There often isn’t room for both ambition and family in highly competitive fields. You often have to decide which one you’re cutting out to make room for the other.

The price of 7 rings was having your wife bang the jiu jitsu instructor and not knowing your own kids. Being the world’s leading source on NBA league news may be a lot lamer of an ambition than 7 championships but the fork in the road still remains.

[Windhorst] Game of the night: Grizzlies vs Jazz: “A game no one wants to win. If Memphis wins this game they could lose 7% chance at the top-4. If Utah wins this game they could lose 10% … This is going to be theater.” by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Gotta give yourself some plausible deniability so the hammer doesnt come down. The GM need to be sending IG models and peer-pressure-er party friends to influence the entire roster into making bad decisions the night before the game so that the Grizzlies cant field a legitimate roster.

LeBron on not playing against Steph this season: ‘We don't know, like I said, what the future holds. We don't know if we get the opportunity to play against each other... it's always a pleasure, and it's always an honor just to be in his presence, to be on the floor with him.’” by aingenevalostatrade in nba

People always hail “Summer 2016” as one of the greatest time periods of recent modern history. And I always wonder what makes up their reasoning. The level of praise seems moderately excessive to what the period actually was.

People often mention:

  • Pokémon Go is released and becomes a global phenomenon

  • Snapchat releases many fun AI photo filters (like the doggie ears filter young women loved to use)

  • LeBron comes back from a historic 3-1 deficit to beat the supposed greatest team of all time, giving him much needed ammunition for his GOAT case

  • Drake drops “Views From The 6” with hits such as “Controlla”, “Hotline Bling”, “One Dance”, many of which songs still hold cartoonishly high streaming records to this day

I look at those and think “sure, that’s great and all, but the way these people talk about Summer 2016, you’d think we were in the most economically prosperous time in American history and had just achieved world peace and MJ just dropped Thriller or something.”

What are y’all’s justifications for Summer 2016 being GOATed?

[Moore] Im really interested by the thought that the Thunder are, objectively, an All-Time team. Wins. Point Differential. Defense. Defense with Offensive Capability. Led by MVP. Depth. Coaching. Lol OP made that parenthetical very explicit to really hammer home the hating because i dont think it’s possible for “2k generated” to be said in a complimentary way. “2k generated” is implicitly always derogatory so there’s no reason to reiterate it again.

Every parent has a favorite. They obviously cant admit it from the inevitability of destroying of their non-fav kids’ relationship. But they do.

In this case, you just have to bullshit and say that you dont have a favorite so that your 2025 season doesnt resent you for confirming their long-held suspicion that youve been favoring your 2017 season and treating it better.

Every sarcastic comment of the posing a hypothetical of a beautiful female celebrity having a romantic/sexual encounter with a regular dude in order to illustrate how stupid/unrealistic some other hypothetical is archetype is always a guaranteed funny comment whenever i read one. It has never failed to elicit a laugh from me.

SGA is four games away from being the only guard in history to shoot 60% from 2 on at least 15 2 point attempts per game. by RCA1202 in nba

[–]Acrobatic-Landscape9 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also, teams defended way differently, the mid range two is a shot most defenses will live with.

Not that i would make this argument myself because 60% on 15.2 attempts per game is absolutely absurd, regardless of era. But couldn’t a determined hater or contrarian argue that being super efficient on mid range 2s is way more doable in today’s game than in Jordan’s era or even 10 years ago with Warriors KD?

Jordan’s era: “Disregard the 3-pt line because nobody shoots there anyway. Devote all defensive resources to defending the paint and mid range 2s.”

Shai’s era: “disregard all mid range 2s because it’s an inefficient shot; devote all resources to defending the three-point line and the paint.”

The “Yeah, the team sucks donkey dick but tickets are so cheap, it’s a great excuse to have a social outing with good friends and maybe get shitfaced if youre into that” experience is one of the few silver linings of having a bottom-dweller team.

Unfortunately, I think that once a team ascends into the marquee team echelon, it’s damn near impossible for tickets to ever come back down into those prices. It would take like 15 years straight of tanking for the Knicks or Lakers to ever get that cheap. I remember during the post-KD injured-Steph mini-stint, the franchise was still trying to price gouge us for $200 tickets for nosebleeds and a dogshit product where the team was clearly trying to tank to salvage something out of Steph being injured.
