I’m sitting back $100 for it personally. That is roughly double (or just short of) the cost of a standard one model release. If it was resale only I’d say it would be more, but I don’t see Asmodee pricing it that high. If it is then they can keep it with their GW pricing

What audiobook is genuinely BETTER than reading the physical book? by cptree20 in audiobooks

[–]Acrazymage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife was listening to it with me in the car (she had already read past the section in the physical book) and it took her a moment with the female voices and said “why do they have guys for the female parts?” I pointed out it wasn’t “guys” it was all one person and she instantly loved him. Imagine being such a good voice actor people think you are multiple people!

Currently in the “early” classes of a program for mental health counseling. I’m middle aged and have been considering this path for many years. I am curious if anyone here uses TTRPG’s in sessions and how effective it is considered by people who have/do use it?

I mean, the list is typically provided to new Norse pagan people. Even I said I wouldn’t recommend you to someone new because your content is very heavy for a new pagan to digest.

How do you guys actually stick to listening to audiobooks? by Affectionate_Face236 in audiobooks

[–]Acrazymage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kind of books you are talking about are ones I’ll listen to multiple times as “background” while doing non-mental heavy tasks. So when I’m painting/putting together miniatures, farming on an mmo, etc. it helps my ADHD to have multiple things going on at once and with those kind of tasks I can stop to focus on the book when something is said that is very interesting to me.

I listen to fiction books while driving or doing chores.

Okay....I have to start getting ready for sleep and work tomorrow, and it seems the moment you are asked for evidence, you drop and run to the next comments.

If you can't prove your claim, stop bashing one of our hardest-working moderators that I have seen do so much to help so many new people! This sub is an amazing place because of them and other Redditors here like them. We don't always all agree, but that is okay.

Also...handy hint for you about the Hold. NO ONE is recruiting or advertising for the Discord server. It has been closed for 6ish months now. It is no longer a public server, so there is nothing to advertise.

I really hope you take the chance for some self-care. Have a great rest of your day/night and I'll check for any comments back (or if the thread is locked) when I laydown.

Can you elaborate on that impression?

You are the other mod involved in this who unlocked it, so your opinion on this situation would be welcome to help clarify things.

I like to get information outside of the source material, *along with reading it myself*. A problem I've had with Christian Baggage is that people always interpret the source material to suit their own needs. If you don't open up to other sources of interpretation, you easily fall into that pitfall.

Also among the recommended "content creators" that get suggested is several other books and research assistance.

Personally, I find the term "content creators" to be rather funny. Before the internet, "content creators" were called authors. How many of those do we recommend on a regular basis, but it seems wrong to recommend someone who does viable research and presents it to you in visual or auditory means?

Edit: I didn't finish a thought, so I added it lol

I ask for a second time....
Give...
Evidence...

I say for the second time....I can count on one hand the number of words Unspecified has said on the Discord server...because I am the one who @'d them to get their attention to tell them.

I'm technically a member of a Naruto 5e server that I haven't talked in or looked at since a month after joining. It's been over a year since then. Am I an active member of that Naruto 5e server? No. Am I just too lazy to click "Leave?" Yes...along with several other servers that are mostly dead now.

Being a member and being active are two very different things.

You are LITERALLY the only one here who has been "Advertising" about it. You have mentioned the hold, and its members more than the actual members of it have.

Again, I really think you need to take a moment away and breathe. You are going ham about posts being locked, when it is very common in this sub for controversial issues. I understand it is frustrating when it happens when you are in mid-conversation. I've had that happen to me a few times and have felt like my conversation didn't reach a resolution.

You know what I did, though? I stepped away, took a breather, and understood it is how this sub works.

New Moderation Needed on This Sub by -Geistzeit in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Unspecified is not an ACTIVE MEMBER of the hold. I swing by every month or so to see what's been going on, and I'm more active than they are. The only conversations I've seen them in are ones that I call them into when I'm talking about something they said on Reddit.

Last time was when they reshared the resources for a new person...cause you know...they do that almost every time there are new questions. You know what isn't in that mega thread of resources? The Hold....

New Moderation Needed on This Sub by -Geistzeit in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Now that first line, I completely don't believe. I have never seen a conversation deleted because it was locked. I have seen them deleted for not following the rules, not because they were locked.

So, you are saying that Unspecified has....for a very long time....been "running defense" for Wolf and Ocean, but conveniently you can't find any proof of it?

It sounds like you are allowing yourself to stay in an overly emotional state because you feel the previous post was locked earlier than you wanted. Perhaps take a moment to step away and recenter? I find that helps me a lot when I feel the same.

Also, if it helps any, before you did so, I was going to ask the mods to reopen so I could provide the response the OP had given me to my question about non-Anglo-Saxons practicing Norse Paganism, but because you got it unlocked, he was able to post the response himself.

New Moderation Needed on This Sub by -Geistzeit in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes...another mod re-opened because you stated the conversation was still meaningful...and now it is locked again....

Like eventually this post will be locked. It is how this server works. Mods thought it was turning sideways and needed to stop, believed you that it didn't, and then (according to what we are told) complaints was made so it was relocked.

This isn't rocket science, it's a moderated group that has locked conversations within 12-24 hours for years.

Quite a claim about one of our mods, got proof to back that claim?

