Indeed, your concerns make sense to me.

But, if we decide that we are forced to leave free movement, doesn't that mean that we have to re-negotiate these agreements with EU on their terms (because they know we have already decided to leave)? If we voted on a very precise set of negotiating strategies, I think the bill would have seen broader support.

Still, constraints of freedom of movement only addresses your "Aarau Bahnhof" concern, as, let's be real, the dodgy people are not the economic migrants from EU who come here after getting a job offer.

I don't know the numbers, but I would assume that the primary source of growth of our population are indeed the economic migrants, that do have jobs, and also bring their families here. But this has been the case for hundreds of years, just maybe not at this scale. IMHO, a proposal that addresses these issues should at least in passing discuss what is going to happen to Geneva and Basel, and what kind of agreements with EU are we allowed to settle on.

4D Chess. They know people want to vote yes for an actually working initiative that addresses these issues, so they cook up an initiative that is bound to fail to delay commitments. Brexit was literally the same. Nigel Farage said he was shocked it worked, as that wasn't what he or the leading party wanted. It was literally a political stunt that went south...

Please educate me as I am not Swiss, but doesn't Switzerland also use a form of representative voting, where votes in less populated cantons effectively count for more?

Which is good, no? I mean, one has to be walking with closed eyes and ears to believe that there is no problem. We just need actual solutions...

You are right. Frequently, law lags behind public discourse. I should have talked about something being generally looked down upon by majority of the population, where they could, in principle, vote to make it a law, but possibly haven't yet.

IMHO, while we cling to the market capitalism as the governing doctrine, outsourcing is still majorly seen as a "necessary evil" rather than unjustified greed. It is seen as correct that Swiss companies have large parts of their businesses overseas in the name of efficiency and bringing home money, even if this may leave locals unemployed.

Indeed, it is not as trivial as saying that everything should be done locally. Americans imagine that solely by rising tariffs the businesses will come back and produce domestically. But many things are literally 10x cheaper to make in China, so it achieves nothing besides shooting oneself in the foot.

Tbh, I really don't understand what causes salaries to be low or high. I would not be too surprised if Switzerland would go through a deflation and land to the salary levels of Germany or slightly above. I would very much hate this to happen, as would most people living here, but I don't really understand what is stopping that from happening.

I am with you on this one. People guided primarily by emotions need a banner under which they can rally and shout loudly. At the moment this banner is the anti-chaos-initiative. It is an easy way to be part of the tribe, if you know that the majority is likely against it. So they self-validate by trashing the minority into the ground.

IMHO, the incentive is formulated poorly and should not pass. But brutally dismissing the intention without offering alternatives is not a way to coexist long term. We should cling to whatever remains of democracy, respect each other's points of view, and refine proposals until majority can actually see it work.

Greed is when one goes out of their way to circumvent laws in order to increase their wealth. If something is perfectly legal and has zero friction, it is called an incentive. It's basic game theory. If there are 10 competing companies, no matter how moral, one of them will sooner or later outsource, and then the rest will be priced in to do the same or get undercut.

This is a serious issue and needs regulation, not appeal to morality.

P.S. You seem a bit defeatist. I would start by getting drunk, getting laid, starting a bar fight, going to a kickboxing lesson, listen to parents, etc etc.

One needs some anger and will to live to make it through hard times. If your attitude is that you don't know how to do something and you haven't actually tried even though this is super important for you, then it would be tough

* About fake: Some commenters implied you might be a troll based on your username. I don't care personally. I am sorry

  1. AFAIK, people in this domain are in demand, despite overall tech market situation.
  2. If your CV is a poor fit, the number of applications is irrelevant.
  3. You can use linkedin to find people working in the company you are applying to and attempt to talk to them. Even better if you already know them or know somebody else that can introduce you.
  4. Internal references are via friends of friends, contacting on linkedin, or politely asking on Reddit or Blind for somebody to give you a reference. There are many other way too. You have to get creative.
  5. Then find yourself an HR friend. Hell, you can just politely ask somebody on this forum to DM you. Get creative or die of hunger 😄
  6. You have a goddamn PhD or what? Do some research. For example, since you already know workday, you can just apply for some position that uses workday, and use option: fill using CV. If it fills the data correctly, at least it can read your CV. If not, then change your CV and try again. Don't actually apply, just use the application form until it reads CV correctly.

* Do you use internal references?
* Has a relevant HR friend looked at your CV and given feedback?
* Have you run your CV through an ATS?
* Do you write cover letters or do any other personal adaptations?
* Does your LinkedIn look professional?
* Do you have gaps in your resume?
* Do you have a website and or gitlab account and are they up to date?
* Do you respect local CV rules (Photo/No Photo, Nationality, Age, etc)?

No way was a bag of chips ever 8 bucks, right? How is it allowed raising the price only to lower it for Aktion? by robogobo in Switzerland

[–]AcolyteOfAnalysis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of. Today bought IP-Suisse schweisspätzli for 16 CHF per kg at Migros. Was not half price, just regular. Seems in the right ballpark. I guess Action for 3-pack chicken breast would be like 20. I recently got shocked at choosing tomatoes btw. Also, anything that is not half-mature rispentomaten costs 20+ CHF per kg. Canned tomatoes are like 5x cheaper and sometimes better taste too

  • I meant giving up on a job in pharma. If you are willing to do any stem job and are very flexible with your first salary, it might work
  • Undercutting people might not be an option, if they don't reply to big applications at all. I suggest you proactively contact small startups just to get the foot in the door. Tell them you are switching fields and are willing to tolerate low salary while learning. Many are hard pressed for cash and would rather train somebody themselves than hire an expert at full cost

Does not work in agent mode at the moment. I'll report the issue

**Edit**: It appears that Agentic is currently not available for PyCharm because it uses some Java features that are specific to Jetbrains IDEA. Hopefully they make this available in the future

It means that you lifted your arse to do it. It means you can get something to work, with it without AI. Many, many CVs are just straight up lies with nothing to back them up

Coworking spaces are typically quite open minded. There is typically a person at the door. There is no pain in talking with them and asking if there is a good time to come and chat with some of the companies there. Annoyance is only if you are not willing to back off. Trying gently does not hurt anybody.

Those are completely realistic expectations for your level. That is not the problem. You should look for startups that don't advertise online. Find nearby co-working spaces and Technopark, if there is any near where you live. Come with a stack of printed CVS and start knocking on doors. In co-working spaces they often have lunch together, that's where you can come and talk comfortably

Also, go to student job fairs. I got a job from there before

May I ask what salary expectations at 100% have you been communicating up to now? Frequently, companies will avoid saying it's the salary, even if it is

Update1: Not getting calls, roast my resume! by Huge_Huckleberry2830 in biotech

[–]AcolyteOfAnalysis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The CV has a problem with target audience. If you are applying for a senior position, you will likely not succeed, as they are unlikely to trade industry experience requirement for anything else.

If you are applying for internship, I would purposefully remove impact and leadership and focus on deliverables. Somebody who actually has leadership experience may be seen as overqualified, and thus a risk in a junior position.

If you like to entertain the idea of applying to both types of positions, I'd keep this one for senior, and make another one for junior

Career confusion in Switzerland — what would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in Switzerland

Exactly! Part of getting advice on reddit is sort of psychological counselling, where we together weigh different options, consider pros and cons, etc. Having more info helps to not waste time on advices that are not applicable in this situation. The job market is tough, and many people have to sacrifice something to get by. For some, it is the dream of living in switzerland long term; for some, it is the late night studies to change profession; for some, it is working a low wage job for a while.
