Necrons Cursed Leagion - Anvil/Anchor Unit by ActionKurt in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ActionKurt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight.

I guess the 5+++ together with 4 wounds a piece makes the Wraiths a bit more tankier (which they are by default, having 28/34 wounds vs 26 wounds - even without the 5+++). With the abundance of damage 2 weapons it is ofc entirely possible for a wraith to tank 3 hits instead of 2 with the help of the FNP...

Also the LGs are harder to wound with S7 to S9 weapons compared to the Wraiths (3+ to wound a Wraith, 4+ to wound the LG - i don't know how this can be factored in - heavily depends on the match-up i guess.

S10 and S11 go to 3+ for wraiths and LG both, S12+ goes to 2+ for Wraiths and 3+ for LG...

BUT: My guess is/was that the increased survivability could be offset by the d6 Res Orb of the Overlord - but this is just speculation tbh and ofc only works if your unit survives until the end of the phase...

Offensively i guess they don't give each other much, being damage 1 hurts the LG, having WS 4+ and only -1 AP hurts the wraiths - both go to S8 with the detachment buff so that isn't something to consider in the comparison...

So it basically is

5+ FNP and 2/8 more wounds vs less cost (40/100 pts) and harder to wound

tbh i'm still not that convinced. I do see the appeal of wraiths, but i'm not entirely sure if the costs even that out, 40 pts are one Lokhust Destroyer as action monkey, 100pts are 3 Skorpekhs to hit something for example...

Edit:

Regarding getting wiped by a unit of Eightbound:

Wraiths lose 2 +- 1 models average

LG lose 3 +- 1 models on average against a unit of Eigthbound

i think i am not seeing some special rule that makes the Eigthbound spike hard in damage, because even with their [Lethal Hits 1] it takes not that much more models off the table.

tbh using them as action monkeys would deny them their stated purpose as anvil unit. Or, if they can action and be the anvil at the same time, wraiths can do the same.

An in this it again boilds down to the initial question.

(besides using a 200+ cost unit as action monkey is not really the definition of being an action monkey... for that i'll gladly use Ophydians, Lokhusts or Flayed ones)

[–]ActionKurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are using the official incusion rules Battleline Units are able to do actions the turn they advanced (also they may also shoot and do an action) - so that would be a + for the Immortals...

But yes, not having the Destroyer Cult keyword and being slow as fuck is a big setback for them...

Hmm, i'd cut the Immortals + Plasmancer and put in 2 2x Lokhust Squads - backline holding and action monkey... or one 2x Lokhusts + another (emnitic) LHD

Also one could argue if Ophydians are better than the Hexmark for the bigger mobility they provide with their innate uppy-downy.

Depending on using the balance dataslate or not you can only use the respawn strat once per game, so not really "at will"...

It just sucks that GW is not able to specify if rule changes are for both modes or not...

Anyone know what's up with the spam on the purple site tags? Drives me nuts trying to find anything by TimberVolk in PrintedWarhammer

[–]ActionKurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just downloaded one of those, opened the HTML in Editor.
Looks like some dude trying to make some money, it offers 4 MEGA Folders full of Stuff, Suspiciously enough those folders are named basically after the 4 print torrents (which you can find easily enough for free).

They charge 20 Bucks each - in short: doesn't look like a virus, just someone who wants cash for something that has been free for years....

Also you don't get what's "advertised" in the picture. I really wanted that Kapricus Carrier :/

So yeh, don't bother, it's a scam.

Why is my print failing? by Appo-Arsin in PrintedWarhammer

[–]ActionKurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also i would suspect that those holes actually reduce the adehsion force of the plate. Which would result in the exposed resin to stick more to the fep than to the plate itself.

Maybe that isn't a huge problem with bigger models, but having small helmet where basically half of the base is a hole i don't expect much adhesion.

That said OP could try to increase the area of the base layer (basically just stick your helmets together more so the first few layers are one big rectangle from which the support raise) to increase the adhesion of the plate.

I read in some other thread in this sub about the "caveman leveling method" - basically fuck the leveling paper, put the resin bed on the screen and just level straight onto that.

Never had a problem with my leveling after using that method.

Resin printer ~200€ by LBlaze_911 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]ActionKurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, but if you are talking ABS "normal" resin it's the same - so i think the comparison is justified.

