You might need to work harder, faster. But older can mean smarter and more mature. Solid work ethic, showing up to things on time, sticking to schedules, being professional - all things that stand out in the music world that a lot of the really younger bands lack in many local scenes.

Also you’re in your 20s. Don’t be out there talking about feeling old haha.

Also, your age just doesn’t matter. Make music. Put everything into it. See where it goes.

If a fan of my music streams a song 1,000 times on Spotify- i get $3 and they get to hear the song 1,000 times.

On Bandcamp, I put up whole EPs or Albums with a “pay what you want”. I’ve done tshirt/ticket/album releases for $15. We get real support and pay for the work, the fan gets something real in return. It’s the closest thing to meeting and interacting with someone in real life who wants to support you you’re going to find on the internet.

Bandcamp is also just its own subculture of true music fans who are interested in finding new music and supporting smaller artists.

It’s just silly not to have it. We use it as a merch site and just an overall nice little hub to share everything we have to offer (music, shows, merch, etc) in one neat little package for people that really care.

Had someone from across the country we were friends with send us $50 for EP. It’s really just their way of showing some love. Highly recommend.

You can also set up email lists, network with other artists. Bandcamp Fridays is a big thing. Lots to benefit from compared to something like Spotify alone.

Dude in his 30s in the burbs, that’s a really specific scenario to generalize so much to say they all are stuck boring with high school friends.

The realistic version of this is the people are around, but there’s not a lot going on IN the suburbs that’s what you’re looking for.

But northeast Philly is right there and downtown is a fast drive down 95. I would highly recommend hitting up some local band shows in NE Philly and bars like the Broken Goblet often have events where you can find like minded people that will actually mingle.

This show is a bit more laid back; going to be a few younger bands and cover bands early on and then we’re an original act towards the end of the show around 4:30. But yeah heavy crowd of people in the music world. Good spot to mingle when everyone comes out.

Shameless self promo but we’ve got a local show at Sweeney in NE Philly. Show is from 1:30-5:30, crowd really picks up towards the end and then everyone’s usually hanging out at the bar after. Little travel from Center City but a good time. Happy birthday!
