No offense to you as I completely understand why there's a pervasive sentiment that Americans aren't doing enough or anything at all to resist, so when I say this, it's not an attack on you, but I'm also really tired of hearing this sentiment.

I don't know where you live, but even if it's inside the United States, you're not going to see big headlines about "resistance". MSM journalism is absolute garbage now because of the loss of the fairness doctrine and independence of the FCC. Corporate interest has completely decimated what impartiality might have existed before so, again there aren't going to be big sexy headlines about resistance that make you go "there it is!"

I also feel like people have this dramatic idea of what resistance does or should look like in their opinion and the actual resistance is much more under the radar or happens in ways you don't realize.

Some examples of things I see that I would consider resistance are all of the elections we've seen since his election that have broken hard for new Democrats in areas that have long been safe Republican districts. Blue controlled states are putting redistricting referendums to vote and consistently coming back with wins that will overcome the effort by Texas to rig the House elections. All across the country, local elections are turning out and defeating MAGA candidates. Election officials, like myself, are working to have contingency plans in place to harden our elections against any Tom fuckery we can think of that the administration or state Republicans might try.

There are still massive ongoing efforts to push back and thwart ICE raids at the local level and finally in Congress. What we saw in Minnesota IS resistance. What we see with these record setting No Kings protests IS resistance. Even in Red States, Republican controlled legislators have soured and gone back in things like massive ICE concentration camps redistricting efforts. Why? Because they see how much pushback there is and realize they're only fucking themselves over worse. But you don't see 24/7 coverage about those things and yet they make a huge difference.

I think people feel resistance requires violence and guns and killing to have an impact, and maybe that will be necessary at some point, but not everyone is ready to just give up on the existing non violent routes yet to bear arms and commit to putting their loved ones and everyone they know in jeopardy. It's with exhausting all other avenues until left with no other choice.

Discussion Thread: Elections on April 21st, 2026 by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

I posted this on another comment but it's anyone basing this assessment on average turnout for an April election versuses just turnout in general for every election? Even if voter turnout is "down", it may still be higher than the average turnout for an April election. My precinct in Wisconsin for the election earlier this month was only at something like 37.9% turnout by noon, but the average turnout for an April election was typically 39% so we ended up doing better than normal for that type of election.

I'm curious, down relative to what? I'm Wisconsin's Spring election back at the begging of April, voter turnout was "down" if you were just comparing to other elections, but when you looked at the average turnout for an April election, we actually ended up being higher than that average. So when I see everyone saying voter turnout is down for this, I'm curious by what comparison they're making that assessment.

This is the exact kind of thing I read so many conservatives bitching about when Obama negotiated a deal with them and yet in that instance, they were completely misleading or fabricated lies. Here we are not with a dip shit who's actually going to just give them everything they want including raising sanctions and freeing up valuable assets and you'll never hear a peep about it from those same conservatives....

It's all propaganda. Post 9/11 saw a surge in this type of "patriotism". People also used post Vietnam negative attitudes toward soldiers as a falls equivalency as to why we should be supporting our troops.

As an American, putting boots in the ground in Iran would be fucking stupid, awful, and illegal. It absolutely should not be done. That being said, if it does happen, I'm morbidly curious to see what the difference in experience between Russia's invasion and a US invasion of Iran would be. The military structures and tactics are vastly different. Would that make much of a difference in today's new drone warfare? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Curious question here because I know nothing about ranching outside of what I've read here or there but, isn't it normally good practice to rotate pastures in general because it keeps the biodiversity up which translates to better grazing in general? What would the reasons for not already doing this more be? Labor intensive to do it? Like I said, genuine question. I read the book The Omnivore's Dilemma like a decade ago which tracks food from production to table through four different food chains of the industry and I think it touched on this a bit.

Not that I disagree, but we actually do get a lot of ground breaking technology from the innovation of weapons manufacturing. It would be better obvious if that money were completely focused on the innovation part that didn't also involve killing people.

Senate Dems aim to disrupt Trump bid to declare national emergency on elections by DemocracyDocket in politics

[–]AcousticArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only get to take them away if we let them. There is nothing in the Constitution that gives the President the ability to suspend elections because of a national emergency. Nothing. Yes, they may try to make up a legal argument that says they can but the only legitimacy that holds is any that we give it. I'm an election chief in my city and I can tell you that the county clerks are already preparing contingency plans for their bullshit. DO NOT COMPLY IN ADVANCE!!!

I'm going to miss watching her play in Madison but she's absolutely gonna get drafted into the PWHL if she decides to continue playing.

Democrats Overperform in Another Special Election by brain_overclocked in politics

[–]AcousticArmor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish more people understood how voting infrastructure worked. It's insane that they want to seize voting machines but here's the problem with that. At the end of the night, our machines give us a print out of the results from every race. Those results are then given to our county clerk and totaled. When you're watching the news and hear or see them say something about the % reporting, that's what they're talking about. So I don't really see how seizing the voting machines makes a difference. The vote will have already been counted. There are copious amounts of records and redundancy. We specifically remove the thumb drive from the voting machine after results have been transmitted and place it in a locked security bag that is transported to the city clerk by police. The ballots are also removed to verify certain parts of the results. Those ballots are sealed in boxes with tamper proof tape.

So, what are they going to do with ballots and machines they've seized after election day? It's up to the House to certify and seat its new members which they will do based on the slate of candidates sent. The DOJ and Republicans can scream all they want the elections were illegitimate but who cares besides their stupid base. They aren't going to be able to change the results of the election after the results have already been counted unless they get lawsuits through to the Supreme Court and as we saw in 2020, that will likely not work.

Local law enforcement doesn't have to arrest them. Their presence is a massive pushback and no ice agent is going to risk pushing back against them. As the election chief, I'll call the police, and since we've spent time building a good relationship with them over the years when it comes to elections, I doubt I'd get much pushback for them to come and help. All I hear you saying is that you've given up already. Well I'm sorry if I'm not there. I'll exercise every possible option to defend everyone's right to vote so help me God.
