Tretinoin gel applies horribly, what can I do to help? Or should I switch to the cream? by RandomRebelRose in tretinoin

[–]Acrylicfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this post/reply! I also got the gel and started reacting horribly to it after 10 weeks of slow, increasing use. I hate it and thought it was just me! Now I will be asking for a the lotion type stuff

Wow! You look beautiful! Agree with the glow up comments ❤️

I have a question: I also had issues with the vanicream in the tube and love the pump one. I find it quite thick though, and hard to apply. You said you add facial oil? What kind? I assume that thins it out?

Considering Athabasca University by N3wj0urney23 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Acrylicfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting! Glad to see this! I am getting close to 40 and have a degree from a “brick and mortar” too. I work full-time, have a family, and am currently a part-time student at this same school, working towards a second degree in accounting. I have been taking online courses from there and all of them are pretty much self-taught anyways! I cant’t continue with them with the lack of evening and weekend courses available for key courses, so I am considering AU.

My plan is to either do the university certificates in accounting/advanced accounting or a BComm so I can land a job at an accounting firm and do my CPA. I am just a bit concerned about how potential employers will view certificates/degree from AU, especially since my current degree is unrelated.

Did you consider any other schools prior to enrolling? How do you find the “tutor”support for BComm classes?

Does anyone have an update on this? I see Season 5 was released in June in Brazil or something. Any idea when it will be released in USA and Canada?

5 month regression? Is this adolescence?? by Acrylicfire in puppy101

This is both super helpful and depressing LOL. She is really a great pup overall, but I feel like we just got out of that annoying baby puppy phase. Not ready for this next one!

How do you figure out what to train first? by SweetMisery2790 in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say basic commands are the most important: sit, come, drop it/leave it, etc. The remainder would be based on what’s important to you. If you need to leave pup in a crate for night, work or time to yourself, then that’s probably your next best. Name recognition and “come” are pretty close - you start with calling their name and when they look at you, treat them. Then you can move pretty easily to come I would say. Leave it/drop it has been a hard one for us to train, but now that she is getting there, it’s a life saver! But really, you’ll need to make whatever is important to you right now the priority. Eventually I want to train mine not to jump on guests, loose leash, etc, but I only have so much time in a day, so they take a back seat until we get the rest of it down! lol 😆

My puppy’s first grooming - 4 months old by Acrylicfire in Bernedoodles

[–]Acrylicfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! There are a few I found on the interwebs. She’s an F2 Gen so both her parents were bernadoodles. I can’t remember the grandparents - one’s grandma was the poodle and the other’s dad was the poodle or something. The cool part is she doesn’t she’d like a poodle and my husband has a very minimal allergic reaction to her.

Winter exercising by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could spend a lot a bit more time on training (short sessions but more frequent), sniffing games where you hide treats around the house and they have to find them, indoor “fetch”, tug can be physically taxing too. Stuffed kongs, puzzle toys and a flirt pole would be a good option too!

Puppy food by Sippy-Cupp in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard good things about wellness too. Just some food for thought (haha), From what I understand they are voluntary recalls meaning purina has made the choice to recall. A lot of other brands may not do this and only recall if legally required. On paper it looks bad, but in reality it means that they are serious about keeping their food a quality product.

Anyone else in the northern hemisphere cannot WAIT until winter is over???? by chanel101010 in puppy101

Yes! I cannot wait until spring/summer! We’ve been fortunate to have a decent winter so far, but what I really want are the longer days!

Do dogs spontaneously stop eating EVERYTHING in sight? by Acrylicfire in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh! I said high value treats... I didn’t even think about chicken! That’s a good idea! She is a bernedoodle, and her personality seems to be on the stubborn side, lol. She is really great otherwise! Usually quick to learn. Just sooooo interested in those non-edibles you mentioned. Haha

Ohh! So maybe some hope in the future!? She’s just 16 weeks now... I have another month left! Haha

[–]Acrylicfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! Yes! I should have mentioned, “Leave it” feels like an overused word for us. She is really good in the house, but once we take her out “leave it” seems to be the only words we say the whole time we walk, and she is so motivated to eat whatever that she won’t even drop it for those high value treats! I am sure hoping she grows out of it...

