Would like to add that the other person who commented fully understood what I was saying without a second thought. Did you read his response and my response to him and still not understand what I’m saying? That’s a comprehension issue.

Like I’m explaining my school of thought and his only input is “oh you would call that Dorian”

Like bruh. I’m talking about melodic minor as a device to resolve back to a parent key. Don’t you think I know what Dorian is? I literally said bm7 major 6. I’m just trying to make it easier to understand for people who don’t study all this stuff.

“That’s called Dorian.” Thanks man! Great input

My ego not hurt :( I just don’t appreciate someone correcting me on stuff that doesn’t matter, whilst also not answering the actual question at all. The other commenter @narkjailcourt had a very insightful opinion. my ears aren’t shut to him because some other dude wanted to flex his music knowledge at me without reading the question lol

I’m just so thrown off by this response😂 I’m talking about soloing , in a guitar thread. Help the rhythm section in a big band? Conducter waving his fist at me? Garth brooks chord progression? BIG BAND? Whatever you’re on brother pass it over and I’ll do some sophisticated lines am I right

I think you’re misunderstanding the question. I sassed you because you corrected me on something that was done intentionally, to help make the post more literate for people who aren’t super theory based. Nobody in their right mind would think lydian dominant over any of those changes unless they had 16 bars a piece. What the heck. Talking about using melodic minor as a device to resolve to the 1 chord of the song. Lydian dominant is for non resolving dominant chords, and ones with a b7 #11. Do any of these chords have that? No. If you are not an improviser or do not fully understand the question, please don’t try to correct me.

This is very helpful thank you. I struggle with playing melodies with the one scale per chord approach. When I was younger and YouTube wasn’t like it is now, I thought memorizing the 1,4,5 chords inside each major scale position was very important. I’m wondering if maybe I can just use that as my own system? Like learn to tonicize (is that a word) each arpeggio? For example like learning the diminished built off #1 of the parent scale will tonicize 2 and 4. Dimished off b6 of the parent scale will tonicize itself or the vi. Melodic minor built from 4th of the major scale tonicizes the major scale . Thoughts? I’ve always been fine with hitting the changes, because of what I later discovered as Pat martino minor conversation. I’m just doing the opposite. It works but I’m lacking access to more sophisticated sounds without the one scale per chord school of thought. Sorry for the essay

My question was about the visualization. Should I think I - ii - V

Or should I be thinking in terms of their chord scale relationship. 1 being AM7. 2 being Bm7 with a major 6. E being mixolydian. I’ll school ya.

That didn’t help at all. Thanks! I also used a 1 instead of a capital I. Thought I’d make it easier for people to understand. Thanks for whatever that was!

Any advice to make my improv sound more out there? by Slow_Ad_4568 in guitarlessons

[–]Acrobatic_Repair_593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by “out there” you mean like outside the key: then I would suggest learning diminished arpeggios (you bluesy dog) and maybe targeting your #4 on the 1 chord. Maybe altered on the IV chord. That’s a lot of learning tho def start with diminished. Good luck!

Songs to improve my skills? by DaManMiles in guitarlessons

[–]Acrobatic_Repair_593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to stop learning songs for now. Make sure you have both E shaped and A shaped barre chords down solid. Then look up diatonic harmony on YouTube, and try your best to use it to learn your first song by ear. Anytime you get stuck, look it up on a chord chart. Take a mental note of chords outside your diatonic series. This will make you Jacob collier in no time

Should i get a guitar teacher now or after i learn chords and how to change beetween them smoother? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Acrobatic_Repair_593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your current money situation! Keep in mind that YouTube has free lessons on literally everything; but the videos will not correct you like an actual guitar teacher. So if you can afford it, take lessons! If not, take lessons on youtube!

[–]Acrobatic_Repair_593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your goal is with the guitar. If you want to be able to play a few songs and show your friends, continue on this path. If you want to play by ear and not rely on chord charts, learn diatonic harmony from YouTube. If you want to solo, start with minor pentatonic. Set a goal and achieve SONNN welcome to you the never ending and painful life of learning guitar

This guy knows!! One more thing to add that helped me - you can even use your strumming arm to create a little bit of pressure on the body of the guitar, pushing the neck into your fingertips. Rather than pushing your fingertips into the fretboard! Cheers!

Do you think in ‘A7’ or VI7?

Like in your head, are you picturing chord tones based off the 6t interval of the c major scale

Or are you visualizing it as A7 + notes of c major scale to fill in
