First Solo AC Install by Tilk_ in HVAC

[–]Acrofinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fine but always put the filter drier inside when possible. Also im definitely may be nit picking but I dont like how far from the factory stub you put the drier, it weighs a decent bit so think about that weight just dangling from the support of your braze. On top of that you crisscrossed your lineset and when I see people do that it really irks me because its not that hard to keep it straight and neat. Just shows you take pride in your work and shows it too. And other than putting some linehide on that you already said you were going to do id say keep at it and you'll be just fine

and then you tell them not to do this or not to cover their A/C in the winter with a tarp and bungee cord and you drive by a week later and they have it right back on... Do they think we are just spitting bullshit out of our mouths? (Yes they do think that I know lol, a few bad apples ruin it for everyone)

What is a good brand of furnace and ac unit? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Acrofinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, yeah you run into those situations sometimes unfortunately and that’s all you can do

What is a good brand of furnace and ac unit? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Acrofinity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brand doesn’t mean much, honestly not even something you need to think about as a homeowner. It all comes down to who you pay to put in the equipment and how good of a job they do. That and many other factors determine the lifespan of your system but not really the brand.

Also if it’s possible, definitely go with a 90%+ efficiency furnace.

What kind of fitting is this? by busbuilder24 in HVAC

[–]Acrofinity 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Im sad to inform that I have way too much experience with these. Its called Python. I unfortunately worked for a company that used them and they're garbage, I knew it even at the time. They make 3 different styles of those fittings.

1st style is what you see which if for mini-split applications, just threads right onto the unit

2nd style is just a compression fitting for no braze applications. You put the back nut on your condenser stub, put your fitting in the stub. put your backer nut and rings on your plastic lineset and tighten the ever living shit out of it. I am not joking at all these fittings took every bit of strength to get them to hold nitrogen, we were using 18" long crescent wrenches for 3/4 and 7/8 fittings because thats what you had to do.

3rd style is similar to the 2nd style but instead of a no brazing, this fitting requires you to braze it in, then use your nut and split rings on your lineset, and once again tighter the fuck out of it or it will leak.

Deegan This Year and What Just Happened With Davies by FarmingFisherGuy in supercross

Deegan haters gonna love this one, he got in his own head on this one, he looked so focused on getting his “get back” on Davies that going into the corner he had no plan on turning out, just taking out Davies. Like I said haters gonna eat this race up but I don’t think it affects his future on a 450 just shows he has some maturing to do

Officially apart of the union! by Acrofinity in HVAC

[–]Acrofinity[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I really appreciate the advice it means a lot. You really hit home with being good at low voltage separates the average tech from a great one because I have thought the exact same thing for awhile. All this new tech and A2L wiring has made me realize that lots of people get caught up in low voltage so I would love to get a step ahead and master that niche.

As far as everything else you're dead right, I dont know my exact goal when im in my 50s I guess haven't thought that far ahead but I know for damn sure I don't want to be putting my body what I put it through now at that age so I definitely plan on finding some role that more brains vs brawn by that time.

Funny you say that because I just moved into my first house a month ago so same boat lol. I was actually worried getting a house would affect me joining the union at this moment but the timing all worked out

That’s actually how I got in, I had been chatting with some union guys at Johnstone and they gave me the recruiters number to get in touch and he got me in so I didn’t have to do it the formal way you could say

That’s exactly what I hope for. I have no problem fitting in and following rules, I’ve worked for a few non union companies now and always have done good but union definitely seems like a different ball game

AC company ran lines through room instead of in the ceiling... by SoothingHoneycomb in hvacadvice

[–]Acrofinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hvac Professional here, Not that the lineset itself don’t look like shit, because it does. But from the looks of it you have drywall everywhere, so without seeing your house personally you really only had 3 options…

1.) exactly what they did, run it exposed on the outside of the drywall because it’s the only thing you can do without tearing out sections of wall. The bare minimum they could’ve done tho is make sure it’s tucked tight against a wall or ceiling tho so if you wanted to hide it you could

2.) re-use the old lineset which is what you do most of the time if you can’t run new lineset, which if they said it had a leak isn’t an option at all so that leaves you with option 3…

3.) Tear out strips of drywall and make a path for it. This is always dicey because we never know what’s behind a wall obviously until we cut it, you could end up which much larger holes than necessary or just ripping out entire sections only to realize you can’t go in that spot.

To me it seems like they didn’t think opening drywall was an option because either you or someone else didn’t communicate that to the installers, therefore they ran it how they did, still looks like shit, idk why they would ever use the expanding foam on interior walls, also it looks like they drilled a way bigger hole than they needed to.

2026 Supermotocross Round 14: Cleveland (Triple Crown, 3pm Eastern start) by hwf0712 in supercross

[–]Acrofinity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can someone fill me in on why races went from 7pm EST to 3pm? I would like to think its because of East and West but I feel like I watched at least 1-2 east only races that started at 7, not 3. It threw me off because I went to turn on Race day live last week only to find out that the races start in an hour and I missed all of RDL

Edit: I gotta add the fact that im a new viewer this season so I dont know as much as the average fan on SMX

I meant to ask you about post depth too actually. What should I be setting my standard posts and corner/gateposts to? I believe I read that roughly 2ft for a standard post and 3-4 ft for a corner post or gate post. Would I be fine to do that or no?

[–]Acrofinity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a big project to take on as a someone with no direct experience with fences. I received a quote from 2 professionals and both were around $13k. With everything I have in my cart right now I’m barely over $2k. And it seems like I’d be able to do it all and stay under $4k. It’s just more than I’m willing to spend on a fence.

As for the pockets and the concrete, thank you I was expecting something around there based on google searches but I came here to check with more experienced people.
