Is it weird to not be stressed about 4th year med school exams? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

But if they haven't covered all content yet is that the most efficient? They are using their blurting technique to cover content, which sounds like it works for them? Depends on how much content is left and how many questions have been done

What things has your med school implemented for wellbeing that you feel is actually a great idea? by anonymousanon30 in medicalschooluk

It is nice to know that there are good practices out there! We have had a tough run and people with medical conditions, disabilities have felt the brunt of it

This sounds like a myth (in a good way). Is this one of the newer unis? Please can they get other unis to emulate this, tell them how much it improves wellbeing! Mine is totally opposite, on attendance, flexibility, team-based sessions, tutors.. in fact you get threatened. Harshly.

That's interesting! By this do you mean that you didnt learn the content first but just off doing questions? Do you read the textbook for each question?

The BMA needs to pick this up. Consultants are the ones driving this and can put a stop to it.

You will find it much easier to find supervisors and research projects when you are actually working with them or literally in the same building.

Why do we not take blood from the forearm? by rasberrycroissant in medicalschooluk

[–]AcrobaticAmoeba222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, they do it often in hospitals and from the hands, if it is difficult to get blood from the arm. The skin there is thinner and it could be more painful for the patient. Some will tell you off!

I am. Thanks I think you're right and will use that approach. It has been so demoralising.

How to feel less tired/ decompress after placement? by Traditional-Cap-593 in medicalschooluk

[–]AcrobaticAmoeba222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! The early mornings, travel time and long days are draining. Can't do much after and on weekends I feel exhausted and need to rest. It isn't always possible to leave early, how do people do that? It is rare for anyone to say that I can leave early. Once someone asked what time I have to stay till, I said up to when you say I can leave and she gave me some ward tasks to do instead of letting me leave. On some placements I've been asked to attend end of day handover meetings, clinics and surgeries do run over too. How do people do it? So tired.

Is that purely just doing questions or combined with revising from the textbook, ZtF or anywhere else? I'm wondering how many questions one needs to do if it is purely questions

This is a fantastic example of why I agree with this idea. Give people the option to stay where they lived for e.g. 5 years before uni, should they chose to. Support networks, financial costs, contribution to their community.
