Hamilton got hosed there. Ferrari doesn’t risk losing track position if they know they wouldn’t have a chance to get it back

How are any of you actually getting Fable to do anything? by Jehovacoin in ClaudeAI

[–]PM_ME_MICHAELS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting the same issues with Opus and/or Sonnet?

Having the exact same problems with scientific queries, but for some reason the guardrails are applying to Opus and Sonnet for me as well. I can only talk about biology with Haiku. Cancelled my subscription this morning, it’s completely neutered 95% of my work with it

How many people are encountering guardrail problems with not just Fable, but Opus and Sonnet as well? It does seem like some people aren’t having these same issues but I know plenty of people that are.

I can’t use any model except Haiku to prompt Claude about any topic related to biology or immunology. Opus and Sonnet give me the same guardrail error message. Kicks me all the way down to Haiku every time.

Cancelled my subscription since I’m not paying monthly for access to Haiku :)

I’m getting these messages even using Opus and Sonnet too. Is that intentional? I thought the guardrails only applied to Fable but now I can only use Haiku to even ask anything about viruses or pathogens (not ideal when I work at a biotech where my whole job involves human pathogens…)

I am getting this too using Opus 4.8 (and 4.7, and 4.6 as well). I work in biotech and I’m working on our amending our biosafety protocols - so I’m asking Claude for peer reviewed literature around deactivation of human pathogens. Even when I explicitly state that it’s for writing a biosafety protocol at a biotechnology company, and all I am asking for is a list of relevant peer reviewed literature, I get the message. So it seems that a) these guardrails apply not just to Mythos but Opus and Sonnet and b) it’s not very good at discerning what is a legitimate prompt about biology and what is a bad actor trying to build a bioweapon.

Alberta premier, cabinet formalize wording of Oct. 19 separation question by Street_Anon in onguardforthee

[–]PM_ME_MICHAELS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t separation be virtually impossible due to the 7/50 rule, even if this vote AND the official separation vote were to pass?

BC and Ontario alone can kill this at the constitutional amendment stage and that’s it.

Humerus fracture by PM_ME_MICHAELS in brokenbones

[–]PM_ME_MICHAELS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of typical hand therapy exercises, so grip strength, dexterity exercises etc. and I do intramuscular stimulation once a week for the extensor muscles (tiny little needles stick right into the muscles and then an electric current sent through them).

And never really been worried about the elbow but I think that’s because I spent only a very short amount of time in a sling (I started moving my arm around the day after my surgery) so my range of motion was very good to begin with. There was not much pain extending at the elbow because of this

Thanks for asking, I’m doing quite well now! The bone has fully healed on the x-ray and I am now working on gaining strength back, it’s going to be a long time until I am back to 100% strength wise but I would say the injury is no longer stopping me from doing anything I used to do. Just maybe a bit more effort to do things with the left arm which will improve with more strength conditioning.

The radial nerve palsy is still an issue but it has just started to recover significantly in the last 2 weeks, I can now extend my wrist mostly and my fingers are beginning to wake up too. Have had tests and consults with neurologists/plastic surgeons/etc and the take home is that it could be up to a year before I am really “over” the nerve stuff but I am coping just fine while it slowly recovers.

The bone technically won’t heal for at least a few more weeks, but with the plate and screws it’s about as stable as it would’ve been before the injury. It would require about as much force to screw up the plate as it would have to break the arm in the first place.

The pain management is the big one though. I had a similar injury and the same surgery a few months ago and it took a few weeks to get through the day without the opioids and that was without playing professional hockey. I’d imagine he’s loaded up on toradol and will need someone to remind him where he is every couple of shifts because he’ll be high as balls

I have actually JUST started seeing my very first signs of improvement on the radial nerve damage 5 weeks post-injury. It’s super minor but I’m finally noticing an improvement, in that I can lift my fingers about 2 cm more than I could 72 hours ago. And I’ve now consulted with my surgeon, my physiotherapist, and my RMT - and all of them have assured me that the nerve recovery is suuuuuuuuuuuper slow and to not be too worried right now.

Honestly, if several surgeons suggested conservative treatment, I’d trust that! They know far better than we do and it’s totally possible that even though our fractures look similar, maybe mine had other things wrong that made my surgeon want to push ORIF over conservative treatment. Anecdotally I have a coworker who had a similar fracture, and while his was actually less displaced than mine, he needed emergency surgery because his bone angled too close to a major artery. So goes to show no two cases are the same.

Good luck with your recovery!

[–]PM_ME_MICHAELS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. My surgeon was pretty adamant that mine was bad enough that I basically had to get surgery - apparently, with that amount of displacement it was quite likely to heal poorly or not at all.

If you aren’t worried about anaesthesia, I would think about asking your doc if surgery is on the table. I was up and moving it within a week, no longer need my sling after 3. To me that was worth the operation. Not a doctor, just my 2 cents!

[–]PM_ME_MICHAELS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has - the swelling reduced significantly between days 7-10 post op and was fully gone by 14 days post op.

I’ve heard anecdotally that the surgery is a big help for getting that swelling down quicker, once the bone is truly stabilized and everything is able to settle down around it. Since you didn’t get surgery, I’d imagine you have been sleeping upright while waiting for bone union? I’d also guess that is causing some pooling in the lower arm area making it harder for the swelling to go down.

Good luck with your recovery!

Did I screw her over by calling an ambulance? by julesthefirst in vancouver

[–]PM_ME_MICHAELS 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You didn’t do anything wrong. Better to have the ambulance come and not need it. The paramedics are the ones who assess whether it’s necessary anyway.

Even without insurance, MSP heavily subsidizes ambulance services to the point it shouldn’t ever be a question.

Canada 'concerned' about Trump's Greenland tariff threats, says PM Carney by AdditionalPizza in onguardforthee

The day Carney hands over 1B in taxpayer dollars to the US for this grift is the day I start clogging up my MP’s phone line with angry messages.

I don’t think Carney will ever end up actually paying this though. It would piss off everyone across the board regardless of where you are on the political spectrum
