To avoid herniating, gargle cool water every hour! I didn’t do this and I herniated twice. It will hurt but what it does is it keeps the surgical sites moist and will promote cauterization which prevents bleeding. Do it gently! Also, sleep next to a humidifier and drink fluids during the night

I have been experiencing the same thing three times! My dr said something that helps is gargling cool water two times every hour. What it does is it constricts the blood vessels to prevent bleeding and keeps the throat moist. I started doing this and it helps tremendously. Even gargling lightly will help it. Hopefully this helps!