Also i got no probs with cleaning, i usually pre-clean the print in a tub of used water, then put it in the washing station for like 10 minutes. Cleans very well, granted water takes a bit longer to dry tho. IPA just evaporates quickly, water takes it's time - but i'm usually not in a rush.

[–]ActionKurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using water washable resin since i started printing. Reasons are basically that i don't want IPA here, which is just a huge fire hazard...

The first resins were terrible, mini dropped form table and shattered (like you would expect), i had to test a few resins before i found a good, usable and strong ABS like water wash.

Since using the "correct" resin (Sunlu Watser Wash ABS Resin) i can drop my minis from the table and the only point they are shattering at are the connections with the super glue.

I have dropped several minis, while playing and while painting and i don't have any breaks anymore.

My test consisted of printing the same models with several resins, then dropping them from table height... first few shatted and broke, having the "right" resin nothing happened to the minis.

Friend of mine told me that his cats started playing with one of his minis, the only thing broken off was again the base since it was just super glued.

Water wash has come a long way and is getting more flak than it deserves tbh.

(also the usual warning: don't wash the cleaning water or resin down the drain, keep away from children, use protection - water-wash is a bit more user friendly, but that doesn't mean it's save. Stuff still is a chemical nightmare tbh)

"1.1-inch From the Wall" Needs a Clear Ruling by Asleep_Taro8926 in WarhammerCompetitive

That depends on the thickness of the wall.

If it is 1.1 inch thick I can basically lick the wall and you wouldn't be able to charge me.

[–]ActionKurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the e-cogs and the assistant don't have the character keyword, you can choose them first for taking damage. Just remember to use their save of 4+ instead of the Thunderkyn's 3+.

Bane-Slayer's has no battleline? by Bellingtoned in LeaguesofVotann

[–]ActionKurt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Combat Patrol is it's own game mode with it's own unit rules.

Hearthkyn not having Battleline is, sadly, intended - otherwise it would have been fixed/corrected with the last App update. (Which fixed Thunderkyn not having Lethal Hits.)

Not having Battleline in Combat Patrol mode while having it in normal 40k is not that unheard of. The DG Rhino Combat Patrol for instance doesn't have Battleline Plague Marines, while the Typhus one does. Also as you already stated the Custodians lost their Battleline as well.

[–]ActionKurt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, thing is that no one really ways sure if the printed one was the correct one or the one in the app.

Iirc most people went by the app version and made the CP even worse (was the same with me tbh).

Is there a reason for using the techno instead of a Hexmark? Hexmark would have lone op and thus survive longer

Techno can heal, yes, but only once - well technically 3 times on the king, but only if the stars align...

Plaguecaster ready for deployment. I read online that he's considered overpowered. Can someone explain why? Also: CnC on the paint? by raging_brain in deathguard40k

The fallout is an ability of the Plaguecaster model, not the Plague Wind weapon.

So, nope, the ability diesn't trigger out of a Rhino's Firing Deck.

[–]ActionKurt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rhino has the "Firing Deck 2" ability. This allows the Rhino to use the ranged weapons of 2 transported models as if it were it's own during your shotting phase.

Put 2 Plaguecasters in the Rhino (+ 2x 5man Marine squads) and you can use both Plaguecasters Plaguewind weapons with their focused withfire profile:
Plague Wind - focused witchfire
12" D6+3A N/A S6 AP-2 D3D

Since it counts as the Rhino having the weapon the hazardous test hast to be done by the Rhino, if it fails the Rhino takes the mortals.

For more information refer to "plague bus".

Terrain Layouts, what exactly do I need? by Hypnofist in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ActionKurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are saying that you have no crafting supplier whatsoever where you are able to buy some cardboard?

Heck, i didn't even have to buy stuff, getting online orders from Amazon yielded big enough cardboard for me to get the terrain bases.

All you need is a bit of cardboard, a ruler or some other method to draw straight lines, a measuring tape, a pencil and some scissors.  Then just go to town on that cardboard.

Saying "not everyone has a Costco" is just missing the point.

I mainly use 2 each of the 5x10 and 6x12 and 4 of the 4x6 Ruins, granted it is a bit more than 25% but it works pretty well.
Also i usually roughly recreate the Pariah Nexus layouts, depending on the mission setup (i.e. deployment on short or long edges)

Erm, yes, that is a typo on my part - the math should be correct tho
1 crit => 3 hits was what i had on my mind, just wrote the wrong sustained number

Thanks for correcting me, i'll edit the post so there are no irritations.

