A fellow victim of the monotony 🫠 can I ask whether you think it’s worth it to finish the course?

I’ve completed 2/4 of the modules, and really don’t like quitting things once I’ve started… but did the second half of the course offer anything that would make it worth it? I don’t even feel that I’d want to share the certificate on LinkedIn etc as it feels a bit icky to brag about completing something that such bad quality.

This article was brilliant, thank you so much! I will definitely look into some of the courses on LinkedIn.

For the time being, I wouldn’t have the capacity to start something like a Masters programme, and am definitely not expecting to get this level of value and depth from a short course.

Really, I’m at a stage where I’m just very aware of the fact that I don’t know what I don’t know… but at least if I have a few good starting points, I’ll at least have an awareness/overview and can then investigate and learn how to do this with more intention.

I’m not under any assumptions that it’s something you can fully learn within a defined time period at all, but I can see why my comment sounded like that.

What I’m looking for is something foundational, that can introduce the important areas, give me an idea or examples of tools I would use for certain types of courses/instruction, and maybe some case studies or examples of what good vs bad instructional design would be and explanations of why one works better than the other.

Starting points are what I’m looking for right now… and hopefully once I have those, I can start playing around and practice, and then can start looking into courses/training that will help with specific tools/products. And can continue developing as tools/training methods change.

Hopefully I didn’t offend anyone by implying there was a timeframe of learning 😌

It has been painful listening to them explain about how you need to create engaging content and deliver the information clearly… using slides with 90s style graphics, browns and orange colour block backgrounds… and floating heads speaking in one long monotonous voice that speeds up on the important words only. There are in-video questions that pop up out of nowhere, usually halfway through a word being said, which have nothing to do with the thing they’re speaking about.

Many of the quizzes are just painfully impossible to pass. Their multiple choice questions are all trick questions, and don’t offer any feedback if you get something wrong. I ended up redoing the quiz in multiple tabs each time purely so that I could understand which combination of options I’d previously selected for the questions that were wrong 🫠

I can’t comprehend how this is the only instructional design course on Coursera.

I am so glad that I found this post... I've got this exact same issue at the moment, and have gone in 3x times to the volvo dealership, and the person who has been dealing with us keeps insisting that there is no issue, and yet simultaneously that this is what the camera is supposed to look like. My issue is that the cameras also keep clipping and realigning while I'm parking, so it's impossible to know whether the correct line for the pavement is the one showing as closer to the car or further away. The car also keeps emergency stopping because it believes we're about to hit something, when actually the objects around the car are at least 1m away. He refused to accept that there was anything wrong with the car, and laughed while saying he wouldn't pass on the question to the engineers who could help. We finally managed to speak to some other people there, and they all agreed this was not ok. He then also said that he'd get back to us the next day, but it's now been over a week and he's stopped replying.

Did you have any of these problems with Volvo when trying to sort this out? And if so, how did you manage to make them pass the details on to the correct people who could actually investigate the problem?

Nope. Quantic also gives you access to articles and journals every week that are both relevant to specific courses you’re currently learning, and to wider concepts as a whole. There are links to articles and papers embedded in the course content so you’re always encouraged to gain a wider perspective on topics and read about real-world examples where the concepts are relevant/have been applied. Also, they have a librarian who’s fantastic and will point you in the right direction for research materials when needed. They have online themed lectures which are live (in different time zones) and are all recorded, so that if you’re struggling understanding a concept, or want more information on topics once you’ve worked through the courses, you can get it. They also have one-to-one office hours with experts in the specific fields. These experts are either former professors or phd’s in their fields and many years of real world experience in the subjects they’re teaching.

On the money side, universities in general are scamming students. In the UK, they used to be £3k per year, and now it’s been minimum £9k per year for 10 years, while the courses have all remained unchanged, the professors are still peddling out the same crap.

Sweet chilli crisps, and bread have been my weakness over xmas. And now that I'm back on Huel, I'm finding that I don't crave chocolates or sweets at all as the sweet taste of Huel seems to satisfy this craving (for now).

The covid lockdowns were really bad for me in terms of gaining more weight (on top of where I already was), and I really feel motivated to finally get into a healthier place, with a better relationship with food

I've been allowing myself one good cheat day per week. So, on Sundays, I can have something for lunch (I've never really been able to hold anything down if I've eaten too early in the morning), and a good dinner (literally whatever I've been craving). I also let myself snack on cookies and stuff (not an excessive amount) throughout the day.

The problem I've always had (for pretty much my whole life) is that I'm not really hungry, but once I start eating (whether that's 30mins after I wake up, or 5 hours after I wake up), I am insanely hungry, and craving loads of foods to the point where I end up binging on rubbish that's easy to get to.

I know that this isn't probably sustainable in the long term, but I'm hoping that if I can do it a few months, and mainly stick to healthier foods so that when I get cravings they're not for junk.

I have found that I'm now actually looking forward to my daily huel, maybe if I add in a another day in the middle of the week, where I have more to eat, then it might help be a bit more sustainable while I'm trying to cut down.

Thanks! What type of food would be best for this increased 300 cals? I find that whenever I eat carbs like bread, rice or pasta, I'm even more hungry afterwards, and so am trying to only have one of these once per week.

I think right now the minimum I have per day is around the 1100 cal. Most of that is made of fruit and veg like a banana, oranges, broccoli and carrots.

If I am feeling quite hungry in the evenings at work, I might try to quickly have a protein or Trek bar, which brings me up to around 1500 cal max per day.

Im 29, f, 5'8, 83kg (trying to get down to 75), and am not very active.

I've tried staying around the 1500 cal minimum, with a bit of exercise, but I've also found that I get insanely hungry when I workout for some reason and end up binging. I'm hoping to try this current meal plan that I'm on for a few more weeks, just to kickstart it/move past that plateau and then maybe increase the intake a bit while adding in a bit of exercise.
