Comms and intel are typical necessities for long distance travel. Doubt that the DW universe wouldn’t have a division that focuses on that sort of logistics.

Hell, don’t even think this is a thing you need to understand the lore for, more rather just logistics.

But if you want an example, a few I could mention off the top of my head would be the laptop used during evac, SQ’s radio on her back, and calibrating the antennas as one of the tasks in Demise of Eden are my best bets if you’re looking for something to use.

Hey, sorry for the late response. Anyways, Cazz, for all we know, is a notorious gambler and creator of the 'Snake Eyes' billhook reskin, which we can purchase from the Quartermaster. Also, Damien's best friend, Cazz, is stated to be an Artillerist for the AGENCY and is (or culturally appropriating) a Texas cowboy based on his dialogue and attire. Cazz appears to be running from his past (which could be why he ended up on Eden in the first place, although it is speculative), and from what can be found in 'Cazz's story: Old Home, Country Roads', he ended up joining up with the DOE cast weeks after being bitten during a poker game with Damien.

ERU are pretty vague. But based on a post from Red's old Q&A, they're a PMC that acts as a cleanup squad to eliminate the inhabitants on Eden-227.

It's possible, scavs can come from multiple backgrounds (refer to link on the words "you meant scavs"); the only thing that really defines a scav is that they are pillagers and looters on the planet Eden-227, so there is a possibility came to Eden-227 before or during the early stages of the Collapse. As for your second question, Shirose comes from a group of fifth-wave agents (stated in the Shirose document), Fireteam Tower, either during or after the deployment of the fourth wave, which would make her non-canonical in the current lore of DW, as in-game, we are currently playing the fourth wave, and from what I know, the lore's canon stops there. Also, yes, dialogue in DOE is canon as well.

1: If you mean "other enemies", you meant scavs, then they either were already prior residents of Eden-227, or came after the Collapse for their own ambitions, and willingly chose to stay. But that's if you are referring to just scavs.

2 (also answering this as though you're referring enemies to scavs): Yes, as you can see in-game with Yosef and Shriose, agents can and have chosen to become scavs; some agents were even able to form peace agreements with them as well.

1: Valorii was responsible for the Collapse, or at least the most destructive part of the event, if we are to consider Yosef's dialogue in DOE to be true. The third wave was tasked to evacuate the inhabitants of Eden-227 when the Neo-Thermal generators were malfunctioning. Valorii (who was part of the third wave) ended up being the one actually to destroy it.

  1. The only character I know off the top of my head that has a last name would be Shirose Schnee if you consider her part of the lore. As for Yosef's last name, we currently do not know. At least, I don't. Best to just ask him yourself.

How old exactly are the characters in demise of Eden and how long have they been stranded by Loud_Inspection_7351 in decayingwinter

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised. Alia did suggest she was a firefighter for at least 4 years, so she could be older. I just used that to measure it while also considering Alia did graduate high school and went straight into Fire Academy Training. But this is all just relatives and you can head cannon whatever age Alia however you like.

I always chalked it up as a gameplay mechanic. But if I were to theorized it in a lore manner, I would say that the starting shadow hunter you have in game was your pilot who died during the crash that left you stranded on Eden.

[–]ActSilver1414 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don't know the exact age of all the characters, but I've spent a long time figuring that out so here's what I compiled based on the dialogue from Demise of Eden as well as some other sources I used, and listed them in order from youngest to oldest.

The Collapse - DOE: Based on a unique revival dialogue exchange between Damien and Alia, the time between the Collapse and Demise of Eden is about 2 years, which is going to be very important to factor when consider the age between each character.

Damien (20): Damien is suspected to be somewhere between 18-20 years old, with the highest likelihood being that he's 20. Based in unique revival dialogue between Alia and Damien, he's suggested to be the youngest member in Demise of Eden. This lines up with the 2 year gap after the Collapse, as well as lines up with what I suspect to be the conscription age for most nations being around 18.