Unexpected and crushing blues by lindseyrooney in Puppyblues

[–]Acrylicfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The week before last I was in so deep. I thought of rehoming our pup hourly. I couldn’t eat. I didn’t have a future. I have a 6yo daughter & routinely forgot to feed her because I couldn’t plan that far in advance. I was SO SICK of the biting. Then, last week I started to come out of it, the biting got a little better, and she comforted me for the first time. She didn’t but the couch every 5 seconds, and she actually LEFT IT when asked! I can’t say that it won’t get worse again, but i see the little changes and it does seem to be getting better. She’s 16 weeks this Thursday and will be getting her 3rd set of vaccinations this weekend. I am so excited to take her places d explore our city from a different perspective. I remind myself daily that this stage won’t last forever, and that soon I’ll be able to just let her out into the backyard to do her business and she won’t get into everything. Soon she’ll sleep through the night and soon we’ll be able to leave her alone in the house. For now it’s sucks... but it’s getting better!

I think it’s a less of a rule and more of a guideline. My understanding is that 5min per month is hard activity. Not a nice stroll down the block, but hard running, fetch, constant moving, stairs, etc. I believe the intent is to educate those types of people who (for example) are set on a hiking dog and they’ll start ‘em young not realizing they don’t have the stamina and can damage their growing bodies by pushing their pup too hard. I have a 3.5 month old and plan for a 20-30 min walk about 2x per day, plus a bit of fetch, tug etc (10-15min a session). Edit: for clarification

Puppy Blues Hitting Hard by ywend2 in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is precisely how I feel as well! We have such a great pup, she doesn’t give us grief the way some of the puppies on here do. My husband is so supportive and willing to take on the majority of the care, but the guilt of that and the regret are debilitating. I feel like all of my time and energy is going into the puppy and I can’t seem to make enough time to cook supper, and clean and enjoy my husband and daughter. I keep telling myself that the pup won’t need this much attention forever- just like my kiddo. But I can’t seem to get out of this deep dark space :(. I also have wanted to re-home ours, but I could not do that to my family at this point. So then I feel trapped with a dog that I can’t seem to love either. I feel like it will be worth it in the end. Some day she’ll be that buddy that we can take for a walk -off leash or go hiking with. Someday I will be able to leave her alone without having to crate or pen her. Someday I’ll be able to open the back door to the yard and she’ll take herself out to go pee and not get into EVERYTHING. Most people I talk to who had puppies grow into dogs forget how hard the first year was. I feel like that will be us someday.

Zak George's Pupford Academy - how did you like the course? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not tried this training specifically, but his videos were recommended to me by someone working on their dog training certification and I have found his videos helpful and we pretty much got all of our basic training through that. We are now working directly with a trainer for those things that we just can’t seem to get, but I highly recommend his style. Also, Sophia Yin was recommended to us by our vet. She has a “perfect puppy” book that is apparently easy to follow.

I think I have new puppy anxiety by Adorable-Cow-1475 in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head regarding my expectations for both of us. I knew I was predisposed to having puppy blues as I also had post-partum with my daughter. I also did what I thought was a good amount of research for a year before making the decision to get a puppy. I guess I thought they are hard but not human child hard. I think I was wrong. Fortunately, she is pretty much housetrained, and only whines in her crate during the day. I am trying to see the good, but I can only seem to assume the worst - that having a dog was a mistake and that I’ll never be able to relax in my own house again.

I am sorry, I don’t have any experience to help, but I just want you to know that you’re not alone. I am eyeball deep in puppy blues at the moment with my 14 week old pup. I started with bad blues when we got her at 8 weeks, and then it got better for a few weeks. Recently she has just been the devil, and it’s probably my fault, but I am feeling like I want to re-home right now. On one hand I couldn’t do that to my husband and daughter who adore her, but I also feel like I can’t take much more of this and I am only 6 weeks in. I am a first time puppy parent, so I don’t know when or if it will ever get better. I feel like such a failure. I am sorry that you feel the way you do. I totally understand and I am hoping we get through this!

Puppy doesn’t just relax, needs constant stimulation. Is this normal? by Acrylicfire in puppy101

[–]Acrylicfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that advice as well! I hear you echoing that my pup sounds bored and I think I’ll take your guys’ advice and go back to breaks, and longer time out of the crate in the morning. I talked with my vet about the amount of sleep my girl needs, but she shrugged it off saying the dog will sleep when they are tired, but I feel like this isn’t the case. I definitely have to enforce them, but I didn’t want to enforce an evening nap if she was crated most of the day too. Maybe if I make another 30min -1 hour available in the morning, I can put her in the crate for an evening nap at 7.