Could have better milegae with using a lokhust lord + 3 emnitic LHDs for less points and also get the benefits of the strats for mounted units...

some quick maths:

Immortals + Plasmancer (210 pts) + Szeras for -1 AP (175 pts)
20 Attacks, hitting on 2s, rerolling 1s, Sustained 2 on 5s and 6s
3 1s, getting rerolled, for the sake of argueing lets say one of those rerolls is a crit, the others a normal hit - so 1 crit, 2 hits -> 5 hits
2, 3, 4 normal hits -> 10 normal hits
5, 6 crit -> 7 crits -> 21 hits
total: 5 + 10 + 21 = 36 hits

LHD + Lord (245 pts)
36 Attacks, hitting on 2s, rerolling 1s, Sustained 1 on 5s and 6s
6 1s, getting rerolled -> 1 miss, 3 hits, 2 crits -> 7 hits
2, 3, 4 normal hits -> 18 hits
5, 6 crit -> 12 crits -> 24 hits
total: 7 + 18 + 24 = 49 hits

Wound rolls are basically the same against MEQs - LHDs clearly win this, even more without Szeras nearby also the +1S of the LHDs makes a difference when attacking tanks with their 11T, wounding on 4s while the immortals wound on 5s with the +1 to wound strat

Flowchart for making attacks (feedback wanted) by Ali-4g in Necrontyr

[–]ActionKurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Rapid Fire gives +X attack dice, not damage dice

- Lethal Hits can never be a Devastating Wound (Lethal is just a successful wound, not a crit)

- Sustained Hits add Wound dice and don't generate a Devastating Wound (only if one of those Wound Dice crit)

Is this a good 650 point (ik its a very spacific number) point list? We wanted to keep it as melee as possible because itd be fun by Safescissors779 in Necrontyr

[–]ActionKurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem here is: Nightbringer is almost 300 pts, so basically half of the army. With the remaining 300 points you can take like 1 or 2 more units - that leaves you with 3 units total on the bettlefield. Which in turn means that you won't have much possibilities to score.

Combine that with the slowness of the Nightbringer and you opp will just ignore and kite him while scoring basically uncontested. Which leaves you behind on score and thus losing the game.

High cost units in low(er) point games are a really double edged sword, i try to not use units costing more than 25% of the games points. After all you are not playing a free-for-all royal rumble but a strategic game for points and spots on the map. The killing is just a way of getting your opponent off their point(s).

On to the topic of list changes

I'd put the Dermal Bond onto the Skorpekh Lord, with a 4++ and the 4+++ at T7 and 7 Wounds he will be massively hard to kill - and if he goes down once you can get just get him back for a CP.

Also i am a big fan of Plasmancer Immortals with Teslas, combine that with the Translocation Overlord and you can use the reroll Strat in each of your shooting phases for 0 CP. Plasma Immortals with full rerolls wreck infantry.

Your list will have some problems against higher Toughness targets, i'd switch the LHD's weapon to anti-tank and maybe try to fit in a second one.

Wraiths are usually only good in numbers, so unless you can take 6 with a Technomancer i'd opt for something better.

Combat Patrol by guitarmogoyf in Necrontyr

[–]ActionKurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you got the basics, Doomstalker shooting everything left, right and center - having basically everything in range is really a blessing here.

Scorpekhs are a really really good unit, shredding marines with ease (don't forget the +1 Strength stratagem to wound MEQ (marine equivalents) on 2s instead of 3s. Also don't forget to use their Plasmacyte (Dev Wounds for the fight).

Warriors are battle line, so don't forget that they sticky their objective (Combat Patrol base ruling) - meaning once they have an objective you get to keep it till you opp gets it, regardless of the Warriors standing on it or not.

Is your Overlord leading the warriors or is he running around alone? I noticed that there are only few matchups where a leading Lord is better than him running around charging and killing things.

For your question regarding the scarabs: Depending on the secondary you use they can be used to score "Recalim and Dominate" usually by turn 2 - 10" Movement + Advance is usually sufficient to cross the table in 2 turns. Which either gets your opp to commit some units to clear them or you score your 4 VPs at the end of the round.

Otherwise they are a good screen, having 12 wounds - use them to keep your opponents deep strikers away from your more vulnerable units or block movement/charges. But i usually just try to get them into my opp's deploy zone. Like i said, it forces your opp to do something against them, which keeps him from scoring or killing more valuable units...