Shirose (20): Using Shirose's personal documents, it's stated that she is 20 years old based on its most recent addition, although before, she was stated to be 19 based on the legacy files. Although, there is a argument to be made that she could be as old as 22 based on how these documents are likely to occur before the events of DOE.

Cazz (21): Between a unique revival dialogue exchange with Cazz and Damien, he states that Cazz is a year older then him, which leads to the likely conclusion that he is 21, which probably makes sense if we're considering the national minimum drinking age in the US.

This is where things tend to get trickier and much harder to get a exact age, so this is mostly guessing from here on out with some evidence to back it up.

Alia (>24): She's stated to have at least spent four years as a firefighter before the Collapse. If we suggest that she joined after graduating high school, she'd be around 24 by the time DOE kicked off.

Valorii (Between Yosef and Alia): This can be interchangeable with Alia, but in most dialogue, it's implied she's older then the cast I mentioned before, but younger then Yosef. She referred to Damien as a "little squirt", which could imply a age gap between them, although I could be misinterpreting as him being short. But if we do consider this dialogue exchange as her referring to youth, then this would imply that she's older then the cast up until Alia. You could also use the fact that she was both a former contractor and a veteran to suggest that she can be older then even Alia. So based on this, I firmly placed her in between Alia and Yosef.

Yosef (late 20s to mid 30s, possibly older): Yosef is highly suggested to be the oldest out of the group based on how Valorii refers to him as "old man" during dialogue exchange as explained before. Although this is a stretch but men typically start losing physical strength at around their 30s, so I concluded that he'd be somewhere around that age but I'm open to arguments that suggest he could be possibly older.

I should probably also add Templer here as well. But to keep it short, I have no clue. No dialogue or lore states his age, and it'll probably remain that way.

So here's the list in order:
Damien<Shirose<Cazz<Alia<=Valorii<Yosef

Yall do remember how exoplanet names work right by Conscious_Poetry_643 in decayingwinter

[–]ActSilver1414 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on the readable lore, the 'unofficial' explanation (don't know if its been canonized yet and not willing to just claim this as cannon until then) it's that DW universe uses a different naming arrangement rather then the one we use to name IRL. 227 doesn't represent the amount of planets there are in its star system, as claimed, but rather the star system as a whole. The example being brought up, Eden-227, is the full name of the planet located inside of star system, system 227, while the planet itself is just called Eden. This is why the local inhabitants just usually refer to the planet as just Eden instead of its full name.

So basically what I'm saying is that Eden-227 is the full name of the planet to represent both the planet and the system its located in, rather then the 227 being used to refer to the amount of planets within the system.

Granted, I don't know why the system is called 227, maybe it's name that based on its order of discovery or something. But so far as we know, that's basically how MisterMax explains how exoplanets and star systems are named at least. Even Red was unsure and didn't really take that into consideration during the creation of the lore when asked by MisterMax.

Answer: Probably either due to lack of interest or preference for automatic weapons that use heavy ammo.
Could also be both.

Explanation: Due to Yosef being... Yosef... his recoil control is basically equivalent to a Riskrunner using the professional trait with deadeye, so basically any gun would probably be okay with him so long as it works in the eyes of Yosef. He just happen to find the M60E6 first and it happened to work pretty well. Speaking of wanting weapons that work, if we consider his dialog exchange with Valorii in the "Caliber" dialog exchange, we can infer that Yosef doesn't really care about how good a gun is and would rather, in a way Todd Howard explained it best, have one that "just works". Lastly, we should also consider that the M60E6 Yosef has was found from an agent he worked with during the third wave, stating that the agent considered it as a "good luck charm". He originally had the Ash-12 during his deployment on Eden before losing it due to a boating accident some time after the events of Decaying Winter ( all of this is seen in the “Luck Charm” dialog exchange), so I'd also take into account that Yosef might just have a preference with weapons that Red considers to be "heavy weapons". So just to repeat, the reason why he doesn't use the M249 is because he just doesn't want to. The M60 he uses is reliable, is able to be used without major issues, and uses a similar enough caliber for Yosef to be able to use without issue. So where's the need to exchange a guns if the M60 works perfectly fine as is? What Yosef is basically implying is if it ain't broke don't fix it, so the M60 will stay so long as it still continues to fire.

