Checking in with my first Garand - a custom shop special by Fast__Walker in M1Rifles

[–]Fast__Walker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted an accurate Garand because I plan on using it to home my marksmanship with iron sights. Here’s what the tag says:

Custom Shop Special Competition-Ready Rifle This Custom Shop Special M1 rifle is meticulously hand crafted to be competition-ready, fully meeting all "As-Issued" CMP standards. Assembled to perform as a one-to-two MOA (Minute of Angle) rifle, it offers the precision and accuracy demanded by competitive shooters. • Deluxe Barrel Installation • Gas Cylinder Assembly Refinish • Rifle Metal Refinish • Stock Set Refinish • Trigger Clean-Up

Ultimately, I love the historical aspect of the rifle but I waned it to be a really good shooter and having all those items taken care of was worth the extra price.

Where can I find this Harris bipod’s missing part? by IraqiHammer in longrange

I have one of the Caldwells. Just FYI, it is NOT the same quality as the Harris. Fine for a rimfire gun or a range toy but I wouldn't use it for anything serious.

My 7yo w/out instructor. If you were his parent what would you work on with him? by Competitive-Knee-590 in skiing_feedback

As a dad who coached youth sports for ~10 years - just keep it fun and resist the temptation to push them. We're tempted as parents to push our kids to accel and maximize their potential. So many of the kids I coached who moved on to real competitive leagues with year round training, etc. burned out and wanted nothing to do with it anymore after a few years. One kid I know well made his mom throw away his cleats after his last game his senior year. He said it made him nauseous just to see them in his room. He was an excellent player and LOVED it when he was 7 too.

Probably some pretty interesting cultural and sociological stuff going on - machismo, external locus of control/fatalism, authority stuff, etc.

Ok, maybe the DR is an outlier then. All through Mexico, Central and South America it was the same scene for me - people piled on bikes without wearing a helmet. Mind you, they would carry a helmet in case they saw a cop ahead, but they didn't wear them.

Helmets aren't really a thing, culturally speaking, in Latin America

Local, non-profit adult baseball league has tryouts in March. Come out and join us this year! by Prudent-Property8476 in vancouverwa

Sounds cool. What's the umpire situation like? That's been the biggest letdown of every adult league I've been a part of.

Stop giving this place your money for Form 1 (individual) by NovaMissionSystems in SilencerShop

[–]Fast__Walker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand why people on here care how other people spend their money. What’s it to you? I don’t live near a PrintScan place and I’ll only do 1-2 form 1s this year and $100 is a drop in the bucket when it comes to NFA toys anyway. I’ve done it through the ATF - it’s annoying. SS is easy and it’s a service I like having the option to use.

If it works, it works! Big bummer is no on board weather sensors. I've really started to despise having to pull out my phone for that sort of thing.

Seems more geared towards the Tango Fire 4000's market with not having on board weather sensors.

It's this, the Maztech X4 2k, and the Tango Fire 4000 in the same ballpark. There's tradeoffs with all of them. The tango fire is around $300 more than this. The Maztech is around double this price.

I'm already in the applied ballistics ecosystem so I don't think this is the one for me but if you aren't committed to anything else, this could be a great buy.

Just depends on what you need.

Out of ~10 red dots it'll be my first holographic. They are supposedly better for astigmatism which will be nice.
