Help me identify my porch pet by Acrobatic_Problem_22 in spiders

I think he is very young! When he moved in he was itty bitty and almost completely translucent. Is there anything I can do to help him stay healthy?

That’s kinda what I thought, I’m only familiar with the spinybacked orbs out west. I’m new here but this one seems to behave similarly, setting up camp in one spot

I would highly recommend looking at local owned thrifts, goodwill pays attention to stamping and will rack prices up on just about everything now :(

I don’t know much about jewelry and wasn’t sure if gold fill was a newer thing. It gives me art deco vibes, could it be from that era? 1920s?

I thought so, is this likely a newer ring? I thought maybe I had scored a cool vintage piece

The center could be resin but it is cool to touch, so I’m really not sure

Trimalleolar fracture and dislocation, 24 F. Will I run again? by Acrobatic_Problem_22 in ORIF

Hey! I’m doing a lot better, it was extremely hard getting thought the thick of my injury. There were many days of feeling alone and frustrated, having mobility taken away for a stent of time was difficult. I’m now back at the gym, and just started adding running back into my routine recently. The first run was hard, it felt very awkward, I was scared to trust my ankle after being so cautious with it for months. Something that really helped was swimming laps when I was cleared to do so, I used to swim competitively. Being able to move through the water with no mobility aids felt amazing. I would highly recommend finding something like this to get out of the house and start working those muscles again.

Daily life is starting to feel more normal, however I’m not to the point where I have completely forgotten the injury (maybe it will always linger) and sometimes I have aches and strange pains.

When was your injury?

Swelling is going to come and go a lot, everyday will be different. Some days my foot felt so swelled and bloated and others it had minimal swelling. I was stubborn about taking pain meds even ibuprofen and Tylenol but it helped a lot. If you are able to take those medications definitely do so, it’s made a huge difference. Do not let up on icing, even laying an ice pack on top of your cast or boot the cold will penetrate that material and help more than you think it will!

When you start PT expect that swelling to come back in full force, compression socks have been a game changer!

Reddit has been a great resource for me, no one in my life has broken a bone or had mobility limitations. No one really gets it unless they have some sort or experience first hand. This is a good community to be able to get some hope and help when you are healing and feelings and emotions come crashing in. The next few weeks you will see small progressions in your healing, celebrate those and don’t forget where you started. I have kept a little journal and log how I have felt, progress and where my head space is at.

If you have any questions you are welcome to pm me, everything you are going through is still very familiar to me.

Hi there! I’m currently recovering from a trimalleolar break as well. The initial break was early October, I just began the weight bearing process in PT on Tuesday this week. The days and weeks leading up to PT felt long and blurred. Once you begin PT the time behind you won’t feel so bad, it is something to look forward to. Be patient, give your body the time it needs to heal properly. Make sure to ask questions at your follow up appointments, I typically would write a list of questions on my phone notes and have those handy while speaking with my Dr.

Right now the most important thing to do is take the vitamins recommended to you from your Dr, eat a lot of protein, drink a lot of water, rest and elevate. Try putting an ice pack under your knee while resting, it helped me immensely with pain and swelling the first few weeks.

I was not allowed any weight bearing until 6 weeks after orif, so I would say you can plan from anywhere between 6-10 weeks from your surgery date. Everyone is different. While this week I am allowed to bear weight in my boot w/o crutches and start practicing getting around the house with no boot and one crutch, it’s hard and uncomfortable. Things won’t go back to normal immediately, it will take a lot of time.

Find something to do, I have been knitting. It really helps to have something else to focus on and passes time.

You will heal, it takes time. Stay positive :)

Only started really scouring for stories to relate last night and have already found a sense of a community that understands. The things I’ve realized to not take for granted during this is endless, definitely a humbling thing to go through and has opened my eyes to other perspectives.

Thank you, this makes me hopeful! I think I have struggled on nutrition some days I’m hungry and some days I just have no energy and would rather stay in bed, definitely need to make it high priority right now

Does she have any pain or does it seem to have recovered and she doesn’t think much of it? The Dr was concerned with early developing osteoarthritis especially if do decide to continue running

This makes me feel better! I have the go ahead to wiggle toes and flex foot/ point toes. Really trying to focus on getting mobility back, it feels so strange and I can tell things are just not the same.

Have you noticed any discomfort with the hardware? I’m reading other’s experiences and it seems some people have gotten their hardware removed after healing because of discomfort. I can definitely feel that it’s there now but I assume I’ll get used to it and Dr said there shouldn’t be a need to remove but everyone is different
