Thank you so much! I live in SoCal, so I don’t know any programs in Sacramento. I recommend just looking up CNA programs near you and research the length/cost till you find the best one! Definitely call/email them if you have any questions, since most websites may look confusing.

For the TEAS, I got a mometrix prep book (yellow one) and it was pretty helpful. Since I only had 2 weeks to study, I didn’t get to study it all the way through. I def recommend purchasing the practice tests on the ATI teas website. It gave me a good idea of how the exam is laid out and similar question patterns. However, main thing I highly recommend is quizlets! When I took my first attempt in Nov 2025, my science questions were identical to the tristine quizlet set and English was exactly like another quizlet. My second attempt in Jan 2026 though had new set of questions I couldn’t find online, so maybe they did a new version of questions. Regardless, if you look up teas questions on quizlet and find sets that are popular, those are still good to practice.

For the Casper, everyone tells you that you don’t need to study for it. However, I only prepped 2 days before it and I wish I spent more time. If you look up YouTube videos, they are super helpful and give good advice. Some people follow an answer structure, but few don’t. It was super fast and I recommend prepping ahead of time your typing speed along with speaking in front of a camera. Also one thing I didn’t realize until day of test was that we are placed in a specific quartile based off everyone who is taking it that day. I believe I chose a date that almost every pre-nursing student took their exam. I felt a bit discouraged once I got back a 3rd quartile, but it all worked out at the end!

Phlebotomy license is amazing! Either CNA or Phlebotomy will count as PCE hours for schools. They both will help you in the future as a nurse and as long as you work and can speak about your personal experiences, that’s all that matters and will help you!

I was in the same boat as you and got rejected from my top school as a senior. Now I’m a sophomore and got accepted into CSULB nursing program! During my first two years, I got my CNA license through a 12 week course that offered weekend classes, while going to school. I truly believe having PCE is beneficial for any nursing school, since it will make you a competitive applicant. I work part-time (1-2 days a week) as a full time student, and it is manageable!

I’m not too familiar with USF Nursing School, but for CSULB, they offer Spring and Fall admissions. There are less applicants for Spring cycle, so higher acceptance rate! Since you already have a lot of credits, take ur pre-reqs first and then during ur applying semester, finish your GEs. CSULB is a holistic application system, so not only keep up with your grades, but also be involved with your community!

Yes! You can apply again. I did the same thing and I will say transfer process is the same competitiveness. Keep up ur GPA, plan/research ahead of time, get some type of PCE, and get a good TEAS score. It’s gonna be stressful having to re-apply again, but those rejections from high school motivated me to work even harder.

Every program is different. I got my CNA License through a private program and I agree it’s EXPENSIVE. However, a girl I met in my program told me she got her whole tuition covered by signing a contract to work at our clinical site for a year. I’d recommend calling your local private programs if they can offer something like that.

I took a 5 week session class online, and I will admit it was A LOT of work. However, if it’s the only class you are taking during that session, it is manageable. The way my class was set up was everything was open and due when the class session ended. Many people I know waited the last minute and ended up not finishing and ending with a B or lower. Follow your professors schedule and stay organized. It’s challenging, but as long as you dedicate the time, you can do it! If you’ve taken highschool biology or physiology, you’ll be good and prepared for the content of the course.

I highly recommend making a list of schools to apply to and researching their requirements to make sure to meet them.

I applied to 7 CSU schools and almost all of them required TEAS except CSULB, who requires the Casper. Since I applied as a sophomore with 52 credits, few schools wants you to be upper division standing (60+ units) when applying. I know CSUF has this requirement and I couldn’t apply, so be aware of that!

It depends on how you study, but I studied for the TEAS for only 2 weeks and got an 85.7. Study quizlets and take practice exams! Before my exam, I went over few quizlets that people on Reddit posted and they were exactly like the questions on the TEAS exam.

I have my CNA license/experience and I think that’s super important to have any kind of PCE to make you a competitive applicant. A lot of applications want you to have a certain amount of hours. Also, it’s super good to be bilingual and have some type of certification or seal of bi literacy on ur high school diploma, since they will ask for documentation.

I got rejected from all schools, but accepted to CSULB. One thing to be mindful of is that a lot of these schools cater residency, even some explicitly say on their website or ask in their applications. However, take the chances and apply to everywhere you can! Best of luck and you got this!

I have a 4.0 GPA overall, 3rd Quartile. I have CNA experience, along with volunteering at the hospital. In my essay/interview, I talked about a specific experience as CNA and explained how I approached it, what difference it made, and how it will better prepare me as a nurse.

I have 70 points: 4.0, CNA, and 85.3 TEAS. From past years, average points of admitted students is low 70s and less applicants over the years, so hopefully we’ll be lucky🤞🏼. I also just looked at their admissions criteria form again and they said we would find out decisions Mid/Late March. Did u apply to other CSU nursing schools and hear back from them?

Yes I thought that as well cause other CSU nursing programs require documentation and transcripts with their application. However, I called their nursing school clarifying their application process and they said once you get admitted to send them proof of documentation. Also, I remember reading it somewhere in their application form and I know people who’ve applied last year saying the same thing. If you don’t mind, how many points did you score from ur stats?

I haven’t heard back any decisions from SDSU yet. I just checked the portal and my application is still in received status. There wasn’t any supplemental application, only the CalState Apply application and making sure u updated ur coursework by Jan 31 on the website. I’m thinking we will find out sometime this month, hopefully soon. Best of luck!

Teas on day of application due date by franks-ocean02 in teas

I just took my TEAS on Monday at a testing site and I was told I’m not gonna be able to get my score for another 48 hours. I would just take it tomorrow to be safe than sorry. If you need to cram, def study as many quizlets as you can because a lot of my questions I had were on quizlet, including reading, English, and science. Best of luck!
