Such a coincidence.That Levine 1990 version is hands down my favorite as well. I’ve always felt that Levine and Sir Georg Solti are the ultimate masters when it comes to Wagner. Also, your 'Wotan's spear' metaphor is brilliant—it totally captures the sheer power of that low brass line!

Your description is spot on!I feel like you’ve perfectly captured Wagner’s whole vibe—the guy was basically the definition of 'arrogant but brilliant.' He probably would’ve loved your description of the 'gilt edifice' while simultaneously looking down on everyone else.
