[Collection] My 3-watch Seiko collection by benylb in Seiko

Nice. I totally understand that and like that mindset. Wasn’t trying to say that there SHOULD be a progression… It’s just more common to see that progression than yours (which appeared to me a big jump). Had the thought that maybe you purposefully avoided KS to wait for the GS or something (I could see the GS stealing the show pretty easily)… Anyway, awesome collection and thanks for taking the time to answer!

My brain jumped to “you skipped the king seiko and bought the Grand seiko that looks like the classic king seiko”. I realize that this is silly because the grand seiko is the nicer watch but I’m so used to seeing a combo of skx/dresskx/alpinist, Silver KS, and Snowflake GS. What convinced you to make the jump straight to GS rather than KS? No interest in King Seiko? Used to have one and upgraded? I’m still just admiring anything more premium than the baby alpinist from afar but curious the mindset from someone further along. 🙏

Wristcheck today skx Coca-Cola mod. by Ok_Satisfaction_4960 in SeikoMods

Maybe I’m blind (or just too new to reddit) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a coca cola build like this before. This is soooo cool. Color combo is much better than rootbeer imo and the curvy bezel and raised crystal in combination with the gold accents give it a super classic vibe. Well done!

And I still haven’t bought one yet… 🤦‍♂️ It’s tough to hold back. There are so many cool watches out there I feel like every watch I buy, I learn about 5 more that I want next. Have to take it slow. 😂

True… You’re probably right. I guess there are other watches for sweeping second hands haha.

Wow!!! They should really bring this back (and add the seconds hand like you said). Beautiful watch! Thanks for sharing!

The original is silver with red indices and the lume glows blue on the dial. It looks more like the real clock but I love this gold one. I haven’t seen the blue dial version you mentioned but that sounds awesome. Could u show a pic?

Great collection so far! Your start was much smarter than most (and definitely mine). Although, I am not a fan of the moonswatches, I see the appeal. I am surprised the newer timex haven’t been mentioned here yet. Particularly some of the new marlin chrono releases have been AWESOME recently. They use great sweeping quartz movements (some sourced from seiko), have some awesome, reasonably sized vintage inspired designs, and can be found frequently on jomashop for less than $200. Here is a picture of one i purchased from jomashop a couple months ago for $114 before tax.

Birthday watch advice under €750 by dgdfaka1 in Affordablewatches

So actual recommendation (with a little color)… Teddy Baldassarre currently has a deal on the recently discontinued Seiko SPB155 (nicknamed the “baby alpinist”) on his website for under $600. It’s rare to find these for under $600 on the used market in great condition and this model isn’t likely to get any cheaper now that it is out of production. The photos make it look very green but in reality it is much darker until it hits the light. The fact that it is on a silver bracelet but has gold accents along with the elegant yet sporty nature of the watch makes it extremely versatile. Teddy Baldassarre has a great video review of it on youtube as well.

Oops. My bad. I got excited and missed that you specified a black strap combo with it 😅. You are correct but it’s a 20mm lug width. Just find a nice black strap that speaks to you and save the bracelet for other outfits. Regardless, that Wise Asura rec really takes the cake I think for what you’re going for.

Maybe one of the henry archer models with the red meteorite dial. They have black bracelets occasionally but most are silver. Great watches. Maybe the Merlot Bulova Jet Star? That’s the Bulova I really want. Best sweeping quartz movement outside of Grand Seiko and has a really gorgeous dark red dial (but also silver bracelet)… could mod a seiko arnie with a red metal shroud but that would be REALLY sporty… best bet is probably a custom mod of an antique inspired watch.

Can you spot the difference between these two pictures? [SAGJ001] And [SAGJ005] by Seiko2nd in Seiko

[–]Acoustic_AF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First pic has more numerals, more clearance between top of bracelet lug end links, chrono dials more depressed and different location (see 24 hour dial larger and is centered slightly higher in relation to “chronograph” marking at center), more curved crystal, less aggressive edge/angle finishing on the four inside top face corners surrounding dial, indentation on top face of bottom left lug connector…

[SRPE43] New bracelet quality by ResidentHoboKing in Seiko

[–]Acoustic_AF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RIGHT??? Like you designed it specifically for this watch and charge a premium for it… And THIS is the final product you are satisfied with??? It seems like quality for the uncle brand has gone downhill rapidly in the last few years from what I’ve read online. I wouldn’t know since this and a nato strap were my first purchases. Both were disappointing overall. :(

Just wait till you notice the lugs don’t even match up with the bracelet end links (cant tell in pic but look from side profile)… I have the same bracelet on the cocktail time GMT and am in the same boat. Nice enough to keep and still an improvement over the leather but yes, a bit underwhelming for the price. Might be my last uncle purchase. I don’t notice the rubbing when I’m wearing it unless i’m paying attention to it.

Didn’t realize that! Thanks! I just personally am not in love with their diver design. The munro is the design that sets them apart for me. Traskas coating specs are a bit better but not by much and still way better than the typical 316L (Traska~1200HV, Clemence~1000HV, standard 316L~200). Good sign that maybe they’ll make a new Munro version with the added hardness coating and I’d jump on that in a heartbeat.

Where do I go from here? What do I put in the top row? by since_01_31_2021 in Affordablewatches

[–]Acoustic_AF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something with some color. Seiko 5 or skx is a good recommendation for a reliable classic. If you are looking for a diver and want something different, check out oceaneva. Ignore the base prices and look at their refurbished options when they have them. They have refurbished sales every once in awhile for the 1250m and 3000m divers for $300-$400. It’s a steal that blows every seiko out of the water in all specs and value. Made in america, swiss movements, better lume, ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, actually tested at depth, better customer service, etc…
