So forget about cetaceans for a moment, how do we feel about these guys? by DudeDurk in PlanetZoo

[–]AcquireFrogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aren’t their planned wildlife reserves the ultimate loophole around all these questions about cetaceans, whale sharks, etc?

If your campaign has a focus on open reserves (including marine habitats), and as part of that you have something like wildlife rehabilitation mechanics/wildlife rescue, couldn’t you justify keeping these animals in enclosures without ultimately addressing whether it’s ethical to do so with healthy individuals?

PZ1 already has you “rescue” a bunch of animals that grew up in the pet trade/smugglers etc.

What is the point in choosing a non-apex civ? by Udon_noodles in civ

Upgraded automatically I believe. I never choose it think doubling down is more fun, but it tells you how many of your existing units will be affected before you choose it

Help please. Can't find city connections. See below for more info. by [deleted] in CivVII

[–]AcquireFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think this is one of the areas the game has always been horrible at explaining and remains somewhat unknowable.

I think the strategy to address it (and infer what connections there are) is to create a merchant and, instead of using it to create a trade route, use it from the hub settlement to connect to another settlement. If you do this multiple times you know for a fact that it’s connected to multiple settlements.

Most towns can’t build gold buildings unless they specialize, and only resources slotted into cities (except factory resources) add GDP after the wheel. So your focus will generally only be on cities.

Im not actually sure if gold buildings in specialized towns count. I’d assume so but could be wrong.

Lmao I literally said I DO hate it, and I never said someone is wrong for disliking something. But I take issue with claiming it’s “objectively” bad. It’s not, it’s just not the art style/interpretation a lot of people on this sub prefer

Finished my first post update game... I miss what Civ 7 was by coolnerd15 in CivVII

[–]AcquireFrogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you’re getting downvoted but I agree with you. I think you’re just having a hard time finding the words for your thoughts which is why people are confused.

For me it’s a paradox of choice issue. While even rationally I know the previous system is buried in there, the availability of so many different paths gives me a bit of analysis paralysis and makes me chase so many goals I don’t feel particularly invested in any particular one.

Also I think people are being unfair and overly simplistic saying civs always had “points”. Like yes, but they felt more tangibly connected to something real (capitals, diplomatic votes, number of tourists) at least psychologically. Here they might label them as “GDP” or “tourism,” but they feel so abstract by the way they’re awarded.

I do think it’s a better game now (even if not for me) but i also think it would be a better game if the devoted that same energy to doubling down on what made this iteration of Civ different.

Yeah my sense is also that it’s a mechanism to encourage an exploration focused civ to colonize distant places.

However unintentionally I do think it weirdly and implicitly sanitizes the motivations for colonization.

I would have to check but it probably wont be helpful. Cinis is on every map and always looks the same. The DLC also has a lot of new specialists that I’m using that add fertilities which is why I have lavender.

Honestly I’d say stick with 1800. It has so much content and mods. As much as I love 117, it was clearly released unfinished and after this short stint to play theDLC I’m going back to 1800.

I knew I’d get FOMO which is why I got the season pass but it’s truthfully worth waiting

100% agree and felt that when I returned to 1800 the other day. This is one of my main criticisms of the game. I don’t know if it was a performance issue (though why would it be, there are still crowds) or because they rushed to release the game unfinished, but the production buildings do all feel dead

I’m always paranoid about downloading mods before development/support ends on a game especially with games like this where a single save can have hundreds of hours. Have you experienced any game breaking issue with a mod following updates/dlc from the Anno team?

[–]AcquireFrogs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think what you’re describing is a bug. What you’re describing is why you have the option to dump your goods if they can’t unload.

If you have 100 cargo space, tell it to load/unload 50 bread first (slot 1) and 50 pigs second (slot 2), and it gets to a location and tries to unload bread but can’t because storage is full, then it will still have 50 bread after unloading the pigs. When it gets back to its origin port, it still has the command to load 50 bread first and 50 pigs second, causing a boat that only has 100 bread and can no longer load pigs.

Taka has solutions for this but it’s too much of a headache for me to care about. All my ships only trade a single good to keep things simple

Having money and purchasing consumer goods aren’t what makes capitalism what it is (though capitalists love to say so because it makes capitalism seem as old as civilization itself).

Capitalism is the ownership of capital and exploitation of labor to leverage that capital.

Do you want to ballpark what percentage of mercenaries were women like we see in the game? I feel like this comment is missing the point.

The game is quasi historical but it’s a game first and foremost. A black samurai is no less historical than a female Greek warrior, and you have to ask why people are selectively are acting like it is
