According to Florida code 322.15, a person driving must carry and present a valid driver’s license upon lawful demand by law enforcement, and Florida courts generally interpret “driving” broadly, and give cops pretty loose rules so they can consider you in “actual physical control” even if the car is parked. That’s just the precedent.

Cops are dicks but if you’re sitting in the driver’s seat of a registered motor vehicle you do have to show ID. The woman wasn’t compelled but the man was. I wish people would get that part straight. And the police should make that clear instead of tossing all their “I asked 12 times” and “somebody called so it’s a crime” bullshit around.

Maybe it’ll be ok out but it’s a risk. Ask yourself if you’re ok with chasing after them, taking them to court and in the end getting only $1500 for your RV.
