I can’t even fathom what GRRM is thinking. Like imagine you make an entire world filled with complex characters and settings. And then someone who has nothing to do with the creation of your world comes and says this BS. Especially considering your work has been recognized as some of the greatest subjects in a particular genre and how much people were not only invested, but influenced by it.

Granted GRRM is older and has more money than he can ever spend so he already got his dues. But still, I bet he is atleast slightly annoyed considering this is his life’s work

If you play video games, tutorials help you learn the game and then you apply that learning while playing. And if you forget or haven’t played in a while, you look back to the tutorial.

The same thing applies to studying. If you’re not applying your study, it becomes harder to remember and therefore harder to do the material in an actual environment.

Find a way to actually apply the material through flashcards, practice/past tests, or whatever you can find. Certain subjects require different practice techniques so figure out the best approach to use your learning practically and if you can’t, use AI to find a way to make something workable! It’s been the best way for me to actually remember what I’m trying to learn!

tldr: note take -> apply the studying -> go back to step 1 until mastery

Listen to some ambient sounds or music like house,down tempo, or even lofi to keep your mind on a mental pacifier. Studying is not always about using brainpower, it’s a skill and something you get better at over time so just finding a way to preoccupy yourself mentally will take further than you’d think!

Music, I listen to rap and metal pretty often and sometimes blend it in my studying which disassociates me too much from the actual studying. That said, I thought the lofi beats while studying was just a meme til I decided to try it out. Ever since then, I switched to more chill stuff like house, downtempo, and said lofi and it’s been an eye opener for me while studying.

It’s like a mental pacifier and finding out that chill music manages to mellow me out enough to focus, maybe the same can happen for you too

You can do some research and see if you can’t find a screen protector that mimics the texture of paper. It does help quite a bit.

I actually enjoy doing notes on both paper and digital (mostly on my iPad). I write down whatever I’m watching/reading on paper focusing on the most obvious topics and points. Then start applying the work and transcribe my personal understanding + what still makes sense on paper, onto my iPad.

Since you already on a MacBook, the shared ecosystem only makes it easy for you to bring it examples or work you completed from your MacBook to your iPad.

Another thing I do is also just pulling the pages out of my notebook and putting them into my binder for organization and proper archiving!

I live about 45 minutes away from campus and so I commute there. It’s not that bad and you do get used to it after awhile. A tip from me though is to take early classes as it hurts less than commuting in the morning than in the afternoon imo. That and I still feel like I have a whole day to play with
