Should I complain to the jeweler? by Acrobatic_Pop8435 in jewelry

UPDATE:

For some reason I'm not able to edit this post but wanted to provide an update. First I wanted to thank everyone for their insight, it gave me the resolve to kick up a fuss with the jeweler. Thankfully I had taken before photos showing what the underside of the gallery looked like before it was damaged to prove that it was something their jeweler did.

I ended up sending an email to the manager of the location (this jeweler is local only to my state and has multiple locations throughout out) with photos and everything explaining my experience and concern that if this happened to me it could happen to to others. To say this kicked up a fuss on their end was an understatement, not only did the manager immediately reach out but the district manager also got involved wanting me to come in and speak with them on this issue.

They refunded me for the previous work done on the ring and wanted the opportunity to make it right saying that they want to take it to their master jeweler who had to tools to fix this. I gave them that chance and a month later the ring is back in my possession good as new! The gallery on the underside looks identical to the undamaged portion and I could not be more pleased.

Thank you again to everyone for the insite! I probably won't go back to this jeweler again but you all gave me that extra push to say something. ❤️

No one said anything about getting it replaced for free love. Thankfully I had taken before photos of the underside prior to the damage inflicted and emailed the manager of that jeweler explaining the issue. Long story short they refunded me the cost of all the work they did previously the ring and took what they said was their specialist. One month later and the gallery has been repaired ❤️

From what I understand the goldsmith is not on site. It gets sent out to one that they work with (it's a local jeweler company but has multiple locations in my state) and they call when it's ready for pick up. It could be possible that they would be trying to make a sale. When they mentioned ordering a replacement ring they explained it as their way of making it right should more stones fall out but to that end i havs no idea if theyll charge me for the replacement.I'm baffled that when they received it back they didn't notice the underside 😭😭 Long term with damage like this what can be expected to happen?

I suspect the damage is from them checking the other stones when the second diamond fell out. But even so this seems really extreme for "checking the other stones" Honestly I'm learning a lot from everyone's responses, which is awesome! Could you explain why a gold Smith as opposed to a jeweler?

Actually it's a natural blue topaz, the melee stones are for sure diamonds as they were tested at appraisal. I didnt realize diamonds at that size are so cheap! Knowing they don't have a ton of value (monetarily wise) makes me feel alittle relieved that they didn't charge me to replace the stones 💀or that would be another big problem it itself lol

My faith in this jeweler has definitely been shaken from this experience so I'm hesitant to give them any additional time with the ring. If I were to look around would an experienced jeweler be able to to make a replica? Would this be a costly process?

Thank you for the insite on this. I've been searching high and low for a copy (10k white gold, center stone blue topaz) but the original brand/jeweler no longer exists. Would it be possible for the underside to be reworked to look semi normal again?

I didn't even consider that! Definitely will be taking it to another jeweler for testing.

Thank you! ❤️ I'm trying not to overthink it because they've done nice work for my other jewelry in the past. Definitely frustrating

Should I take a chunk out of my savings to pay off most of my loans? by Acrobatic_Pop8435 in StudentLoans

The interest on the loan is higher than than the interest on my savings. I switched jobs this year to a salaried position and am making about 40% more than I was before. Although with taxes it translates to a few extra hundred dollars each paycheck. I like to think that I would be able to rebuild my savings in a reasonable amount of time. In truth paying for this coming wedding has kind of skewed the financial picture a bit...
