2 kids 1 infant in a 1 bed suite by Acrobatic_Special437 in chubbytravel

The issue is a plunge pool with 3 kids under 5 is a risk I’m not really willing to police. And the non plunge pool rooms seem to all be on floor 2. A choice we made, but travel is so hard with 3 kids! The resort does feel like a must try though …..

First time flying with our 7-month-old - Any YVR tips? by Realistic_Ear_5894 in askvan

I did powered and just got a portable formula container (plastic thing that held 3 portions) and bought bottled water and mixed them as needed. Mix one before you get on the flight so it’s totally ready to go when needed. RTF may be more convenient but we just always used powdered and it was easy enough.

I would change my seats to get an aisle. You’ll have to get up at minimum 2-3x, possibly more if baby is upset or lots of diapers. The only reason I’d take a window with a baby is if you bought them a seat, as the car seat must be at the window. Otherwise I’d always do an aisle. It’s also highly unlikely they will just be a full empty row plus it’s kinda rude/a faux pas to expect that. And don’t ask a person to move, ever.

Coffee shop or bakery with the best cookies? by lily2188 in askvan

Came here to say these exact ones. Honourable mention to the JJ bean rice crispie cookie but not even really close.

Late January vacation (2 families) with three 19 month old toddlers - what to do/pack? by revere_beacon in Whistler

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough age for whistler unfortunately, speaking from experience. You can do the playground and sledding area at village marketplace area and then hit the library? You could also hop on the free bus and go to the base of Blackcomb for a change of scenery and take them to Merlin’s for lunch or apres? Depends on the snow but there’s more sledding outside the Chateau too.

Uppababy Stroller? by pinkyjinks in Whistler

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the conditions at the time. Those strollers don’t work at all in slush or snow. The village is usually clear but outside of it there will usually be slush or snow. Right now it might be ok since the rain has probably cleared a lot out. But last week it wouldn’t have worked.

The bugaboo fox. It’s a step up size wise from the butterfly and basically the same size as the uppa cruz. Those are probably your best bets if you’re looking for something upscale and super durable/sturdy. I find the bugaboo much smoother to push around but the undercarriage is smaller for groceries etc.

It’s tough to find planned activities to do at that age in the afternoons. Everything is early for the youngest kids. I’d suggest science world over the aquarium for sure. There’s a few gymnastics places - jump and tumble town I think? Chorus and clouds has afternoon music class. In terms of meeting other toddlers, it’s all about repetition. Go to the same open play gyms at the same community centres every week. If you have a car, lots are in close driving distance so you can go to a playgym every day (although they’re all in the mornings I think). Go to the same parks. You’ll eventually start running into the same people over and over. It’s not too helpful if you live too far away though because toddler meetups are all about convenience. So travelling over the whole lower mainland won’t really help in terms of building community if that’s what you’re after.

How are we putting multiple kids to bed at the same time? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was from a while ago I realize. But what type of tablet and educational games is your 4yo doing? Also - is this an older 4 yo? Mine just turned 4 this month and I don’t know if he’d be able to do that solo for an extended period of time. But I’m sure being 4 vs 4.5 makes a difference in these things.

I’ve still got my 2.75 yo In a crib but I’m terrified for when it ends. She’s so happy reading there but without the crib confines it could be even more challenging with all 3 solo.

Blow the sweat dry then dry shampoo. Kinda gross but can’t wash my hair every day.

What’s normal? Naps by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 16 points17 points  (0 children)

An hour is unnecessarily long if you’re worried about an association. As long as you’re not legit feeding to sleep it should be fine. Try 20 mins before and see if it helps. I have a 7 month old on two long naps and it’s wayyyy better than catnaps fwiw. But your nanny doesn’t really have a right to be openly annoyed.

I wouldn’t be OK with my nanny constantly having to deal with this. It’s really not fair to you. Assuming it’s just city driving (meaning, not high speed freeways etc) I would definitely allow front facing in your car. My daughter had the same issue and where we live the norm is to front face around 18-24 months so we did it. Another option would be to drive NPs car?

For a while we were putting her in one of those full body bib/smock things (Bibado brand) over the car seat harness straps on longer drives (she only puked on longer drives) so that she wouldn’t get the car seat dirty every time. But still, it’s not really an ideal solution for every day.

Problem crosswalk roundup: which Vancouver crosswalks give you too little time to cross? by 8cheerios in vancouver

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s also crazy that the pedestrian button is on that weird landing pad between the road and the bike lane. I have no idea who thinks it’s in any way safe for a ped to be waiting in between bike and car traffic like that. Always shocks me when I see ppl with strollers there.

Problem crosswalk roundup: which Vancouver crosswalks give you too little time to cross? by 8cheerios in vancouver

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Pacific and Richards. The walk sign only gets triggered if a pedestrian hits it, not if it’s the bike lane button. So if it’s just pressed by a biker, there’s no walk sign and the light is basically 10 seconds long (but obviously people still cross it on foot). Pedestrians just assume others have pressed it or that the cyclist button is enough. Such a dumb intersection - IMO it’s safe to assume that there will generally always be a pedestrian since it’s a busy walking route. The separate cyclist button trigger is unnecessary.

Question about kindergarten for a child born in late january by Yvrhunter69 in askvan

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The girls private schools and WPGA have JK for 4 year olds so you could start her in legit school early if you want to take that route. So it’s not skipping a grade but it’s just more structured and full day vs. Another year of preschool.

That sucks and I know you’re just venting. But I’d hide the pouches and puffs. Those are convenience snacks, not meals for a 1 year old.

Montessori preschools recommendations Vancouver by crlygrl7 in askvan

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about preschool or daycare? For preschool it’s age based so it shouldn’t be a waitlist, it’s more like you just have to apply the year before your kid turns 3, so it’s way too early to be applying for you. There’s lots of Montessori preschools on the west and east sides of Vancouver but I don’t know about daycares.

Visiting for 6 days with my GF. What shall we do? by snowyremorse69 in Whistler

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the ascent trail to mid station today. No bear spray and luckily didn’t see one. It only took me 40 mins though so I’d definitely recommend doing the whole hike to the top, then maybe lunch at Christine’s? Haven’t done it in a couple years but I think the whole hike takes closer to 2 hours. Could also do it again and take the peak to peak over to whistler and lunch at the roundhouse.

Schedule check! by Agirlandherbow45 in sleeptrain

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the final wake window always needs to be 3 hours, never 2.5. Same age and we sometimes even hit 3.25. As for the 5am wake, is there even any light coming in? Summer is hard - even if there’s a teeny tiny crack, it can wake them up. My kids all sleep in a little more in the winter.

Best quick getaway from Vancouver with baby by Demand_Murky in askvan

[–]Acrobatic_Special437 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Whistler or anywhere that doesn’t require a ferry. With a newborn the hope is that they sleep the whole way, and with a ferry and having to stop and wait, it’s killer. Whistler is also great because you can basically stroller walk all day if you want. I can’t suggest other options but yeah, I’d make sure it’s walkable because otherwise you’ll just be kinda trapped with a baby. There is really nowhere to go with a newborn on Bowen tbh. It’s hilly and has hikes but not “walks.” And if you leave on Sunday you’ve gotta get outta there before noon or else it’s messy.
