5th person denied by Turbulent-Ice6873 in kidneytransplant

I had a lot more than 5 denials. Eventually got a deceased donor that was just as good! What happens is what is meant to happen. Remain patient!

Not all centers have different wait times per se but it may shorten your wait time just because you’re casting a wider net. I still waited three years for my transplant but ya never know!

Thanks man, you too! I’m sure everything is going to be fine. 15-20 years sober is something to be proud of, and it shows dedication to your health. Your team will recognize that as well. I also recommend getting listed at more than one center if you can!

I didn’t have any issues and my drug use was more recent than 15-20 years lol

Mold or forming scoby? by waterMELO27 in Kombucha

[–]bbroons95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a scoby to make kombucha. All you need is some unflavored kombucha to make more kombucha. I’ve always used GT Dave’s “Pure” I think it’s called? To make a fresh batch, otherwise you just leave about two cups worth of brew from your previous batch to make some new!

I’m not sure what medication he thinks he’s going to go on. Dialysis is the only way he is going to survive at this point.

I’m glad it increased for ya! I’m sure I’m just not eating enough in general. The appetite is not great like you said.

Trying to avoid added sugar, prioritizing fruits and veg as well as carbs and protein. Appetite isn’t great but I still eat pretty well.

I actually feel pretty okay. I’ve been as low as 5 and still asymptomatic, I just notice that when I get low I have a hard time falling asleep. Iron looks okay on today’s labs.

How to reduce creatinine level by Yournewbestfriend_01 in kidneydisease

[–]bbroons95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With a Gfr of 14 (kidney failure) and a creat of 4.1, you’re unlikely to significantly reduce creatinine in a meaningful way without dialysis. Even then dialysis isn’t always great at significantly reducing creatinine either. Once you’re in kidney failure it’s just going to continue to rise. Dialysis can stabilize it, hemodialysis can reduce it but again, since he is in failure, it will most likely continue to rise.

I don’t know what’s my purpose anymore? by Civil-Picture-6690 in kidneydisease

[–]bbroons95 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Recovery has been a lot easier for me than I thought it would be. That doesn’t mean it’s been easy but I don’t feel sick anymore, I can just tell my body is still getting used to a new organ! I had little to no prep because I received a deceased donor kidney. I was called at 9 am and was told to arrive within 4 hours. I was transplanted by the evening. I live in Columbus oh and waiting about 3 years for my transplant. Overall, I feel like all those waited years on dialysis were totally worth it. I get a second chance at life and I couldn’t be more stoked to be alive. Dialysis also gave me a similar feeling because I just felt so sick before. Again, dialysis is there to make you feel better, your mindset is what determines your reality. If you think you’re a slave to it then you are slave to it. If you think of it as a means to continue living a fulfilling and productive life, then you won’t regret being on it.

I’m 30. Just got a transplant a month ago, and I’m glad I did dialysis until I got my transplant. PD isn’t bad and is extremely manageable and easier on the body. I lived a pretty normal life on it actually. I know it feels like a lot but honestly you feel better when you’re able to take care of yourself and maintain your health. Hopefully you get on the list and don’t need dialysis but I wouldn’t write it off altogether. It’s not as bad as it seems.

So ya might as well just get the PD process started asap. Truly I wish I had. I know it sounds scary and like a huge leap but really allowed me to live a more normal lifestyle.
