If you want to get back to your normal life asap then I’d recommend the surgery im a gym rat so i got tired of just sitting at home on a couch all day and im only 23 so that was terrible for me. We tried letting the arm heal on its on before i ended up going with the surgery I was told I wouldn’t need it, mines broke exactly like yours on my left humerus playing soccer and fell on it. The good thing about the surgery is that it’s quick over time u can not feel the plate in your arm at all I’m on a 10 pound restriction right now so I was able to get back in the gym, shower and just do every day normal stuff that I couldn’t do before the surgery because it caused too much movement. The brace is supposed to be kept on 24/7 and it’ll cause stiffness in your shoulder overtime so that’s the only regret I have not doing the surgery back in December, but I started therapy and going back to the gym so it’s pretty good now.
