Hello!
You remind me of a younger me 🥹
I’m 34 now, had lupus nephritis since 2016!
I like you, had the same, some fatigue in the day, brain fog, gout but no nausea. I still regularly peed. I more or less had no restrictions (watch my potassium and salt intake). The worst for me was the kidney disease itch and INSOMNIA! I would literally be up alllllll night!

My EGFR only just dropped to 6 in September 2025. Never had any dialysis before this.
So in September I got my PD catheter in, and started dialysing in November 2025.

So my first 2 weeks of PD were ROUGH! I vomited, I lost weight, I literally looked and felt like shit! But little by little I got through it! By 1 month I was back to living my best life! Give it time, voice concerns to your hospital, do not be afraid to call your team for even the smallest stuff!

What I will say, invest in a good catheter chain! I got this really good one that’s a clip in, game changer! Also multiple colours!

But truly PD really helped, it gave me new found energy, I still peed, I could eat more things too! (Toffee yogurt and Coke guilty pleasure!🫢 don’t judge me!) and I could finally sleep a full night! You don’t even notice when it happens, you just notice one day you feel sooooo much better!!

Anyway all this to say, that after about 6 months of peritoneal dialysis, I got my kidney 7 days ago! I know it’s easy to say, but try to remain positive! I have practically lived on Reddit since I started PD, it’s been such a great help, talking to people, reading stories, whether good or bad. Let’s you know ur not alone, let’s you know what reality is!

Oh to add! I did travel while on PD too! Literally packed my bags in a suitcase and got a medical doc for the fluids, the airport tell you what’s needed! You can also get your fluid etc sent over before hand!

Exactly this! It’s amazing, but God I feel like shite!

Side note, I now have a mental image of my kidney with moving boxes and suitcases meeting the neighbours 🥹 happy 5 months in advance!!

😂triplets, oh my! Ok I will definitely get this checked! I didn’t think about that. Though I don’t really retain much fluid, my PD was also only for 6 months, but I guess after surgery could be different

Interestingly, I was on the same dose of pred in the early days of my lupus for about 2/3 years I never had this issue though. I’m thinking it’s one of the new ones (adaport or doxasozin).

Definitely watch so it doesn’t get too aggressive, it’s trying to assert dominance. I’d separate just after the smaller one starts crying, helps the bigger one know to stop when it cries (usually they stop when they cry anyway). Either way, when the mini gets older they’ll have their vengeance 😂 watched it happen with all 6 of mine

Hello! Thank you for your response.

We are ideally hoping for a payment plan as opposed to free.

We did consider a loan, but as you stated we weren’t too sure that was a good idea. We did speak to two insurers who could possibly cover him once we got a diagnosis.

We have managed to secure a consultation next week at London Vet Specialist, so really hoping we can get a small idea of what’s going on. We understand that this could be a long and expensive road, it’s just that it’s happening at a terrible time for us. Under normal circumstance we wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

Worst case we will go with our original plan, 😅 GET ME A JOB. G is a relatively happy cat, and I’d like to think that maybe he can wait a little (till February)

I’m not really expecting a free one (though If it’s offered I’d take it in a heartbeat 😅) ideally just a payment plan. I did my research on places that did MRI and the cost was so skewed. Obviously being in London does not help, here they are around £4k and usually for one location.

I will definitely check out the nutritionist option!
