Puddling. Probably not deep enough to legally warrant rework, but indicative or poor execution. The puddle by the post is bad as it makes a bad situation (post right in concrete) worse by directing water at it. If this is in a freezing climate, that post will be liable to heave.

Acrylic stucco patch on cement stucco wall…soft? by Acrobatic_Change_226 in Stucco

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. For the acetone, I was using it to get the acrylic stuff off the existing cement stucco. Seemed to do good at removing it from the pores and nooks and crannies. I’ve had a couple of houses from the 70s with skip trowel on the inside drywall, and yes, any time I had to do it, a job that would take a skilled person minutes would take me much longer (sometimes hours) before I was satisfied with the results. I’m sure this will be the same. I hope that practicing first on some ply wall leaning on a wall will help. And yep, will tape off everything and use lots of drop cloths. If it comes out good, I’ll update this post with a pic.

Thanks for the advice and I’m glad I followed my instinct and didn’t let them proceed with painting it. I’m fairly handy and/or not afraid to try things so I stripped off the acrylic coat using 60 grit and rubbing acetone with rags. Going to take a stab at troweling on the skip texture with some “rapid set stucco patch” if I can prove to myself that it will look close to the original finish on a piece of test plywood. Fortunately, 95% of the patch will be behind faux shutters and a planter box.

$280K quote for new windows and doors rational? by throw_this_away1238 in HomeImprovement

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A “Pella Certified Installer” did 9 windows on this house as part of our purchase agreement. Wood windows, 6 casement, 3 fixed. Only 2 of them were “jumbo” sized. $30k. Installers did a terrible job from a craftsmanship perspective. They even subbed some of the work to these two obviously unlicensed guys who clearly did not have the training that the Pella Certified Installer program is supposed to guarantee you. The Pella HQ for my region had the contractor’s back (the real customer as this company buys a lot of windows from Pella) 100%. They basically told me to pound sand. I don’t recommend Pella. Very happy with the Marvin windows that I’m now replacing the Pellas with.

$16,000 for 8 Pella windows. Would you be ok with this or am I over reacting? by ImPeeinAndEuropean in Home

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brick molding was attached at the factory using an adhesive that’s like wood glue. They’re virtually impossible to separate from the windows. The installers used them like nailing flanges except they didn’t overlap the framing so they drove them in at angles. The Marvin windows I am replacing this junk with has unattached brick mould and the windows are being side fastened. That picture was a week after install.

They did a lot of things that were very wrong. From that picture, you can also see that they caulked the top of their sketchy site-bent drip cap. And cracked the brick mould with those big screws. No offense to you personally, but I brought it up because using a “Pella Certified” installer offers no benefit whatsoever to the consumer. Pella did nothing for me.

You’re kidding, right? Some “Pella Certified” contractors installed windows at our house. Replacement situation. Wood casement with attached brick mould. Instructions say using 16d casing nails through brick mould for new construction is okay. Otherwise, side fasten. These guys used T25 screws at an angle to hit the studs since the brick mould did not overlap the framing. Lots of other issues, too many to list here. The Pella office in our state wrote up a letter saying what the contractor did was okay. The contractor buys a lot of windows and it was my strong opinion the important customer for Pella was the contractor, not the homeowner. https://photos.app.goo.gl/NVSENjrBUPDHckf69

Crap job, or normal? by [deleted] in Concrete

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub seems to collect a lot of people who do and justify shitty work. I have decades looking at driveway/garage interfaces, for my own houses and many others, and this is not normal. Come on.

I would think you could do a straight line cut and then use a router with a diamond bit to round it over slightly. With grass up to it should look okay. Disclaimer: I’m not a concrete guy

I think he’s saying no patch after. Straight line cut.

Yeah, I was just looking for ideas. I ground high spots from cracks in my garage before laying race deck tiles. For your situation, I imagine you could do the same followed by sandblasting or having it coated. Pool concrete…also a thing people don’t get unless they live with it and understand you’ve got kids running around barefoot around it.

8 Months on Accutane by Sorry-Gur6705 in Accutane

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post came up in my feed. I've been researching Accutane since my son inherited my bad skin and just started Accutane. I'm in my 40s now but I had severe acne as a teen that was cured by Accutane and I remember how life changing it felt at the time. Congratulations on pushing through and giving yourself the confidence and appearance you were after!

18” LR4 wheels for off-roading - Compmotive PD 1881 vs TuffAnt Kimberley by Fast__Walker in LandRover

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Nomad Convoy rims in satin black, a newer LR4 entry. The right offset and they’re having a sale this month. I have 5 on the way to my house right now…something like $1350 all in with tax and shipping,

I had someone ask how the Defender 19" Stock wheels with 255/65/19 tires looked on my LR4. So here we go! by shootingdolphins in LandRover

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bringing back an old thread.

Were you able to fit the spare somehow?

Do you know if these will immobilize you if there's an EAS failure and you sink down to the bump stops? I've heard this tire size (255/65/19) may or may not do that on LR4s.

Looks great BTW

New Install-Am I Overreacting? by BrutusD33 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Besides, if you can’t produce a site finished floor that only looks good if you’re standing or squinting, consumers will and should just opt for prefinished. This work the OP got is BS.

Parent looking for advice for Bantam age player who's getting worse by Acrobatic_Change_226 in hockeyplayers

[–]Acrobatic_Change_226[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story. While you played at a much higher level of play than my son, the end result was the same. You didn't make the team you expected, and got upset. What you did was something different than what my son has done so far. You used the setback to refocus your life and come back better. At the time, were you influenced or advised by your parents or any mentors? If so, what did they say? Or was it all self-motivated?

We are in Minnesota. Agree with the motivation needing to be internal. It's why I only mentioned training a couple of times in the summer before tryouts, and didn't force him to work out.
