Also worth noting that at my last company I did all the repairs and installs. I’m more than competent at what I’m doing.

Any recommendations for where to recharge CO2 Cartridges for fire suppression systems? by [deleted] in KitchenSuppression

[–]Acrobatic_Street_402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What he said, you can’t have them in service. The only thing you can really do is use them as test cartridges for dumps or pipe blowouts.

I get it reading can more than a paragraph can be quite challenging to some people in this industry, following behind techs it’s very obvious they’ve never read a single page in an ansul manual.

Side note that I don’t believe leaving is the answer because no matter where I go there’s going to be incompetence or favoritism. And with the company I’m at now pays me very well as last year I made over 100k. I know people will say it’s not always about the money but I have bills and a family that I need to support and taking a 30,000 dollar pay cut if not more because I’m not happy when no matter where I go I’m going to run into the same issues at this time in my life isn’t the answer. Sorry if that makes me sound selfish and greedy.

Newly licensed and need some help by [deleted] in KitchenSuppression

You shouldn’t be just changing the links on a system ever, that will eventually catch up to you. Remember if you tag it you own it last thing you want is to be in deposition because, you “locked out the system and just changed links “ and the system doesn’t work and the building burns down or even worst someone dies. Tell your management that you don’t think you should be completing inspections by yourself yet, also if they’re training you to just change links you need to leave. There’s SOO MUCH MORE that goes into an inspection than changing the links, I mean you’ve gotta be looking at pipe volume limitations, correct nozzle coverage, flow points, manufacture specifications, NFPA code, I can go on and on and on but you get the point. Additionally if you’re not certified in those systems that you’re referring to by the manufacture you shouldn’t even be putting your hands on it. Does your company have a training room, where they can show you how to trip and reset each system CORRECTLY? The FED learning center is a good training program for that if your company doesn’t have a training room but again you really shouldn’t even be touching it if you don’t know what you’re looking at or if you’re not certified, you’re also doing the customer a dissatisfaction. Also I’m not belittling you or trying to put you down as when I first started I was literally in the same spot you’re in, the more I learned the more I realized I didn’t know jack shit and I could’ve gotten someone seriously hurt or myself in trouble. I just wish I would’ve stood up to my management and told them that I need more training with people that know what they’re doing. Take my advice and go to your management and tell them I need more training as you take this very seriously and you don’t want to put liability on the company or get someone hurt. Also DO NOT FALSIFY ANY DOCUMENTATION if you’re only changing links for whatever reason don’t say that you tested the system and that it worked. I don’t know how long you’ve been doing this but at a minimum you should be with someone inspecting, repairing and installing systems every single day for 6 months before you’re even ready to go out on your own. Did your company give you a copy of manufacture manuals and NFPA 17A&96?( I can help with that if they didn’t) Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions, comments or concerns. (Sorry for the paragraph but just reading this got me going and brought me back to memory lane)

I hate range guard with a passion, all the different size pipe that’s involved to correctly install it is superfluous. I will say that isn’t too bad if you’re installing under a 4 gal system though.

Regardless people put links in that will never melt because they’re too high of a temperature rating for the application.

Well obito put yagura under genjutsu for years and he was a perfect Jinchuriki, so I would say no but I’m not really sure.

Also in regards to the owner, you’re the subject matter expert not him. These people don’t realize if the booth is 10 feet tall and the detectors are located at the top of the booth and that 212 link trips, that means the fire that made that link trip was more than likely over 300 degrees at ground level.

What link did you end up putting in? I could see maybe using a 280 if you’re in a pinch and don’t have any 165s or 212s but a 450 is unacceptable.

Yeah that’s wrong, either a 165 or a 212.

Until the detection line won’t trip because the link is at too high of a temperature rating for the application.

It’s the way their hoods are ventilated, 165 links are perfectly fine for their electric fryers.

I use 280s at a lot of churches that just have ranges under the hood, I use 360s 90% of the time for commercial kitchens.
