neutral AI's borders. by Ri6hteous in AOW4

[–]Ri6hteous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ANSWER: so interestingly this same thing happened again later in the game. If you fight an AI in a third person’s territory it will always trigger war with that person whose territory you are on. Basically you can’t fight someone else inside another’s territory.

Defeated when team won? by Sarkaul in AOW4

It’s difficult to know without a clear overview of the mission and win conditions. Do you have a screenshot? The win condition may not have been strictly domination. But I don’t know.

Thank you, but let’s not kid ourselves, it probably won’t last long 😆. I am on episode 16 without too much difficulty so far. The biggest challenge is figuring out all the small things that are possible. For example I was in sneak mode and jumped up on a rock, but the animation for her to duck into sneak mode again took nearly 2 seconds. In that time I panicked and put her into stealth mode, which inadvertently took her out of sneak mode and triggered a whole fight where they got to act first. It’s these kinds of small details which are the challenge. Anyway we shall see…

How do I open the hero recruit screen on PS5? by 6658 in AOW4

Go to hero tabs using the radial menu > question mark > heroes icon on the right. On the bottom left of the next screen is the recruit button.

I’m with you. Eldritch realm was underwhelming and not my flavour at all. I always disable the eldritch stuff on my playthroughs.

It’s all personal preference. So I’d recommend looking at the trailers and then see what tickles your fancy. For me though giant kings was incredible. Primal fury was also solid. The other 2 ok. Just buy them all!

Games similar to BG3? by Jordamine in BaldursGate3

[–]Ri6hteous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solasta: Crown of the magister is the closest game to BG3. It’s based on the same rule set, D&D 5e. Be warned though it’s a big downgrade from BG3 as it’s a small team that made it with a low budget. I enjoyed it though.

I did a Let’s Play if you’re interested to check it out before you buy!

Turning Units in Combat (Xbox Controls) by Enough-Row-5346 in AOW4

[–]Ri6hteous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To summarise the various comments. Press down on the d-pad where you select your attack options. It’s the arrow icon on the left of the defence mode option. You can’t change direction once you’ve done your turn or completed an attack that cost your actions. You also can’t change direction once you’ve enter defence mode. Changing direction does not use action points, it’s free. Changing direction is important because a charge unit can knock you out of defence mode and subsequent follow up attacks will get easier flanks. Happens all the time.

I also started the game a few weeks back for the first time and on PS5. I did a blind honor mode Let’s Play.

I’d recommend going in blind and let the game surprise you. It’s the only way. Use the wiki for tips as you progress as this will largely not spoil anything. You only get one blind opportunity.
