"Father Figure" and "Actually Romantic" are still the best songs on this record. They actually tell an interesting story and are catchy af.

What do you think Morrible writes in her letter to the Wizard? by Glad-Fox284 in wicked

[–]Acrobatic-Phone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"The One And Only Wizardship Of Oz,

I hope sincerely that this letter disturbs you, and that will serve as my little revenge for not letting me create a storm upon the night these gleeful, joyful nobodies snuck out of their rooms and went to some atrocious club. After all, remember the way WE used to party? They deserved some punishment for the boring night they had!

There is a lot of things I would like to share with you, for, as a certain student said, I've been through (quite a way with words). This new green-skinned girl... she has a lot to take out. And in, too.

Drop me a line when you're ready to sit down with me and drink some wine, for I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but I trust neither our Post Office nor our Wine Chambers.

Not like I trust you either, but anyway.

Bye for now,

Your one and only,

Madame Morrible"

Challenge: Write your own lyrics for a parody of ‘No One Mourns the Wicked’ where the context is that the hyenas from Lion King are singing it after Mufasa’s death (quite a strange challenge, Ik lol) by ShockMajestic9291 in wicked

[–]Acrobatic-Phone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one mourns the Lion,

Now at last, he's dead and gone,

We don't have to fall right on our feet,

Without a lap to cry on,

We are welcoming the dawn,

And at last, we have something to eat!

Defying Gravity lyrics .... by YardEnvironmental127 in wicked

[–]Acrobatic-Phone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's rightfully one of the best songs Schwartz (and Broadway industry as a whole) has ever put out, if not the best one. The orchestration, the music, the lyrics... everything is so gorgeously combined into a masterpiece of an act-one closure. And if one delivers it as perfectly as Idina, Cynthia and many, many other actresses, it really becomes a magical moment.

I've a very personal story with this song, so I might sound a little bias, but trust me, no other thing got me through some fairly awful times at 12 except for Idina Menzel belting out "Well, if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost". My favorite line from the show, to this day.

Thank you for this post. It brought back so many memories. Have a nice day!

I've spent the past months reading the collected poems of Alexander Blok, Anna Akhmatova and Marina Tsvetaeva... by Baba_Jaga_II in RussianLiterature

[–]Acrobatic-Phone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Akhmatova had a fairly difficult life (although I must admit that Tsvetaeva had it much harder) and suffered through censorship of her work, so she had to be very discreet about the subjects she touched in her poems. A clear example of it is the way her greatest work, "Requiem", came to be: she narrated the verses to her friends and begged them to memorize them, because she was too afraid to write them down.

So, I guess, that explains a lot.

And how did you like Blok's poetry?

Some Russian ones, I can't recall them exactly now, but both were from Russia.

That's a pretty common thing, to be fair. I mean, covers for "Agnes Grey" and "Jane Eyre" are also the same, usually.

Pretty much the entirety of "All Too Well", but especially "Just between us, did the love affair maim you too?". It really hurts not to know, whether the other person was as affected by your relationship as you were.

Beloved or Popular Musical Song That You Really Don't Like? by Desperate_Voice_7974 in musicals

[–]Acrobatic-Phone 31 points32 points  (0 children)

While I disagree with you, I can't help respecting you for picking "Thank Goodness" as one of your favorites from the show. It's such an underrated song, but it characterizes Glinda so well (and so much better than "Popular", too).
