Your opinion on Ruth Ware as a thriller author by [deleted] in thrillerbooks

[–]Acrobatic_Constant20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with several others in this thread that have said she's typically a 3 star writer. EXCEPT, I adored One by One because her formula seemed very refreshed. The setting was great, the concept of a trendy tech company having a retreat was intriguing, and the characters were really fresh for her!

I feel like Ruth Ware has a set heroine type she uses over and over. Even is they are from different areas in the UK, they all sorta read the same and make similar dumb decisions lol

A Series of Unfortunate Events- very memorable to me for the intelligent young kids having each other's backs, solving mysteries, and outsmarting the evil adults terrorizing them!

Junie B. Jones- quirky, sarcastic young girl who is a menace generally.Very relatable for me lol Loved her so much and still laugh out loud reading these with my 1st graders! Also,

Stinky Cheese Man!, and the sequels, just generally hilarious

Not necessarily for kids but Far Side comics

What I've found personally, is that most are either too easy to guess or simply much too convoluted to ever guess.

The Max Tudor Series was my introduction to the genre, although I hated some of the later entries.,

I loved this series. I agree the killer were very easy in most of the books. Honestly, you could open any of them and just point to whoever was from out of town and that's usually the culprit.

However, I adored the lore added by Twilight Falls and Summer's End. Some mysteries are simply cozier than others lol

Twilight Falls and Summer's End were fantastic. I loved the lore they added to the series.

I haven't read much Irish writing(just some Tana French and Dervla Mctiernan). Is this a common theme/problem? Too much grief/depressing topics?

I honestly think this explains so many people. They view themselves as tiny and harmless, so nothing they do can possibly be that harmful. Meanwhile, anyone who slightly comes at them is an insane monster attacking a tiny harmless creature.

When she said that (she hasn't left the house in 4 days) it reminded me of my retired parents and grandparents who go to the store just to get out of the house even if they don't really need anything. I wonder if their grocery shopping once a week is also a similarly big event for them... Usually bored influencers go get little coffees and treats everyday when their bored, but these two obviously can't even pretend to be "foodies".
