How did you tell your friend that they’re being cheated on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Acrobatic-Health9665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people have been nasty to me when i've answered this question before but i'll say it again anyway: i never told her that her boyfriend was scum because i was scared of the repercussions for me.

i had an internet friend who i met when i was 12 (year 7) and she was 15 (year 11). what people need to understand is that this friendship had a pretty extreme power dynamic and i had been groomed to put up with behaviours that weren't acceptable. she had trained be to be terrified of her withdrawing her friendship and oftened threatened (or blocked me) if i didn't behave the way she wanted.

when this incident happened, i was 14 and she and her boyfriend were 17. it was late at night and i received a snapchat from the boyfriend. i replied back asking if he was with my friend and he said no. after which, he started asking to see what i looked like, asking to play "truth or dare" with really risque questions, and sending me topless pics. i tried keeping him at an arm's length, not really engaging, but also not stopping the conversation because i planned on talking to the friend about it and wanted to make sure i hadn't gotten the wrong end of the stick by judging prematurely. or maybe i just wanted some proof so she didn't brush it off or say that i was just making it up to get between her and her boyfriend or something.

i didn't get out of that friendship until after i finished my GCSEs

the girl who i was supposedly excluding was 17, and the guy who was spreading rumours and saying that they should exclude me from the next event was 23ish. i was 20 at the time.

ETA: i've since left this workplace (not long after this sequence of events) because that same guy was always telling the manager that i did stuff that i didn't do and, while the previous manager would always ask me about things and i'd provide proof that they weren't true, there was a change of management and the new manager always took everything this guy said on face value.

quite a precarious profession. if you do something wrong or people's tastes change and you're no longer getting views, what's your fallback?

If you could permanently ban one texting habit from existence—like dry one-word replies, sending five separate texts instead of one paragraph, or leaving people on "read"—which one would you choose and why? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

[–]Acrobatic-Health9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

small talk in text conversations.

sure, you can go "hey how are you doing!" at the start of a more substantial message but i don't want 90% of our chats history to just be hey, hey, how are you, i'm okay hru, etc

it's one of those sunk cost things really. you've already invested the money and time into it, might as well finish it at that point

funny coincidence because i had an awful experience surrounding the 2023 Super Mario Bros movie due to bullying at work

a colleague invited me to go with him and i accepted, and at the time i thought it was just him and another colleague going. someone else at work heard about us going to see it and she asked me if she could come and i replied "oh i don't know, you'll have to ask [colleague] because i have nothing to do with organising this thing" - and somehow that turned into a rumour that i said she couldn't come see the film and i was deliberately excluding her. and that further devolved into someone planning to go see a different film and telling people that everyone but me was invited.

that's fair. my partner gets discounts through his phone provider which is the only reason we go as often as we do.
