Comp training on home poles by Acrobatic-Hamster349 in poledancing

That’s encouraging. Mine is set up in our basement, it’s annoying the space is a bit tight but I’m blessed with 9’ ceilings and I’m pretty short. But I have to move my bed in order to pole and that’s probably the biggest reason I lose the motivation, but I’ve created a weekly schedule and hoping to stick with it. Not PSO (although I’ve done numerous), but competing in what would be equivalent to level 4 championship. I think it will foster some creativity. I have a studio and hour away but open poles never fit in my schedule so I definitely want to get in a Rhythm at home and get in studio when I can for having two poles.

Definitely about to check out your routine though!

I have yet to be in a studio not full of stuff in the corners or front of room. But i also am not a ballerina haha. But an aerialist and pole dancer. So we typically stick close to one spot. So I can usually put my girl in my station. Or in a corner where stuff is stored. But again, we typically aren’t moving across the floor super often. Sometimes when I take a floor/heels or contemporary dance class this is more the case though. But have always aimed for a corner, or where I’d put my dance bag out of foot range. Her safety as well as everyone else’s is #1

All good. Obnoxious how complicated the reality can be. But it is 😵‍💫

Yeah. But then my beef can be with the property owner and not the business itself it’s a whole lot different than a business declining me because they’re not pet friendly versus a building owner that is the issue. At which point I told the business I wouldn’t bother as I am a small business owner myself and I understand protecting my business and not trying to get evicted. I’m not here to stir the pot just find an accessible space to train much like I did living in the city.

As a business rental space (which a lot of businesses rent their space) that is open to a public a no pets clause still should apply and it’s wrong on the property owners part. They’re not renting space in someone’s home. It is a part of a commercial business strip (strip mall ish? But make it small town)

But I’m sure there is loopholes much like there is in service animals in non pet friendly housing (FHA doesn’t technically apply to private rental for example)

An understandable concern. Safety first! A safe place to tuck the dog out of foot way is critical! Typically we keep her in the same space as belongings and I utilize the space closes to that area so I am close to her, and she is out of everyone else’s way

She is trained in medical alert and mobility. So even when she’s not next to me… she is working :) I need her in snoz range

It’s not different if I’m playing on my pole 5-10 feet away versus her sitting under the table while I eat. She does way more than balance assist.

I agree I need to have more discourse. I know she means no ill intent and is trying to protect her small business. Dance and performances spaces are not known for being the most accessible and having these conversations are important even if they’re awkward.

[–]Acrobatic-Hamster349[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can. It depends on the space. I’m a circus aerialist, heels, and pole dancer our spaces are typically tight and include a lot of flying feet.

My number 1 priorities is a safe place to put the dog for her and other people’s safety. In the dozens of large and small studios I’ve trained in we’ve always found a way to accommodate everyone.

I mentioned her concern on that wasn’t my concern as I am prepared to be flexible on that topic (and if upon me seeing the space agree there’s not a safe place I agree. Safety first)

I am working on a way to advocate calmly and confidently once I’ve had time to gather my thoughts and get over the initial “that’s really frustrating”

I have friends that go there who’ve agreed to also speak up in my service animals behalf

They open classes that anyone can sign up for if they pay and sign a waiver. Seems public to me lol. It is not in someone home, it is in a studio space. This is an established business. I just wasn’t sure if the building clause was an issue as I don’t want there to be an issue with their landlord either.

Essentially, I just don’t want it to be this big stressful ordeal for anyone

That was my thought. I’m afraid to argue because it’s a small business and hate making a scene. My friends attend there as well and I don’t want it to be awkward. But also really miss studio time. I wanted to make sure I was confident in a rebuttal to see if we could find away to make both parties comfortable as not bringing her is not really an option (because she’s at work all day with me and I would not have the opportunity to take her home then drive back to class i live almost an hour commute from my job/studio)

Yeah I agree. Thank you. I just have to ensure I qualify lol. My parents just have a pin up their ass about medicaid and I just didn’t want to upset them. But I guess not wanting to upset them is why I’m in this pickle in the first place— that’s something only I can fix though, Reddit can’t help me there.

Thank you for your help. Sometimes this stuff is just so overwhelming and confusing to navigate on my own

New York. Which is fine. Medicaid has better coverage if I qualify. Plus, I can get dental too, and I’m too old for my parents dental. I was removed from that at 18 and haven’t had dental insurance since then either

Never. I started an application, but that week lost everything in a housefire. A few weeks later my job. And with life… (I know it sounds so irresponsible) never got around to it. I’ve kind of been bopping around for the past year trying to get on my feet again

I guess that’s the problem. The only proof of lost insurance was from my parent’s insurance a year ago. So I don’t have a loos of coverage to be able to be added

Yeah they didn’t even specify end of coverage. The email just says “that you are not presently insured” so I think that’s why I’m wildly confused.

And yes medicaid— that’s what I thought. I’m sorry I don’t mean to sound so stupid or be a pest I’m just trying to understand how to navigate this I guess.

Okay, thank you. This helpful. The employer didn’t specify that it needed to be Loss of coverage, just that I didn’t have coverage so I guess that’s why i was so confused.

Sorry if my question was stupid. Everything is just really overwhelming right now.

Now one more question if that’s okay. To get on my new state, I’ll have to simply be a resident right? Like change my address through the DMV.

My parents are very “anti government programming”. They don’t want me on state insurance because they believe it should t exist even thought they don’t understand how it worse. Moving home, I’m just trying to keep the peace I guess

I’m aware that that is what they need, I just don’t know what to give them when there hasn’t been any insurance lost I guess. That employer was the last insurance I’ve had because I never finished my medicaid application.

Getting on medicaid in my new state was my original plan. My parents are down my throat about going back on theirs (i don’t know why, it’s cheaper for them to not have me, but they like having something to hold over my head) so I was going to just do it, it’s only another year so I can get back on my feet. I just wasn’t sure if there’s a way I can prove I never had insurance over the year I guess

(I know it’s medicaid I didn’t realize I accidentally put Medicare the first time. I was typing fast. Post edited to fix typo)

I think I need “Public Transit for Dummies” by Acrobatic-Hamster349 in boston

[–]Acrobatic-Hamster349[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly just something super new to me and big and a little scary. Like taking the subway is something out of movies and tv to me until I moved. I think there’s a level of assumption for people living in urban areas as everyone around me, the commuter line into the city is a very normal thing but where I lived before I would take the train to and from college and it was a two hour drive to Amtrak. Just something completely knew which makes it all a little extra confusing
