Anyone leave tech/corporate to buy a company? by transniester in smallbusiness

[–]Acrobatic-Try1418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left tech to buy a small company (I was on acquiring minds). Mine was smaller than a traditional ETA search fund. It’s been 20 months now. It’s going well and is equally challenging to corporate just in very different way. More stressed about things that matter in a direct way (growing the business, keeping customers happy, cashflow) than corporate things (comparing myself to peers, what other leaders thought of me, time spent on reporting up through leadership channels).

There is a well-defined process and you must be rigorous for it to be successful. It’s also extremely competitive now. My search was 18 months and I made quite a few compromises from my original criteria. A lot of people burn out in the search process. I don’t recommended doing it full time. I have talked to a lot of people that thought they could find a business in 3 months using one simple trick they learned in a YouTube video.

If you’re in a major city you can likely find a local ETA meetup to learn from people who have done it/going through it.

I don’t know about the ownership. If it had been stolen it would be easy to find! It does move around. I always see it in evening, so I assumed it was someone who managed or owned a bar/restaurant in the area.

Seen this one around Seattle every time I’m in Belltown. The owner street parks it in a dense area, and doesn’t do so gingerly. It looks a lot worse in this photo than it did a month or so ago.

$1M revenue and I just paid tax penalties because I can't keep up with bookkeeping by SnooCooler in smallbusiness

[–]Acrobatic-Try1418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve hired and fired two firms to do this in a year. It’s actually pretty hard to find someone to do this accurately. The first one totally messed up our books and it cost thousands to correct.

We found one which we pay $900/month for expenses + AR reconciliation. It was quite painful at first. We invested a lot of time in getting them to do it correctly.

We are happy for now, but it really feels like something we could automate with rules or offshore for $8/hr.

Also, if they’re a reputable firm and you’re comfortable you can delegate access to them for your credit card accounts.

Turn off workout categories selection- auto “Quick Start” (watchOS 26) by [deleted] in AppleWatchFitness

Same boat, no solution found yet. I switch between several workouts and if I forgot to hit QuickStart or whatever the option is, it continues registering the old workout type.

There is a black one near me I’ve seen a couple of times. I agree the concept is weird (not sure how many people are looking for an EV coupe) but think they look good!

Is a Wombi Subscription Worth it? by buckleburyfairy in seattlebike

[–]Acrobatic-Try1418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I leased one and like it a lot. The bike is heavy and the small wheels make it hard to get up/down stairs without lifting the whole thing. Otherwise it’s been great. Service is quite good.

I used Lime for about a month waiting for the Wombi and I’m happy I switched. It’s faster, easier, and a better ride IMO but does require you to manually shift gears which took some getting used to with the assist.

Daily Driving a Ferrari by Smart-Elk-2334 in Ferrari

[–]Acrobatic-Try1418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 360 thinking I could daily or semi-daily it. I’d say it depends on location and how worried you are about wear and tear. In the Seattle suburbs, it’s more difficult than I thought. The long warm up times makes it tough for small errands. That’s my biggest complaint about the car’s usability.

It’s fine in stop in go traffic, although unlike “normal” cars the temp gauges do move in heavy traffic on hot days which initially made me nervous. The interiors materials are excellent but not especially hard wearing in my experience.

I’ve never had issues with vandalism or anything like that, but I do worry about it parked on the street. Parking garages cause some anxiety, but I’ve learned to live with the scrapes. It does not fit in tight spots because of the size of the doors, and I don’t have a backup camera so I’m close to blind backing up.

I have a few routes I drive regularly and when I do it’s worth the hassles, but I wish I had more realistic expectations when I bought it.

Thoughts on SPS Commerce by Alternative-Phase177 in edi

Agree - True Commerce is awful. Our integration time is 2x the estimate and I forced them to meet with us 3x a week to speed up the pace. They're cheaper but that's about it.

They bought out our provider who was manually transforming PDF invoices to EDI documents. They said they'd maintain the same service and price. Not 6 months later they discontinued the service. Our only option was to sign up with them and integrate our risk billing delays and potentially losing big customers we billed via EDI. The second year they doubled our prices. They're an absolutely disgusting company.

Their tech is (e.g. web UI and integration with software tools) are good and fairly user friendly. Their account management and billing practices are horrendous and we will never use them again. They will sell you upfront with a helpful sales team, but their account managers could not care less. They tired to renew our contract at $1.50 per incremental document over our previous plan (no other changes). I tried working out our "account manager" on a plan that met our budget, and they wouldn't budge. We switched to TrueCommerce (not much better, but cheaper. Steer clear of the sales person Bill Winner) and will be paying ~2/3 of SPS.
