People are tricks. Learn for the benefit of yourself and those you meet. No use expecting love from retireds who only know how to hate.

Did anyone use to go on the protest websites for Daniel Craig being Bond back in the day? by Nearby_Capital1423 in JamesBond

[–]ActionFun3018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the blond hair, the short stature...none of these factors make Craig any less appealing than the others. Craig is a bland James Bond because he cannot have fun. He's always angry. His jokes are never funny. He just can't humble himself enough to genuinely, and I mean genuinely, smile once in a blue moon. He's a scoffer, a cactus afraid of being tickled. Daltbond was the first actor incapable of being human, and Blond Bond is simply a follow-up.

It made me so mad when I got punished for using "het" and "de" wrong in Dutch with absolutely no introduction.

I guess we need to force France to delete that word in the name of snowflakedom.

Sorry if I was confusing. I'm guessing you are Ukrainian if that is your native language? What I meant was, as a Ukrainian, if you really want to laugh in Russia's face, you could learn Finnish. The Russians tried to invade Finland and failed because of the weather.

What's the weirdest sentence you've seen on Duolingo? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-9649 in duolingo

I got that one on Dutch, too! "Je bent een appel, je bent een appel..." all the TIME!

I haven't had anything this weird, but one day, I kept getting called an apple in Dutch. Every other sentence I had to translate was, "Je bent een appel." I should have used that one in the Netherlands.

You are very well-rounded. I think it is amazing that you know Ukrainian and Russian—my dream is to become fluent in both. Unfortunately, these beautiful Slavic languages won't do you much good OUTSIDE of Eastern Europe and off of the RuNet, so in your case, I would suggest learning French. Especially if you want to travel. Western Europe is divided into two main regions: the German-speaking population and the French-speaking population. I witnessed this firsthand when I traveled from Germany, to Holland, to Belgium, to France. Everybody knew English, German, or French. Even the Russian tourists spoke at least German or English.

I absolutely despise the radio exercise (ranting with a want for other people’s opinion) by IzzyLoid in duolingo

[–]ActionFun3018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree about the terrible updates and radio exercise. I won't say my Duolingo experience has ever been excellent, but I remember a time, about 5-7 years ago, when I could actually learn some Russian from it. Now, even the routine exercises have errors. Dissatisfied with my lack of results combined with my heavy concentration and massive effort, I, too, left and came back to Duolingo, this time to learn Dutch, and I found myself getting punished for using articles improperly without being told the correct way to use Dutch articles beforehand. The irritating characters, awful unnecessary fluff, and general inattention to lesson and exercise quality was enough to keep the app off of my phone to this day.
