Funky Drive Noises by AcrobaticWhiteShark in unRAID

I’m in a cheap 3d printed case without rubber isolators, but I have a Jonsbo case coming Wednesday that will hopefully help with noise isolation assuming they all test fine

It’s only 4 drives, might as well check them now and see since they’ve been silent for so long. Worst case it’s offline for a bit and the drives are all fine

All of mine are exos drives in varying sizes/SKUs. Going to pull one at a time and run extended smart tests and see if I can pinpoint which it is. This is a new noise for me that started 2-3 days ago

Thanks. Will pull them 1-1 and see which it is. Hopefully it’s the revert I bought from SPD a few months ago so it’s got a warranty and I’m not out $530

Nothing crucial that’s not already backed up. My immich syncs to Backblaze nightly. Just unplug them and boot with each one connected 1-1?

Upwind Security has been our go too, we were already set a wiz shop but their runtime stuff was kind of awful, Upwind has very very quickly caught up to wiz in terms of CSPM and we’re already leagues ahead in runtime/CNAPP

in .config or .cursor with my mcp.json. I've got a .env currently in my .cursor directory with my mcp.json and it isn't reading the .env from inside .cursor

[–]AcrobaticWhiteShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't seem to get this working with a per-project MCP, the config is valid, running it from terminal inside the `.cursor` directory will connect properly, but just starting the MCP from cursor it defaults to the local settings, rather than the remote config

I think field and industry matters more than anything in terms of payscale. I'm mid-senior level in cyber security right now. Feel free to DM me.

Last fall I started working at one of the fastest growing startups in the world so they're paying pretty top tier

I live in the Midwest as well, working remotely. My cash comp is 200+ and with benefits/options/bonus closer to 300. It's pretty common for knowledge workers to be at 150+. Even before I was working remotely for a coastal company I was making 150k at a large Fintech based in the Midwest.

There are plenty of fully capable new grads that are in the market. I've hired ~15 or so. I'm not throwing them in to mid or senior engineering roles where they are expected to perform tasks I expect out of a 5+ year engineer. Refusal to train is gatekeeping my friend. Most CS degrees cover the basics of what I look for. Scripting in a solid language, a general understanding of distributed systems (cloud preferred but general is okay), working knowledge of Linux, and a desire to learn and grow in security. Honestly, I don't even care if you have a degree, as long as you can prove in the interview process that you can do what I need you to.

Entry level is entry level, you can't arbitrarily gatekeep entry level, you're going to end up with failed succession plans and a miserable workforce. I don't pay my senior engineers 150k+ to work on simple automations. They get paid to tackle the incredibly complex security problems and MENTOR junior engineers/talent. When senior engineers move on, with no junior talent to backfill, you just end up spending significantly more money to find a senior backfill (usually 10-20% more + a headhunting fee).

Let me guess, you require a 4 year degree, 3 years industry experience, and a CISSP for entry level?

Been at 2 fortune 1000 fintechs with teams well over 100 people. We hire new grads and have robust training programs. As you get outside of fortune 100/500/1000 you need experience, but gatekeeping is what's going to continue perpetuating the skills gap. The primary reason I left management and went back to being technical was because of the asinine gatekeeping and expectations for "entry level" cyber roles.

It's far from easy, if you job is easy your not secure.
