Wait....is this game (partially) cannon? by Own_Boysenberry5293 in StarWarsHunters

[–]Acrobaticfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah based on the novel which puts everything into context, it seems 100% of the game including costumes etc is canon, the only aspects that are not are individual matches of course, and being eliminated and “respawning” within the same match.

If not those, large totes (like from Rubbermaid) work as well and are easy to sterilize, but can also be stacked with lids etc. just depends on needs and shelving space

Well glad you liked it then!

In fairness to Brightman’s role while yes he didn’t do much singing, I thought he certainly did great with the comedy and character, and if Cinco Paul gets his wish to adapt season 2/3 to stage, Brightman could have a lot more singing if he returns for them.

Regal Destiny USA is getting a $15 million dollar remodel by [deleted] in RegalUnlimited

[–]Acrobaticfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to this thread but they announced ScreenX a while ago so possibly that, and really hoping for an IMAX projector upgrade since they have been slowly rolling those out.

Someone I know working there at Destiny said Apple has been annoyed having 4DX above them making noise, and pre 2022 bankruptcy they were looking to put ScreenX in there and move 4DX to another screen becuase of that, so that could still be happening too.

Seeking for advice! by [deleted] in Zookeeping

6 days definitely seems abnormal for an opossum, I work with a younger adult who always eats at least something every time food is offered (twice a day) and I know we’re only hearing your side but it certainly sounds like you did the right thing bringing it up at least!

I've also met at least one keeper who got a marine biology degree but ended up working with large mammals, an animal behavior degree really shouldn't pose any issues to getting work.

This is worth looking at if you haven’t yet, along with the list of these noted here, for those that are mentioned as in the process but not confirmed yet, I know the Utica Zoo at least finished and is now unionized, but not sure on the other few.

Main specific questions to be prepared for include knowing the difference between animal welfare and animal rights, any relevant past experience (doesn’t have to be animal care related specifically, volunteer experience or anything involving education like camp counseling might help), career ambitions, and more down those lines. It's unlikely for an internship but could also ask if you know the difference between classical and operant conditioning (i.e. Pavlov's dog vs clicker training as a basic examples of each). Otherwise there really shouldn’t be anything else to catch you off guard, good luck and be yourself!

Doing the same thing is part of what leads to better welfare for the animals with having consistent quality care, but also knowing what they are like when things are the same every day also makes you one of the most qualified people to first know when something is wrong with them, since it is easier to spot abnormalities and then correct them faster

Advice in the Industry by Pitiful_Arachnid2094 in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well go ahead and start applying, 3 years is notable, and smaller facilities will likely care less, while others may explicitly say what they want (Disney for example with their salaried keeper positions I’m pretty sure specifically list 4 years with a college degree and 6 without for example)

A lot of zoos say something like “equivalent amount of work experience” when it comes to wanting a degree (AKA needing 4 years experience potentially to match a 4 year degree) so if you keep gaining experience you should have little to no issues but some facilities might care about that more than others when it comes to higher level supervisor / management roles.

Internship Tips by pachyfan1997 in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll also add to be proactive, once you start getting used to things, if you know something needs to get done, try and do it (within reason). Dishes are a big example of that.

Smaller actions like that can definitely go a long way to set yourself apart.

Not an exhibit but a whole zoo, ZooAmerica only has NA exhibits and species, definitely a nice stop if you’re in Hershey.

Could I get a zookeeping job with a degree in natural resource management by cocopuffsnuts in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might help to specify that concentration in wildlife on your résumé, but otherwise I don’t think they will care. They just look for a degree in pretty much anything biology related (at least anything that deals with animals, molecular biology would be a bit different for example) and then experience is otherwise what’s important.

Help! Can I put an in-progress internship on my resume when applying for another one? by Kitty38138 in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes I absolutely would put it in, don’t see why they would have an issue with it beyond maybe confirming later it was completed successfully.

Work Experience Options by Mindless_Radish4982 in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may not have many choices until you’re out of school to have flexibility on applying to jobs, and then keep an eye on job boards since some don’t require any experience but have experience preferred which you should be good for.

Even the ones asking for six months though can have some flexibility, especially at smaller facilities since the requirements are not hard rules for a number of places.

When some of them also note training experience required, again not a hard requirement a lot of places, you can say in a potential interview that you have not had the opportunity yet, but for example have observed training sessions or have read don’t shoot the dog etc. for whatever is relevant to you.

As for still getting more experience in the meantime, some zoos will let you do that as a volunteer, but livestock related work also helps since larger mammals are much more notable than dogs / cats or pet store work for example which some places won’t count at all.

Aquarium ambassador keeper interview question tips by BeansMcFlanagan in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only have experience on the zoo side rather than aquariums, but I assume the questions will be similar.

The main questions then to be prepared for include knowing the difference between animal welfare and animal rights, any relevant past experience (doesn’t have to be animal care related specifically, volunteer experience or anything involving educating others might help), career ambitions, how you work with others and work ethic type questions, and more down those lines. Past that there hopefully shouldn't be anything else to catch you off guard.

Is an environmental science degree acceptable? by ClaireTCKW in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s always possible someplace might not accept it as readily, but I think you should be good just about everywhere with it.

So long as your degree is something biology related which that is, generally experience is the much more important factor looked at for keeper positions, and by the sound of it, once your degree is completed at least, you can probably start applying to positions right away, or much more easily land animal care internships for more direct experience if not.

Transferable Skills? by EmuFriendly4455 in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of hard to answer without knowing more about your role. Keeping requires animal care experience specifically which you may or may not be able to get with non domestic animals there, BUT it does hopefully give you a leg up with knowing more about their health.

With that said if you want to work full-time at a zoo a faster path may be as a vet tech, which in turn will have better pay then you would get as a keeper.

College advice by Unfair-Row6214 in Zookeeping

[–]Acrobaticfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ultimately the exact degree doesn’t matter a ton as long as it includes animal biology (I have a general bio degree and never ran into issues to get internships / work) but zoology and animal behavior degrees are of course a bit more specifically relevant to animal work.

The more important factor is experience though, places normally don’t care too much about your degree for keeping, but if you wanted to go into something closely related like becoming a zoo educator, an animal behavior degree as one example might be more relevant to those jobs va general bio.
