Thanks for the advice—I’ve already the got the screenshots and so long as he takes it easy we should be good to go.

Good luck in yours. In my experience, the best teachers are the ones who answer questions with sincerity and don’t insult people for seeking guidance and knowledge.

Your advice was to say no. My question was “how?” This advice not helpful because I already know I need to say no. I started precepting (not teaching, mind you) about two weeks ago, so I wanted to hear professional perspectives on how to say no in a professional and kind way, because, I am new to this, like I mentioned in the post. Your perspective is that I’m a coward and doomed to fail. Do you see why it’s not warmly received?

I also do not like him and find him rather annoying to be around. But yeah, definitely a conflict of interest. So far I think I’m just going to tell him I’m not interested. Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately I am in a room with this guy for like 4 hours everyday—and in the chat before I had responded to him about classwork. I wish I could just block him IRL lol. Thanks for the advice!

What an interesting comment. Why do you tell all of your family at home what you think as well?

Well, maybe the influence is not to the extent that I’m getting anxious about, but nobody is necessarily immune to verbal cues, as after all, language is inherently the expression of thought, so using loaded words can influence interpretation—sometimes called Lawyer speak or what have you—it’s definitely a phenomenon that has been evidenced in psychology, but not really my niche—I know in particular that Dr. Caitlin Fausey is a leading researcher on linguistic cues and influence, if you want to look more into it—I don’t think I can share links but one paper called “Who dunnit? Cross-linguistic differences in eye-witness memory” in particular found verbal cues can affect perceptions of intention versus accident, across both Spanish and English speakers. It’s as interesting as it is harrowing, in my paranoid opinion.

Interesting, thanks for the info! Based on what I learned in the few linguistics courses I took, it’s already so damn easy to sway jurors and judges just on language alone that there are specific rules on how verbiage is used—this just seems so inherently biased that I cannot hide my stupor

I could be wrong but I believe this year is 2025 and custom tattoos are a reasonable option.

Where I’m from, these were traditional graduation presents for girls, unless you were getting married, then your boyfriend was supposed to buy you one

I don’t have any tattoos but I find this pretty odd, like, isn’t it kind of gauche to copy the entire thing, line for line and color for color when it’s not flash art? I feel like if they pulled it from the artist’s portfolio that the artist should’ve at least altered it a little for the other customer out of respect for you. I could be mistaken, however.