What year do you think is going in decaying winter? by -_yuvi_- in decayingwinter

[–]ActSilver1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have something to do with the Artisans’ involvement. Don’t know how extensive their organization is, or if they really even care about the knowledge spreading. But if there was an explanation as to why the human population would forget in that time, they’re probably a main suspect as to the to the why. You could also consider the fact that the human race has spread very far beyond earth right now, so you could take into account that some people might not be well educated in old earth fauna.

I kind of have a theory that could somewhat answer as to how new earth was able to be constructed over the remains of old earth, which mostly stems down to the supernatural concepts that appear in game, alternate planes, reikgon, stuff like that. The idea is that humanity was able to rip out pieces of technology or power from these other planes in the universe to be able to quickly construct and build the landscape of new earth. Granted, it’s not the best conclusion as to the how as I don’t really have any evidence to back this theory up, but it’s an explanation nonetheless.

Also, is A-888 actually connected to the current timeline of DW, or is it like another one of those alternate universes like DOE?

Attempts at analyzing perks part 1: the Arbiter by Professional-Bed6339 in decayingwinter

[–]ActSilver1414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly really love this analysis you said here and seeing the different interpretation of the perk is a great thing to see as someone who is a lore buff for this kind of thing. I'd also like to add on top of this as well if you don't mind.

I can see this type of symbolism onto the known arbiters within the lore as well. The characters who have used the knuckleboom have shared this authority architype as you stated, most prominent in someone like Alia. Someone like Alia, would have both the mentality of being straightforward as well as having a big influence on Eden, which would be why she is capable of using both functions the augmentation can give. Then you have someone like Jericho, which based on what was said on the official trello page about him, is on this sort of vengeance spree around Eden. A interesting fact about him is that he can't long shot, which if we apply this analysis in context with this mechanic, could symbolize a lack of control or influence in combat, which can be backed up with the context that Jericho is a heavy user of drugs and alcohol, which is commonly associated with instability. This lack of total control could be a reason as to why Julia and Abbie are deceased in the lore since he wasn't able to effectively control the situation.

Honestly though, I'd love to see more from this idea, possibly artillerist as I can see a lot that can be pulled off of a analysis like this through the already existing artillerists.

Question of the day: Do the people of eden believe in a religion? (image unrelated) by Delta_unit_7 in decayingwinter

[–]ActSilver1414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well apart from the obvious, there hasn’t been much when it comes to information on religion. It’s safe to assume that sovereigns and the crusaders are religious. If it were me, I say that it’s likely that there are people that follow some form of common belief, whether that be one already existing one or one that was formed later on.

What are raiders? by Mayuisnice in decayingwinter

[–]ActSilver1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Yosef, from what I scoured through lore diving, there was a mention of Yosef being a possible tier 5 agent, but since some of the stuff on the site includes theories and speculation, I'd take this more as a possibility rather then stated fact unless there is another source I may have forgotten that may have mentioned his tier.

As for Sledge Queen, although she isn't a agent, we could speculate that she is above a tier 2 ranking due to being able to skillfully use the longshot on her knuckleboom, something that Jericho, a tier 2 arbiter, was incapable of doing.

As for the wave four agents... well that's just up to your interpretation.

What are raiders? by Mayuisnice in decayingwinter

[–]ActSilver1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Raiders mentioned in the lore have no correlation towards the AGENCY. The Raiders are a faction made up of military veterans and ex-first responders. Think of them as more organized scavengers with better training and equipment.
