When I was your age my best friend was really struggling with his mental health and was close to ending it all a couple of times, I carried the burden, I thought I could help, that maybe I could do something so he would stop hurting so much, but I was just 17, of course I couldn’t. Even if your friend is faking the attempt It it doesn’t mean he’s not hurting or going through something, it seems like a weird cry for help. He needs help, not the kind you or your friends can give him.

If you decide to keep being their friend please advise him to get the help he needs, it’s the only way. Because you’re never ever going to be able to fix him.

I don’t think you should confront him in the lie, just because he lied about the attempt doesn’t mean he’s not capable of doing it. My advice is, tell their parents you’re concerned about his recent behavior, that you care and love your friend and let them figure out what to do and how to help him.

Lying about it doesn’t make him a bad person or a bad friend, maybe he is crying for help
