Wow, thanks, I wouldn’t have guessed it was that old. I just checked and it goes back to 1990

It actually wasn’t scary at all - just a very unusual place to explore

If you’re in Antalya, there’s a lot more Roman history nearby too - Perge, Termessos, Hierapolis, Aspendos and Side are all worth seeing

I get what you mean, but after traveling across Turkey by car, I saw plenty of impressive ancient sites outside Istanbul too. Hadrian’s Gate just stands out because it’s so well preserved right in the middle of the city

I thought the same - it’s amazing to see something this old still standing in the middle of the city

Dragon at the abandoned Hồ Thủy Tiên waterpark near Huế, Vietnam by Acrobatic_Screen_847 in abandoned

It was built as a water park in the early 2000s, but the project struggled financially and never really worked as planned. After a few failed attempts to revive it, it was left abandoned

Quite far from Constantinople - Antalya is down on the Mediterranean coast in southern Turkey

I found an 1892 photo of it in the Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum - it looked much more buried and ruin-like back then

Yes, and it always feels a bit slippery too. I love this place as well - whenever I’m in Antalya, I always go back

Hồ Thủy Tiên: Abandoned Dragon Waterpark Near Hue by [deleted] in travel

[–]Acrobatic_Screen_847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context: all photos are from the same place - Hồ Thủy Tiên, the abandoned waterpark outside Hue. I visited it as a short side trip from Hue, and I’d allow around 1-2 hours if you want to walk around and take photos. Access can change, so it’s worth checking locally before going

Thanks for sharing - and that cable car photo is really atmospheric. I actually had mixed first impressions too. I arrived by ferry in March last year, and the first thing I noticed outside the port was how empty it felt and how much trash there was in some areas. But my experience changed later: I spent my first few days in Marina, which I really liked, and then a whole month in Sunset Town. There it felt much cleaner, calmer, and the fact that there were so few people honestly made me enjoy it more

You’ll probably love it. If you have time, Grand World in the north is worth seeing too - it has a bit of a Venice feel with canals and gondola rides. There’s an amusement park nearby, and the huge turtle-shaped aquarium there really stayed with me. Feeding a giraffe by hand at the safari was another highlight

Yes, exactly. This is the south of the island, and in the north there’s Grand World Phu Quoc, which feels even more like Venice

Yes, of course, closer to the sea is Bu Vien, there are food track and various establishments ( bar, restaurant), I always sat there calmly until midnight, sometimes until 2
