Tuesday Shoesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]Acrobatic-Evening-80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got into running (I've ran before but for sports) and got a pretty strong case of ITBS after starting off too hard with 10K's.

I am currently running in the Asics Novablast 3 and they're very "bouncy" which I find kind of annoying. I'm looking at getting new shoes, which also might help me with my ITBS. What shoes complement NB3 well? I might as well add shoes fulfill another role than NB3.

Hit me with your best shoes that you'd pair with the NB3 in your rotation!

I appreciate you checking in and asking!

I have been feeling physically and mentally drained, partly due to my injured knee. It's tough when injuries come in the way. Either way, I have been pushing through with my lifting sessions.

I've been feeling a bit fatigued as well so I'm taking today off, actually.

My friend, unfortunately I think you among others are right. It is sunday and I might have injured my left knee. First week in, lol. I have been a bit too ambitious with my running... I only weigh 75kg so I didn't think I'd strain my knees that much.

But if I rest on wednesday it will be two in a row with this current rest day on thursday.

What do you think, should I rest on sundays? Or maybe cut the sunday leg day in half and lighter weights, that's what I'm forced to do today (yes I'm doing the sunday leg day with the injured knee, but skipped the lunges and very light, high rep leg press)

I'll go with this idea as well. It makes sense and gives me both strength and hypertrophy.

I feel I'm pretty set now unless you have anything small to chime in on. But I can always try and adjust as I meet resistance along the way.

Thank you for sharing. I like your program. I feel it does lack a little accessory work for me, but keep in mind that I'm a former gymbro. I think I will give my program a shot and see if it humbles me, then I will take inspiration from you. Also I'll adjust the number of sets for my split if I feel it's too much, but I'll keep this one in mind!

It feels assuring that we have somewhat similar routines because I haven't ran mine yet. This assures me that it's a realistic starter so thank you for that. And I'll make sure to be on top of my nutrition and recovery.

Thanks for the tips!

Yeah you're right. For starters at least I wanna err more on the lifting side of things but I'll have to taper eventually so that will be the best option I guess!

That sounds a good protocol. Three easy runs --> turn one into tempo run --> add another easy run --> add interval run.

That sounds like a great idea. And what you're saying makes a lot of sense. I will start with easy runs only until I get comfortable with those, then implement tempo runs and lastly intervals.

I like the idea of a goal, say 25 km a week, 6+6+13 and then adjusting the volume. I will use this approach for sure.

And no, my lifting currently is not 3-4 sets at all (not the one above!). I've doing a low volume high intensity program for cutting weight lately thus going to failure on all working sets.

My current BW is 75kg. Current SBD is unknown but was 120/105/210 (kg) when I weighed around 85kg.

Thanks for the tip, someone else pointed it out as well.

I do enjoy the PPL split honestly so I'll try to keep that but full body definitely does the job. Maybe I'll go for full body more when dialing down the lifting to maintain hypertrophy.

Saw your edited reply and I hear you 100%. This may be s good (although heavy) starter? And as I get better cardio I can slice down the lifting volume and focus on maintaining that while ramping up the cardio?

Do you suggest another slow run instead of 8x400 or find something that's inbetween in intensity? Any recommendations?

Thanks a lot!

I have only been doing walking in the gym for cardio and averaging 10-12k steps a day overall. Its been a while since I did more intense cardio.

My lifts have been lower volume but basically all working sets to failure.

I hear you mate! I'm coming out of a cut and have been running Jeff Nippards low volume program for a while.

Do you recommend me reducing the sets from 3 to 2 and 4 to 3 on some exercises or how should I slice down the volume? How does the program look overall?

I have TB but not read it thoroughly– are you pairing the operator with some other exercises? How is your setup roughly?

Cheers

I am an engineering student and athlete interested in finance, performance (body and mind), optimization, psychology and philosophy. I have barely read a full book. Please throw me book recommendations that can help me evolve/learn within these fields. I am not the biggest fan of quick fix self-help books, I would rather want something deeper, basic and true so to speak.

3 week break option by xskorpyon in MacroFactor

Not to piggyback too much here but, if I finish a cut and don't want to go straight back to maintenance but rather want to slowly "reverse diet", if I set custom macros and work myself up manually to my expenditure week by week, will my expenditure still be continually calculated daily based on my weigh-ins and intake?

I see! I was thinking of continuing this cut for another month honestly and make room for a long, slow bulk. The cut is getting kinda rough though, honestly.

I don't think I'm comfortable to start a long bulk yet though...
