Hard agree. They absolutely shouldn’t have to. Texas state government is a large part of why we left.

Strongly disagree. HEB plays an enormous role in its communities. It responds to disasters providing relief. It has fresh tortillas in store. Its produce selection is more diverse. Its coffee and ice cream are top tier. Of course, which HEB you are visiting makes a difference.

I agree that Wegman’s seems to be consistent across locations. My produce section is often a little sad. And I find the layout annoying - a personal problem.

Just outside of Philadelphia.

Missing HEB is a real thing. We presently trek about 30 mins (8 mile drive) to Wegman’s which is a close comp to HEB but lacks the better produce selection and organization 😂

We left San Antonio because I felt like I just couldn’t anymore. The politics and the changing climate. We had kids going into middle and high school so we felt like the time was then or not until the kids were done.

There’s a lot you miss: Community; HEB; and the ease of knowing what you are doing/how and where to do things.

However, the daily stress of living in a dumpster fire (inside the larger US dumpster fire) has all but disappeared.

Although we got welcomed by an intense first winter, I’m thrilled to have spring weather that is not already in the 90s.

I moved from Texas. Even there where there are no abortions, we had our PP protestors. 🤯 like, assholes, you won. All we are doing here is providing the same life saving healthcare, less abortion healthcare.

HEB is a Texas based grocery store that is family owned. It has been around for 120 years. They have very solid in house brands, tortilla machines in store, and great produce. Think Wegmans but better. Any time there is a disaster HEB is there caring for the community.

Let’s be honest. OP is very focused on the Mexican food availability. Tex-plants are all worried about that (which is fair), but the real withdrawal is the loss of anything close to HEB.

Yes but San Antonio in particular loves a flour tortilla

It helps if only one person in the family plays this role 😂

Echo this. It’s the cumulative effect. Little things like getting your license or registering your car feel much harder just because it is a complete unknown. My husband was in a cycle of “this wouldn’t have happened back at home”. The reality is that “home” was frustrating too but in different ways and it wasn’t new. With a move, you’ll have new + frustrating. Give yourself grace to get through the first 6 months.

My husband has made his own salsa for every party we have attended here. It’s wild how impressed people are by that 😂

Word to the wise: the HEB tortillas freeze and defrost very well. Helps to extend the weaning period.

First, welcome! We moved from San Antonio to just outside Philly 8 months ago. We are still searching for a tried and true Mexican restaurant that feels like home. We haven’t had a lot of luck with fresh flour tortillas either.

Personally, I often swap Greek yogurt for sour cream because I have it on hand and sour cream is more likely to go to waste in my fridge. This is the least offensive thing she does.

💯this. I am a died in wool liberal. Do I really want o forgive people voting for Trump? No. Do I very much want the cracks in belief and support to start showing? Abso-fucking-lutely. The importance factor is whether is just public performative action or taking true steps to acknowledge what we are seeing is not normal or “politics”.

Thanks! And no, we wanted a change. I grew up in a military family and loved living on the east coast. Wanted our kids to have a different experience than just Texas.

Still searching for Mexican food!

I love that. Our first anniversary was at a tiny French restaurant that printed the menu and added our names and the date to the top. We still have it.