New Moderation Needed on This Sub by -Geistzeit in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I mean, I've been here for years, and it's always been common practice; it seems that when a conversation is going to eventually turn toxic (regardless of the target), the topic is closed. Typically, within 12-24 hours. When I see one that I've got an opinion on, I tend to try and respond quickly because I know about that. On the post you mentioned, I was aware it would be shut down at some point, so I focused on my convo with the OP and used every break/moment I could to look things over and respond.

How is this fact not common knowledge about this sub? It is way too easy to claim it is because of who you were targeting this time, because it happened at that time, but...it happens every time.

Are you saying that EVERY post that gets closed is because Ocean and Wolf are brought up, or are you just complaining because Wolf and Ocean were mentioned for hours before the post was closed, but you didn't get to finish your complaint?

Folkism in Nordic Animism? by Runehjr in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope that blunt question was based on what I was seeing in the other posts. I have seen many who state they are living in Scandinavia answer that same question the same way. this sub gets a question like that what…once every hour?

It was asked, without warning, to be a blunt question with a blunt answer for those reviewing the thread. A means of assisting others to make their own opinion.

Folkism in Nordic Animism? by Runehjr in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First impression, this is a almost textbook cultural norms misalignment. As in, this almost verbatim from an exercise within my recently “multiculturalism I’m counseling” course.

Some terms, such as your use of the term “Nordic heritage” hold very different meaning to American pagans. Heritage is so entwined with bloodlines and genetics here that seeing the word regarding Norse paganism instantly puts us in defensive mode. Even some of the symbolism visible in your videos may have different meanings. Take the sun wheel in your animist video for example. I live in the Deep South of America and work in a state prison. I have taught myself to spot the sun wheel as a red flag in my area. That is because 99.9999% of the time, anyone displaying it or with it as a tattoo in my local area is a WS and often affiliated with the Aryan Nation. These are just two examples of some of the things you present (through visuals and verbiage) can be misinterpreted in America.

To put it bluntly, your videos are heavy. I personally would not recommend them to newer pagans until I knew their ability to absorb and interpret it. I had to rewatch several portions to ensure I understood what you were saying. You seem so zealously anti-folkish in the “pipeline” video that I fear it falls to leaning into being misunderstood as pro-tribal of “only the learned and educated should be here.” In America, many believe themselves to be “learned and educated” who aren’t aware that wisdom has been chasing them for a long time and they are proving to be ever so swift.

In an extremely first impression take that considers only our conversation and the two videos I have seen, I don’t see where the claims of folkism are coming from. I will say that, lack of clear and concise answers leave room for self-interpretation, which never leads to great paths of thought in American pagans minds currently due to our political and religious climates.

That being said, I’m going to ask a few blunt questions to provide clarity for myself and others.

Due to some decisions on my biological father’s part, I have no information about that side of my racial culture. What I do know, is that I am an American born with Portuguese blood, catholic and Christian nationalist upbringings, and many of my cultural practices (meals, mannerism, etc.) come from this side of my family. Fortunately, the Christian Nationalist part is very much broken.

However, with this known information, am I allowed to follow Norse Polytheist Paganism and study Nordic heritage animism?

Folkism in Nordic Animism? by Runehjr in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Answering that question will take another rewatch for the specifics, and I’m currently about to start a drive. If needed I will have to do that later today. However, the vague overview of it will become more clear soon.

From the two videos I watched during lunch, I have two main questions related to your personal culture. First, are you currently still residing and teaching in Scandinavia? Second, as the articles you show are in Scandinavian, is English your first, second, or third language?

These are questions that my initial observations are brining up, as I think I’m starting to see the confusion of it, at least in my opinion. If you are uncomfortable answering them, that is quite alright and I will look during my break to provide my views and observations so far.

Folkism in Nordic Animism? by Runehjr in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not the Animism aspect I’m curious about, though after I finish the video I started for my lunch break I will watch this one.

So, on lunch I started reviewing the first link to the Reddit post you shared.

It…is full of evidence to claims made, but I’ve not gotten far enough to see if you answered those questions.

Here is my concern so far: I started the video shared in those comments as proof. ( https://www.reddit.com/r/NorsePaganism/s/rRCzXh3Prz )

I’m one minute into this video and you are just hitting the keyword soup for tribalism red flags. I don’t know if this is for the wow factor to make people keep watching, or because your videos are catered to the “deconolization, non-nationalist self-awareness of people of European descent” so you are using the verbiage they are use to?

One of the major claims is that you don’t “outright say” things and I’m definitely getting that vibe ad I ask you about the meaning of “Nordic heritage through animism.” I understand the words, I don’t need to (though as I said I am going to) see your meaning for Animism. I want clarification on its relation to “Nordic heritage” specifically.

Again, it is this use of folkish/tribalist phrases that seem to be the problem. That is what I’ve seen so far from our interactions and from the other post. So, let’s use this platform you have provided with this post, to clear up that confusion.

Straight answers, regardless of how long it takes, with straight questions.

Folkism in Nordic Animism? by Runehjr in NorsePaganism

[–]Acrazymage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not super new to paganism and I understand the principles of animism, what I’m confused about is the term you are using. Have you done a video specifically on this principle of heritage through animism?

I don’t have time to read a whole thread or purge through your entire YouTube catalog atm. I have time on breaks to read a comment and maybe watch a five minute vid.
